Some tips to use in the future:
Never use the paper gaskets under the cylinders. If for some reason you do use them you should coat them in a gasket sealant like Permatex aviation. However the better option is to instead run a thin bead of high temp silicone on the cylinders before installing them and leave off the paper gaskets.
You should always pull the pistons out of the cylinders and align the rings in the correct order before installing them. You should ALWAYS do that instead of trusting that the piston and cylinder manufacturer has done it for you.
I reccomend putting the pushrod tubes in dry. When you coat them in permatex they tend to not seat properly and cause a leak.
Always make sure the pushrod tube seam is facing up. Just incase the seam has a leak.
Last thing is the flywheel seal. You did not install it properly. They make a tool for that. It has to be pushed in further than you have it. It doesn't just sit flush with the block. It actually drops in a bit further into the block.

Nice work Jared, love how you disassemble and build cars up as if they were legos!

First time I've seen this and was a bit surprised that there is no gasket between cylinders and head. How do they seal without one? And - GREAT series of videos Jerod!!! Perfectly filmed and perfectly edited. Easy to follow and conveniently fast forward where it can be done without ruining the message.

Thanks, yeah it’s surprising they didn’t need a gasket. But there were millions of them built that way so I guess it worked fine.

Hope those urethane gearbox mounts work out. I know several people who have fitted them and then gone back to the stock ones as the had a really negative affect on the quality of the ride.
Really enjoyed the build series on this one ☝🏼

Jared; you need to install the air deflector tins under the cylinders; they are crucial. The engine will be cooked if you don’t. You did install the ones on the heads but the ones for the cylinders are the most important. I take it back I spoke too soon whew! 🤣. Normally they tell you to install the pushrod tubes with the weld facing up; also they suggest acorn nuts at the sump plate to prevent leaks and the oil deflector plate inder the generator stand goes with the curved part of the louvers facing to the center of the case (frankly don’t know if that makes any difference) but hey; you can’t win them all. I noticed you didn’t install the thermostat and flap system but I believe it had been removed previously. Not sure if it gets a little cool where you’re located but this system helps the motor warm up quicker and in a more controlled way during initial startup. My car warms up and falls into perfect idle almost instantly and without an electric choke. Love the way the painted tin came out; like factory. Looking great!

Why haven't the crankshaft liners been replaced? When starting in the first episode, the oil pressure lamp did not go out for a long time. This could indicate the wear of the crankshaft. It was necessary to check it while the engine was disassembled.

You may find those sump nuts will weep oil over time.
Stock engines have domed nuts and copper washers.

I'm curious why you used a new oil cooler. I am just wondering if I should do that with my build.

if you forgot this bottom cylinder deflector is a disaster on your engine... Nice job. Congrats.

Usually from the shop manual or from a google search.
