QUESTION - What has helped you the most with finding migraine relief? Was it medication, glasses, or a lifestyle change?

I have severe chronic migraines, and wouldn’t be able to function without medications as well as learning and avoiding my triggers (especially cheap chocolate). I’ve also had benefits from using glasses with the FL 41 tint. The lights in Walmart have always been a trigger for me, but my “pink glasses” make it doable.

100% finding the right medication. After trying about five different meds, we found the right one, but I’m still not functioning at 100% for about 48 hours after a migraine. Although, I haven’t tried any of the solutions involving lenses.

Taking magnesium citrate supplements made a huge difference in the frequency and severity of my migraines. The citrate is important for absorption. When I accidentally bought magnesium without it, my migraines increased dramatically. (I experience a wide variety of migraine types.) I have also had Axon Optics glasses that function the same way the brand in this video does. 👍 They also have contacts which I will probably try soon.

4 months chemotherapy. I used to get debilitating migraines where all I could do was black out my room, close my eyes and suffer for 8 to 24 hours. After cancer and 4 months chemo I didn't even get to much as a mild headache for about 10 years. and probably another 7 years before I got my first migraine. No One has ever been able to explain it.

When in grad school, I developed migraines one year. They actually cleared up when I started working seriously on my dissertation. Best guess is my body was telling me that if I didn't work on the dissertation, I wouldn't be able to work on anything else.
I still have sinus headaches and become light sensitive then. Since I live in Texas, there's a lot of bright sunlight. In grad school in Ann Arbor, the cold wind and drafts triggered sinus headaches. As Gilda told us, "There's always something."

I still haven't really gotten relief or progress in my 12 years with migraines-
but I have found things that help with my full time symtoms.
Fresh foods, fish, and caffeine really help me.
(to be clear- neurologists are always making me avoid caffeine- I went without it for 4 years, and was never a habitual coffee drinker to begin with- I have not noted any improvements from avoiding it)
Raw high fat fish, and some coffee or a coke- every now and then -really can help improve the general sensitivity I feel.
I also find working out low-light set ups with good aesthetics can be really soothing- it helps make it feel like a comfy routine not a desperate attempt to hide- and making it an everyday thing it removes the pressure of trying to predict an attack.
the key thing is making sure there's just enough light to not need to turn any of it on if you need to get up in the night during an attack.

Seeing this after coming out of a migraine last night. Dear definitely out of my price range but I'm so glad that these are out there maybe one day in a year or so they will cost less. It gives hope to know that these are out there. 🌸 As for medications when I do have insurance I use toradol injections at the doctor's office. At home I just usually take Excedrin migraines and a coke. Along with Halo wraps their little ice packs that fit in a wrap that velcro around your head. And a soft ice pack for my neck.

Feverfew tincture has helped immensely to buy me time to get home before it comes head on. Sometimes I can head it off completely by taking it throughout the day. Since I get silent semi hemiplegic migraines which paralyze me down one side of my body and give me aphasia, it's important for me to have the time to get home. Otherwise I'm stuck on the road for however long it takes or unless someone comes to get me. I have also found that blocking the light helps so I'm very interested in these glasses. Thank you for doing a review about them as they do have a hefty price tag.
PS I got my migraines after a TBI. I eat a very clean diet and I watch my triggers. As far as prescriptions I use rizatriptan and cyclobenzaprine.I have found different things to help but I have not been able to get rid of these headaches.

I remember having Migraines since I was 10 (maybe they started before that but I don't know for sure)
In my experience the best thing to PREVENT migraines is tk have a constant routine with no drastic changes (eg. If I sleep for 8hrs/day normally, it will probably trigger a migraine if I sleep for less than 4 or more than 11hrs, or being in a very loud noise place contrary to the norm)
To REMEDY my migraines I've noticed that the best and most effective has always been to sleep or eat red apples (strange perhaps but I've found them to be way more effective than most medications)

I get headaches and migraines a lot. Alerts are usually the sensation of tingling or sharp pain right behind my eyeballs. That's a sure fire notion I'm about to get a migraine for sure. I never had these when I was younger. I'm coming off a 4 day migraine as we speak. Not much has helped. I've gone through several types of medication, shots, changed my diet, eating habits etc..still searching for that one helpful thing I suppose. I do a lot of screen watching all day so I know that contributes but I also wear special eye wear to help my eyes have less strain when viewing the screen all day. Take breaks when I can and so forth. Thanks for this video. I'm going to look into these. Be nice if they could get FDA approved and insurance could help out with these.

I'm so thankful that you share great information. I started having "regular" migraines, I was able to get rid of them by going to bed early. However, my migraine has changed to a more neurological issue (almost like stroke like symptoms) . My vestibular system gets affected, I have to go through physical therapy to readjust it. I was controlling it with a healthy diet, yoga and sleep schedule. However, my last episode left me unable to recover and was getting migraines constantly. Now, I am using an injectable medication Ajovy. First month on it and seeing how my body adjusts. So far I have not have a migraine. Will look into the glasses since I still suffer from photo phobia.
Update: discontinue the medication because on day 29 (before next shoot) I develop a random itch. It appears and goes, mostly on my face and extremities. Day 30 and 31, after initial shoot, were really bad.

I was diagnosed by a specialist with vestibular migraines, which are caused by my chronic migraines. Quick suggestion that works for my vestibular migraines is an icepack for about 10sec behind my left ear on the vagus nerve and the dizziness just fades away. Specialist also suggested boswellia, which may have helped some.
I am on Ajovy and it has worked well for me. I had similar results with Aimovig. Hope you have found something that has been effective for you.

