I think this is funny too bc we haven’t even factored in different cultures. I know growing up in Austin, we had a big melting pot of cultures in my high school. I remember thinking my Korean friends, Mexican friends (where they were the first gen mex- Americans), Salvadoran friends, Chinese friends, etc.. had such cool lives or strange practices and I have always been a lover of all things different to me.
Also, Emily, I instantly got the Gaither Gospel reference 🤣🤣🤣

I always did the finger whistle to call my kids too! So loud they could hear in a crowd or from anywhere in the neighbourhood. Now they are grown I haven't used it in years. Tried to do it a while ago as a joke when both adult kids were at a distance. I spit all over my hand and made a weird airy whistle. They laughed their heads off and told me I was old! HA HA~

I think you did a great job talking about your childhood with a sense of humor but also respecting your parents. Others who can relate are likely to laugh and enjoy this. It’s those who resent their upbringing and have turned their back on God that will take it further. You understand that your parents were doing the best they could and as we all do, their views probably evolved as time went on. Also, my husband’s family had a TV guardian thing too….I remember one of the bad caption substitiuion. It was something along the lines of, “get off your toe you clown”. 😂
