      Contour Plus One

    • @stargator4945
      @stargator4945 ปีที่แล้ว

      Contour plus One or Accuchek Guide have better than standard deviations but all meters have a difference even lab values have differences only smaller ones. And they can be higher or lower so the corridor is about 10% in the standard around the 100 value and 15% around the 160 value. Some meters have a smaller corridor. Therefore, they use some compensation for temperature and other values that can influence the blood sugar value.

    I'm a guitarist too and wanted to mention that instead of drawing blood from the fingertip, I get it from the side of the finger on the tip. No problem with playing doing that.

    Even a pack of same test strips can range 10-15% difference, as they're rated not to be perfect. So now mix other meters, that 15% can turn to 30% difference in reading.

  • @stargator4945
    @stargator4945 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Those meters are made to a standard allowing +/- 10% on normal levels and +/-15% on high levels. So they are all correct by this standard. We should not expect lab accuracy from a sensor that costs less than a dollar. If we always use the same sensors/strips glucometers we should adapt to the values an be aware that a new set of sensors/strips can be differently calibrated. And yes some of the strips even are faulty then a second measurement is needed.

    Nice video, I use Libre and Blucon and love them to control my blood glucose values. The alarms are nice and are loud enough to wake me up. You can adjust your BG ranges to whatever you want. The best part of blucon is I can calibrate it for higher accuracy!

    I was prediabetic, and I decided to test my BG, mainly to monitor for diet needs and contraindications and activity required to prevent future scares. Mi caretouch is different from one hand to another. Sometimes the discrepancy is as high as 25 mg/dl. Most of the time is no more than 10. Well, I guess that is not too bad. I take the lowest depending on what I ate and exercise done.

    Hello. Thanks for this video.. I’m nervous because my dad and grandpop both have diabetes and they each use different meters. I keep checking my pops sugar with each machine and it’s a 35 point difference One is 84 and one is 119 when he got up .. after he ate it’s 135 and the other went up to 182. He is on insulin so I get nervous to give it to him at 135 for the sake of it dropping so low. Is there a way to test what machine is correct ? That you so much for your help

    • @T1DWanderer
      @T1DWanderer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know how to accurately test a machine. Also, one machine might be off by 20-30 points either way at different times. I think you just have to remember it might be off a bit, and dose carefully, but always watch it afterwards. You're already aware and concerned so I'd say you're doing the right thing already

    • @andhisband
      @andhisband 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could ask your pharmacist if there is a "calibrator solution" for your dad's meter. Basically, that's a solution with a calibrated amount of glucose per unit of solution: the value that the meter should return is known ahead of time. My meter (Accuchek) has that solution available, but I've never bought it. Maybe I should.
      [edit] Now that I think about it, take your meters to the drugstore. Maybe the pharmacist will test them for you *if he/she is not busy* and save you the cost of the solution. ("Not busy" usually means a half hour before they close. YMMV)

      well Im not an MD, so I am not reccommending anything. But rather help you do some research. There are patches you can place on your are and there is also a stomach patch, Aegis Diabetic Patch. I believe the stomach patch actually reads your blood levels and seccrets the right amount of insulin. It would be wise to keep up with new items on the market and get MD clarifications. Good luck. Also not the patient has to be willing

    Not close enough if all meters are out and if not than why except anything less than perfect after all is it not a meter , would you say close enough if you were checking the gas meter at the station and could that kill you if you over dose ,,
