I actually loved the Live action Aladdin. But I TOTALLY agree with you. I give props for the actor in the live action for his own take, but I still prefer the original Jafar. He was much more memorable and iconic!

Jafar was always my favorite Disney villain as a kid. He's so elegantly evil, and he's not trying to get revenge for something wrong that happened to him in the past-no, he just wants power.
He’s is certainly trying to get revenge! He was legally to become Sultan, he worked hard, came from humble roots and some liar and thief stole it from him. Moreover, the Sultan was too incompetent to see it. Jafar is technically, justified.
This man is so sophisticated. I love the way he talks, and that has so many interesting things to say. I enjoyed his take on why some kids like villains, and also hearing him describe his interest in the aesthetic of the throne room and palace scenes. I remember being drawn to those scenes/settings in particular as a kid; I loved to stare at all of the details in them.
Jafar is my second favorite villain (Scar is the first), I've always loved intelligent villains. Jonathan adds so much to his character, he's an incredible actor. His voice is so hot.
Oh and one more thing: I can totally relate to what he says at 4:20-5:34! Villains are usually more complex, interesting and human than heroes. Especially the ones who are humorous as well.

From what i heard and or read, out of all of Gilbert Gottfried's past co-stars, Jonathan was one of the many that was heartbroken the most when he found out that Gilbert had passed away.
As a kid I wanted to be Jaffar, loved everything about that character. He's definitely my favorite Disney Villain. Jonathan Freeman did an amazing job voicing him.
He comes across as a modern elegant, refined and sophisticated aristocrat without any of the pretentiousness usually associated with such people. Seems like a very cool guy. 😊

I remember being upset that Jafar didn't return in the King of the Thieves. At least Genie mentions him. I later grew fond of Robin Williams's Genie performance, but Jafar is who made me watch Aladdin and the Return of Jafar over and over again.

I am 36. Jafar was the first character I've been impressed by and I immiedately admired him when I was 6. 30 years ago. I was the only kid of my village loving him. Everybody found me weird to love him. I was not in love but I had a huge admiration and affection for him and I still do today. I think Jonathan Freeman is definetely right when he says kids love vilains not because they are bad but because they are marginalised. When you are yourself rejected et marginalised, you can love vilains characters. It was my case. I definetely love Jafar until the very end. He's part of my childhood and life as well. I'm glad to see that Jonathan Freeman has kept a special bound and affection to this character. Jafar would have deserved to be the Sultan. Elegant, smart, clever and immense.

He was talking about the characters inception from an actors perspective. The parrots voice gave him licence to create a slower tempo and a softer timbre. He’s not talking about the character being calm because of Iano but of the way it works in the construction

In fact, it was Jafar that first made me fall in love with movie villains, along with Darth Vader, Loki, and (a villain VERY similar to Jafar) Emperor Palpatine. I personally think George Lucas and Ian McDiarmid may have used a little of Jafar as inspiration for Palpatine's portrayal in the prequels, but I could be totally wrong.
