Freakin beautiful sequence here. Alia is terrifying. I understand that if you want to see the novel portrayed as it’s described by Herbert, you may not be satisfied by, well, any of this. But if you can separate this from the novel and simply treat it as a (studio compromised) Lynch film, there’s a lot to love.

Having lived your entire life without ever even seeing a cloud, In a world where water is so preciouses it is recovered from the dead, and the living's own waste. Where your personal wealth is measured not in monetary units but in how much water belongs to you, how would you react if water just started pouring out of the sky?

When Alia uses the Voice...ai ya! That's downright terrifying. Just the way she ought to be. Flawed as this movie is (and I'm not a fan of David Lynch anyway), it did get a lot of things right, and she was one of them.

    • @rushthezeppelin

I would say it's in a way better than the book. The book never describes it as anything other than subtle changes with intonation and tone to fit the weaknesses of the person being exploited with it. Without something like internal narration though you wouldn't really know the voice is being used in the movies. This I think is a great way to make the voice obvious and ominous. Going to see Dennis' version tonight and I hope he does something similar to make it obvious when the voice is being used.
