  • For my 1967 Volkswagen Beetle project I decided to give the engine I rebuilt a few years ago a lick of paint. This video shows the process in under 10 minutes.
    I had rebuilt the rest of the engine around 5 years before making this video so I knew the internals were good, this was just to freshen up the tin ware and fan housing.

    If you found this video helpfull and it saved you spending a lot of money at a main dealer or garage then I would be really grateful if you could drop me a wee donation using the super thanks button and help me make more of these videos. Thank you all, Dave.

    Beautiful video! You sent me back to the 80's when I was back in Cuba with my dad working on my 1956 bug. Love your video.

    Brings back memories: I was doing this very deed a couple of years back with my own flat 4. Well worth the effort! Good vid thanks.

    Please put a metal fuel filter from NAPA just under the tank. Those plastic ones are Molotov Cocktails positioned directly over an ignition source. Ask me how I know. Great job and great video!! Pure V-Dub porn!

    Don't know but I believe that you have done this before--very peaceful watching you take engine apart and putting it back together again-back in the early days, I owned two Beetles, a 1965 one that I used for a Mud Machine and a New 1972 Super Beetle that was Fun to Drive in that era of time....

      Thanks. I have done this once or twice in my 25 years of tinkering with VW's but this was the first time I bothered recording the process. I bet your '65 didnt stay clean for long.

    than you sure did a good job on it, Some time back my dads mate had a blown head gasket in his VW combi and I did the gasket change with engine inside, very easy to work on these cars.

    Came out sweet plus i learned what that machine in the kitchen is for ! No dought you are. A bachelor like me LOL Cool draw on the hose ! Nothing better than a well organized and clean engine on a older car or boat !

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Craig. The machine in the kitchen is apparently called "the F***ing dishwasher". I learned that when my wife said "why are there car parts in the f***ing dishwasher"....... I got away with it when I told her the parts were off her car :-)

    It's nice to rebuild an engine that's complete and not butchered. I've done a couple in my time and spent days repair crap other people have devised on these engines.

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This engine had spent its life in the USA so the tinware hadnt had the chance to rust badly. It was a nice change to have all the screws come out without tearing the tinware to bits.

    not only fascinating from a mechanical point of view, but a really really fine piece of film making and editing as well. especially loved the audio (the occasional bird in the background was a plus). incredibly entertaining. thanks for all of it! P.S. subscribed!

    Nicely done ! One suggestion -more use of torque wrench /specs.

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Tim. Thanks for the suggestion but video is not meant to be a detailed how to, just a quick entertaining story of how I did the job. All the torque specs can be found in workshop manuals.

    This video was so satisfying to watch, but I seriously hope he tightened that crank pulley. That vibration will wreck the crankshaft.

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks and yes, the crank pully was torqued up and has been fine for the last 4 years. It dosnt run true but its not off enough to effect the engine.

    So that's what a clean, painted and stock air sucker looks like. After all the ones in my log book i thought they were an urban myth. I'd give money to drive one again but I know I'd want my money back on the first freeway entrance ramp. It's a dysfunctional relationship.😄😠