I found that migrane is usually overexcitement and stress related. Aura comes like electric short circuit that cannot be controlled. So cutting down Coffee helps alot. I only take one normal Cup at morning to wake up and then only caffeine free Coffee. Its ok to use caffeine if you are tired and need to drive. But most of the time people that are too wired up just take more Coffee and get even more wired up.

I got the CEFALY device and that has helped the most. I hate the medication I’m on. I get a severe hangover after an attack using MAXALT. I need to search for migraine meds that don’t have that. The CEFALY is great but you need to clean your skin to apply the device then clock out for 45-60 minutes which isn’t always feasible. Hoping glasses help. I'm super new to migraines and figuring out what triggers mine and what signs/symptoms show up prior to the actual onset. I typically start getting a headache before the migraine itself actually hits. I've learned that if I take OTC headache relief as soon as I start having a headache, it helps to keep the migraine from coming on.

Do you see a lot of chainsaw eye injuries? Me and my dad both went to the ER after using a stilh chainsaw. While mine was a large cut on my eye lens from flying wood or metal, the ol man had the saw kick back and hit him across the eye which chewed up his face above and below the eye, and mangled his eyelid. The doctor said the teeth scraped his eye but didnt cut it. A close call that is one in a million. He refused to go back to a doctor and his eyelid healed funny. If you looked at him while he was sleeping, you could see enough of his blue eye seeming to be looking back at you.

When it comes to migrains ive found blue light glasses from gunnar, specifically the 35% have been my go to lenses, as someone who works in front of a computer screen and also stays infront of that screen after work it was debilitating having migraines due to eye stress.
When i get an aura i take an advil and the migrain is alot less terrible but i suffer from neurological issues during the migrain releated to speech, motor skills and word comprehension/association.
with the blue light glasses from gunnar that hasnt been an issue, in some time (knock on wood) I tried other lenses from a couple of companies but they didnt work well, the downside is the frames from gunnar arent all that great, they are a bit heavy or rub the ear in a not great spot depending on the frame ofc. so my idea world would be oakley apparition frames with gunnar lenses as silicon nose pads dont work great for me on most frames

One pair I got that has really helped were glasses that had mid strength pink lenses that were designed for florescent lights which i found out by mistake when ordering safety glasses for work about a year ago and literally has help with migraines at work 80%+..
So there are other options, and this company will find out, or others will take their tech and make them cheaper. Just give it a year or so..

My migraines usually lead to nausea so I often take both a migraine medicine like excedrin and a nausea pill like pepto bismol. I also have autism which I’ve been told also increases my likelihood of getting migraines 😭 been looking into migraine glasses to wear most of the time since I also just have general light sensitivity being an autistic person 🥴 the $300 price tag is a bit steep though, any recommendations for more affordable ones would be much appreciated (no prescription lenses here!)

Sausage bacon and hotdogs. They all have nitrates in them. A salt preservative. If someone is sensitive to salt, they will be sensitive to salt family members such as nitrates, msg, etc. They make the receptors fire repeatedly. Similar in function to how aspartame tricks the body into thinking it has sugar in it which still messes with your insulin response. Stick to fresh meats or home smoked bacon without nitrates. I eat hotdogs that do not have nitrates and they do not give me headaches, although they do make me feel bloated after 2 or 3 :)

Thanks for the great question. Contact lenses have worked very well for me over the years. Is anti glare and anti reflective coating are the same or not! should I apply anti glare and anti reflective coating in both sides or just in inside part for sunglasses! Is dust and water repellent is a coating or natural attributes of polycarbonate lens! Please reply, it will help me a lot

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hey Krishna! Anti-glare is just another way of saying Anti-reflective coating. It is best to have anti reflective coatings on both sides of spectacle lenses and at least on the backside of sunglasses. Dust and water repellent is a coating that is often combined with better or higher end anti-reflectives. Polycarb lenses naturally block almost 100% UV light and are more impact resistant, but do tend to scratch easier and have more color distortion.

After what we went through in the last 2-3 yrs, I'm going to not believe any corporate research unless there's unfathomably substantial evidence cross-verified by independent researchers
    Remember,
There was quite a bit of "research" hype for blue-blocking lenses, and then their benefits turned out to be meh. Now, Dr. Andrew Huberman often recommend against wearing those because it blocks wavelengths needed for some neurochemistry. (I'm not about to write an esaay here. You wany to know more? Alright, I feel I have to ask, but I’m very scared of the answer.
A year ago, I got eye floaters. A couple of months before that I started wearing contacts, and often I did not wash my hands before taking my contacts out (I regret this so much now). One day I noticed I had a couple of noticeable floaters, and since then I have not worn contacts and I get a lot of anxiety thinking of them because I think it’s because of them and my lack of hand washing which caused my floaters. (Like maybe I got an infection)

But she says it is because I am not managing my blood sugar. However, my A1C is always under 7.0 and is currently 6.7. My diabetes nurse is very pleased with that, and the ophthalmologist even says she sees no evidence of eye damage. Do you think it would help if I ask the eye clinic to give me an eye exam starting as if I don’t wear glasses instead of reading the last prescription and starting at that point? (I am thinking the prescription may be off because my prescription was once changed when I had inflammation of the blood vessels in my brain from lupus and was experiencing strange vision anomalies.
