People who grew them should also inform people how long it takes for these fruits to fully grow. Any fruits they grew in their life.

Great video! I loved growing papayas, besides having the cops coming in the house to check what was going on with the artificial lights in winter, and that tropical/suspect looking foliage...the fruit in itself was tasteless ( the one I grew ), but the flowers and the plant itself was very beautiful. Looking forward to seeing yours growing up.

After watching your videos on growing papaya seeds I decided to give it a try. I live in UK.
30.11.18 put seeds in wet tissue, 5 weeks later they germinated. I planted the seedlings near a radiator and they grew 4cm in just over week. They look nothing like yours, they even look like weeds.
Next question will they bear fruit this year, how tall will they get. I would love to plant them in the ground but what about our winters. I live in Croydon in Surrey UK. Many thanks, Poppy

I'm looking to germinate them indoors during winter time in Australia (I'm just a bit North of Sydney,32° south of the equator) because it's winter time & it's going to get down to 13-14°C tomorrow, I want to use the paper towel method.
I have some seeds dried & stored in jars, the trick is to soak up them in warm water for 24 hours, that worked for me last year.
The yellow papaya seeds that I had saved from the summer before took 3 months to germinate after I planted them last September.
I thought they were dead but they germinated after a bout of 30+°C heat, they particularly germinate better with 35-40°C heat, they have trouble (they virtually don't) germinating in winter where the day temperatures are 15-19°C on average & the night temperatures are in the single digits with the lowest being 0°C which kills the seedlings when they are kept outdoors.
When I get my own place I'll put in a greenhouse !

Excellent! Greenhouses and polytunnels are great. I imagine it would get super hot in Australia. I went to Australia many years ago. Lovely country.

Dan I am not going to say I told you so when you planted your cherrey tree !! but I did tell you, you can not keep cherrey trees small even on a dwarf root stock and when you plant it out it will grow 2m in a year and the more you prune it the more it will grow

The mountain pawpaw, or mountain papaya would be hardier plant, Agroforestry Research trust might do seeds, or plants.
Have you tried Feijoa ? Its a lovely fruit, I've been growing it but its not warm enough outside for the fruit to develop.
Thanks for sharing, good to see a cold climate video on these fruits.
    Greetings from Ireland.

      @@homegardens7682 that's great to hear.
I know Burncoose nurseries used to do a couple of NZ varieties Triumph and Mammoth , and Future Forests nursery here in Ireland did Unique, which is supposedly a good one for cooler climates.
Seedlings and unnamed Feijoas are a gamble.
They have such a lovely taste, I didn't like them at first, then got addicted to them, ask any Kiwi about Feijoa .
Good luck, looking forward to seeing how you get on.

Hello. My friend has a place I can put them. A good place could be a conservatory. You could try covering it over or putting it inside a mini greenhouse within a polytunnel. Bubble wrap can be great also.

I live in Florida, Zone 9, and I planted a papaya tree in the ground in early spring this year. It grew like a weed to about 12 feet tall and is loaded with fruit. Unfortunately we had a couple of very cold days, this winter, getting down to 26 degrees F. I put non-LED Christmas netting lights on it, covered leafy portion and fruit with a fabric plant cover, covered trunk with a flannel blanket, and placed buckets of water all around the trunk. The fruit now looks dotted with small black spots, and a couple of fruits fell off. I don’t have much confidence that the fruit will be any good, sadly. I probably will give up on having a fruiting papaya tree in the ground, though I’ll leave it for its’ beauty as long as it looks good. It’s too much to climb ladders, put covers on and off, deal with buckets of water, etc. for this senior woman! I hope to extend a greenhouse off a wall of my house and keep a papaya tree in there. Very cold-sensitive trees!

You sound like a man after my own heart, you are obviously English sounding so what part of the UK do you live, South West, North? Just wondering as I’m in E.London and am just moving onto trying to grow Satsumas, but gonna try a Mango as the seed is so big it looks like an Alien pod, so has to be done, hehehe
