This is why I like That Pedal Show, I love this idea and hope you run with it more. One of the things I really hate about the TH-cam gear community is that much of it is "cult of the new". Many of the products that are on shelves have stood the test of time, but there's no recent coverage for it. Some of the most accessible pedals/amps available to the average person only has 480p videos from 10+ years ago. Gear that is available but either the company hasn't paid for a marketing push or is only interested in pushing tomorrow's pedal releases.

Really good points here. If it ain't broke, don't fix it or more accurately, don't replace it because you feel you have to.

@@ewetooit’s all driven by corporate Dollars but it is fun trying these pedals and realising that they sound like or reminds you of why not look for the originals and say this is what they are all chasing. Keep playing cause that’s the important thing pedals are just noise 😂

That’s because TH-camrs are hype merchants and salespersons for hire. Marketing is the dark side of psychology.

DC-2w is just...phenomenal. I understand why no knobs or tweakable controls were given. Sounds they engineered into it are absolutely exquisite.

For whatever reason I was never aware of the Volante. I had so many other delay pedals. Then I bought a Volante and am totally blown away. You can do so much with it. But it’s also very easy and intuitive to use. There are no menus like the Timeline. I sold 3 delay pedals and am just keeping this one. It sounds fantastic in stereo too.

The fact that I don't think I have ever heard Dan sweep pick before means that he does it exactly as frequently as one should sweep pick.

A sorely needed and public reminder to everyone that old does not automatically mean garbage, especilly in pedal world. And that the newest, trending viral thing is not necessarily the "best". Then again I guess it can be easy to kinda forget about older gems when you got more pedals on the walls than beers in the joint. XD Superlative as ever leg-ends.

Volante was a revelation, took me three years to really feel I could get the most out of it. For example, in SOS mode you can reverse the playhead, add 1 repeat and have a brilliant tape reverse sound. I've been making layered loops including using an original Roland TB-303 (heads know), which degrade using the wear and low cut knobs. You can then lock the loop at the desired point and play over it. The presets mean I can also revert to a nice unobtrusive delay instantly.

I've had the Volante for over a year now and still haven't scratched the surface of what all it can do. I'm so happy with the 3 presets ( favorites ) I made in the beginning that I really don't need to dig any deeper. Having 5 more preset slots I should experiment with it and find something new to love.

I have an idea for a show format related to this. The hindsight pedal fight! Both of you get to pick 3-4 pedals that you haven't played for years that you remember loving. You can't plug them in, all you have to go off is how good you remember them being back then. Put the boards together and get judged on how great they still are!

  • @ramblinpreachers

Sean at Lovepedal always seems to make his pedals sound so wide and open ! I’ve use the Lovepedal Amp11 for about 7 years now and it’s hands down my favourite OD of all time and has kept the duellist, King Of Tone, GTown Holygrail and Klons all off my board

This was the first interview I’ve ever seen with you. I have to say that I feel like I saw parts of you that I didn’t really see or understand in the TPS videos. Nice show gents. Some great sounds and playing. I like how each of you seem to change you’re playing by the sounds the pedals give you. Juju is a MkIII Tone Bender, very different to a MkI or MkII. Seems to be closest to an early Roto style like Page used, thick and sticky. It is two germaniums in a darlington pair smashing another germanium with a tone control on the end. One of Steve’s better pedals I reckon

This is the series I've been waiting for. You guys do such fantastic denoes (my favorite demoes certainly) but so much passes through, I think revisits are essential, especially on pedals like Volante which I'm always surprised doesn't get more play. Similarly curious what you all could coax out of Nightsky which was a bit over-shadowed (appropriately) by CXM 1978 originally. I think there is a lot more in it beside fake-synth and haven't seen much online doing deep dives on it's more normal application. Please keep these coming!

Camera shows a pedal board and I am like yey! G3, check, Volante, check, Dimension C, check! Well my main testing pedal board is that plus Gladio DC, Ceriatone Centura, Supro Tremolo, Nightsky, EP Booster and EHX C9. TBH EP Booster is currently just hanging loose as well as C9. Lots of other things form ex big/main pedal board should come to new pedal board but no time and no money for that right now. Money goes into building stuff.

Been a long time since we've heard The Lazy J, Mallard, V140, Hiwatt, Princeton. Lonestar, Class 5, Cali Tweed, Bassbreaker, whatever that brown panel amp is in the back of shot. May be a few epiphany moments like the H&K Puretone.

Great to see the Royal Overdrive again. I’ve watched your episode “Are you Dumble?” many times over the years, and eventually tracked down a RO of my own. I run a Fujigen Jazzmaster with Seymour Duncan Antiquity 1s into a Deluxe Reverb w/Cannabis Rex speaker - really bright pickups into a somewhat tamed Deluxe Reverb. The mids of the RO make for a wicked lead tone, at least in my humble opinion.

The Strymon Volante is amazing, but I’m not up to speed enough to really use it? I am going to try delay stacking a couple of pedals for a bit. Dimension DC-2w is spot on!
It’s always cool to return to gear that you forgot you owned? Every time I decide to start moving pedals out the door, I start thinking about getting a bigger board!

In the case of royal overdrive and humbucker, there are a massive difference when you use 50s style wiring, because this configuration is more “trebly” when you turn down the volume, maybe you need to adjust the tone control too (would be a good topic for a new episode, like treble bleed in fenders too)
