I have had a hearing loss since I was kid. I had surgery to try to correct the problem. Recently however, my hearing loss has been dropping dramatically and will lose most of it soon. With that, I have been looking for videos to help me learn ASL. I have found a number of good resources here on TH-cam, but you are one of two that I watch consistently. You have really helped me accelerate my ASL learning and I so appreciate you. I have learned so much from you. I was intimidated when I began, but coming across your channel changed all that. I've watched all your videos and rewatch them. I am looking forward to more of your content. If I may, have you thought about creating content that has you testing your viewers? conversational phrases? finger spelling? and more? As if we were in a one on one conversation wit you. I am trying to find groups that I can practice, but they don't work with my schedule or only meet once a month. Where I put what you have taught into practice? I'd love to feel confident and know that I can understand what someone is signing to me. That would be so helpful. Again, thank you. You are wonderful!!!!!
Thank you so much for the very kind words. I appreciate it. Also, thank you for sharing your story. I’m happy to know that my videos have been so helpful. Have you watched Lifeprint or ASLMeredith? I believe both offer classes and have “testing” videos. In the past I have offered lessons (mostly during covid) but with my current schedule I no longer do so. Incorporating a testing format in future videos would be useful but I’m not sure how I would go about that yet. Thank you for the idea, I will look into it.
I'm in the same boat as you. Lost most of my hearing as a toddler. only now at 61 I decided to learn ASL. I found that the channel "Learn How to Sign" is an excellent learning source as well. Her name is Meredith also. I'm going to checkout the 2 that Dana suggested. Best wishes!
@@ASLLOVE LOL!!! Perhaps you could wear a referee outfit complete with pinstripes and cap and do some ASL sports signs. ASL THAT has posted just such a video, but sadly he is no longer able to make videos.
I just wanted to thank you. I find your videos very helpful. I'm autistic with severe anxiety disorder, trying to learn sign language for when I slip into a nonverbal state, instead of just writing things out. Your movements and facial expressions are extremely helpful. I haven't been able to find anyone else thus far who can explain in a way I can easily understand and copy, since I'm not great with expression. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for the kinds words. I appreciate it and I’m happy to know that my videos are helping. I hope you find ASL to be a valuable resource when you need it.
Thank you for posting these videos. My husband found your channel not too long ago and it has helped us tremendously in teaching our autistic 5 year old sign language to communicate the words that he can not speak. I can not express my gratitude enough.
Thank you A lot your such an awesome Teacher 🙏🏻❤️ Because of you I can teach others too even to catch them aware and teach them the basics of things such as the sign for Help and how Facial Expressions matters! Because of you I can be a friend to those who are Deaf! Thanks for being an outstanding teacher! It’s helping me to see how learning ASL is actually a life skill and not many acquire it. So thank you with the deepest of thanks 🙏🏻.-Martin R.
Hi Dana - appreciate your videos. I'm working on teaching myself as well as during training our new puppy I'm working on teaching her ASL and also trying to see if I can teach our other puppy (whose a little older and a lot bigger) and hoping it'll fit in with our kitties lol. Is there a chance you could do a video with ASL Signs for commands and possible just conversations you might have with your furbaby ?
Hi and thanks for watching. That is a great idea. I can come up with a short in the next week (or 2). I can include sit, stay, lay down, outside, etc. Do you have any specific words or phrases you would like to learn?
Hola - *not* hate, just constructive: - just 2 problems i hope you fix because this channel could be SUPER!: (1) You really need the words in TEXT somewhere on the screen as you do the signs!. Either way, you stand to benefit...Ppl prefer transparency!
Hi and thanks for watching. I appreciate the feedback. I'm not sure why the subtitles didn't come up for you, but they are there. I find when I expand the screen on my phone you can see them. For some reason, when you leave the screen small they do not show even when I select CC. They automatically play on a larger device such as a laptop or desktop. As for showing how many subs my channel has...the info is definitely there when you look at the home page. I'm not sure what you mean. I wouldn't want to hide it.
The LORD bless and keep you, turn His face toward you, smile on you, be gracious to you and give you peace (Numbers 6:24 to 26 paraphrased). Thank you! Jesus died for our sins. God raised Jesus Christ from the dead!
Hi and thanks for watching. I would use the same sign for "can." How you order the sentence can vary depending on what you are trying to convey. For the example of "Can I?" You could sign "Can?" I would do this by changing my facial expression to a questioning look. Raise your eyebrows, etc.
That's a great question. You can use it for the word "don't" and you will see it used that way. There are a lot of ways that you can sign "don't" depending on the context. "Don't want," Don't like," and "Don't understand" are all signed differently (and are just some examples). th-cam.com/video/S__TNol3TeM/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared&t=41 th-cam.com/video/noRNuXWB5mM/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared&t=52
