THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Now I can consider, enjoying sewing; for the first time and help others! What a gift this program is. Kalispell, MT.
I LOVE that this video reintroduces the use of sewing machines and sewing to the new generation! I sewed all my young life - making a LOT of my own clothes and cried when fabric stores started closing for lack of popular interest.
My mom used to do the little-flower-thing wherever I had a hole in my clothes and I kinda hated it, because it drew attention to the fact that my clothes had holes. Now thirty years later I think it's really cool, and I'm quite the expert in fixing my clothes whenever necessary. Sewing against throw-away-culture! :) And thanks to my mom, who taught me how to fix things.
Thank you for reminding me of things I had forgotten! Don’t understand the negative comments others made. I have been sewing 50 of my 60 years and I did learn a few things!! The refreshers were great!
@@76marji Yes! I've kept my favorite fleece jacket for five years wondering how to fix that - now wish me luck trying to find the right plastic to do it with. (No black straws, and soon, no straws, so we must become inventive!)
@@MiddleEastMilli Thanks, Milli. The only stirrers I've ever seen here are white, but I never go to fast food places. (Out here in my part of the French countryside, we only have one McDo that just opened in the market town.) I'll just have to keep my eyes open. O^O Possibly a snippet of a thin plastic meat tray could work. Hmm.
The one where you made the neckline higher by taking up about 1/2” or 1cm on either side of the shoulder seam would only have raised the neckline by about 1/2” in front and 1/2” in back. You’d have to take up about 4” on either side of the shoulder seam for the neckline to be raised that much, and then the back of the neckline would disappear, the sleeve holes would be 8” smaller, and the whole shirt would be about 4” shorter. This is a good hack, but it works best on a sleeveless garment like a tank top, and you can only raise a neckline by an inch or so without ruining the lines of the garment.
Thanks for that info...I’m always dealing with low necklines and actually taking apart the top, altering it and resewing...this hack looked to easy to be a good one..you saved me from more frustration!
U r not alone. We all 16 mn are same. The purpose of watching such videos is to understand how idoit we are and others are talented. I ve got my lesson today😜😂
For all you perfect people.........why are you watching the video. This video will good for newbies to sewing. I have been sewing for 52 years but still loved these tips. For you perfect people that knows everything......get a life, and join the not so perfect.
The hack for zippers that won't stay zipped really works. I've been doing that for over 20 years. You don't even have to make a loop you can simply leave the cord long enough to wrap around the button several times, button the button, and go. Next restroom trip... Easy in and out! No fumbling with a loop, quickly unravels and go. EZ PZ.
Holy cow.. I'm shocked! Half of the time these hack vids suck but this one's got some pretty dang good ideas! Well done!! And thanks for the tips!😍👍👍👍👍
I have been sewing for more than 60 years but am still willing to learn. Some new and some old tips and tricks were demonstrated. What I did learn, which will prove useful, was a pretty way of shortening a jumper sleeve.
Thanks for all those fun looking hacks. I sew a few times per year and always frustrated by some of these little things - threading a needle trick was nice! If I still had kids def could have used some of those fixes!
This video was full of the most simple repair tips and I've been sewing since a young child. It always go to show that there is something new to learn everyday.
@@hecker5605 So sorry to hear that. I used to make clothes for a doll I had. I wasn't interested in dolls but fashion. I taught myself to knit from my mother's 'how to' brochures at only five yrs. Made my first jumper/sweater at 9yrs. I ended up teaching myself to design as well. We did have a class in school for both sexes that gave sewing lessons but that's in Australia. I do hope you get to sew soon as it's so convenient to be able to do your own repairs and the great feeling you get from making something you can wear. Keep persisting. I can't think why you're not allowed to sew if you can use the internet but just hang in there, you'll make it! 😉
Yes the yellow sweater is a long and short running stitch. Doing the loop that looks like a flower leaf is just giving you a grid to sew against. You are just sewing a pinch then a long stitch. . _ . _ . _ That is what you are really sewing. The loop makes sure you are doing it on the correct side, and fun. The red sweater, no it wouldnt be pulled up that much. So some of these are great for hand stitching and quick fixes. But trust me if you really want to alter, learn to sew on a machine. It’s not that hard. Get a mid century basic, used, all metal, less expensive to fix and usually only cleaning and timing. Ive been recycling thrift clothing for 50 years. Shorten sleeves. Switch out. Some of the methods on machine though do not do. Dragging material back and forth like that. Also be careful sewing into things like soap, tape. Many videos say tape to mark it, no, will seriously junk up your bobbin and needles. There are gears in there. Otherwise, this and all videos are inspiration. You are the designer.
it is whether you are interested... if you are surrounded by sewers when you are little, certainly you might; but if your call is in other things i.e music then it is not your thing to do...
I had a scoop neckline top that was great when I bought it, but after washing it a few times, it gaped when I bent over... embarrassing! So, instead of your hack (which is a bit dubious) I threaded a strong but light cord into the front neck seam. While wearing the top, draw the cord up slightly and anchor it at the shoulder seams. This hack works every time and doesn’t alter the shape of the garment.
Deb Minter You could have just told about your hack without the shady criticism. You dont add salt to the sugar in some recipes. It leaves a bad taste.
My girlfriend back in the 1950's, used to put elastic thread in the neck of her crew neck pullover sweaters as soon as she bought them, then when they were washed, they kept their shape.
Most of what was shown in quite good! Been sewing off and on for years and there's tricks and tips I never knew before. Those who downvoted might not do much sewing or else can afford to toss out something if there's a minor flaw or tear.
Wow! Thanks for sharing. You make doing these things so very simple.Yet,it is all because of your expertise and experience. A few of these tips would benefit me alot, especially the one with making the neck of the top, smaller.I never like low neckline. Thanks so much.

So I was just more informing about sewing in general. Some of the hand work here is very good and decorative. Agreed, I am a seamstress and I can confirm... it isn't the same shirt. If it is... they cut it up and resewed it having it shorter than previous to get that effect.
You don't need to place an elastic band on your machine to make sure you sew a straight line..the machine already has lines where the elastic was put.I've never seen a machine without the measuring lines there.

I believe it was done for a wider seam allowance than a typical sewing machine gage would give you.
It would help me as I cannot see the lines very well. They disappear into the color of the metal plate and I instantly get crooked lines.
