Reminds me of a friend I had after high school, who'd always have a million recommendations and show you little clips of stuff and it would be the best thing ever
In my mind I go back to being in middle school playing local wireless Nintendo DS games on a flashcard with my friend. We'd always show up a bunch of new weird games. And most of them required only 1 person to have the game to play multiplayer.
Everytime you talk about this PS3-era, I remember the time I worked a second job at Gamestop, while doing my jobtraining. We had this drawer with used PS3 titles that noone was interested in anymore, 'cause of the 8th generation. There was it all: Yakzua Dead Souls, Binary Domain, Vanquish, EDF4, Resonance of Fate, Akiba Strip, Folklore and more. No one ever bought those and my boss allowed me to take them home and play them for a week or so. Loved that time. Thank you, for making me reminisce that.
I think this is one of the best videos you've made. Loved the "Life" section, and the pacing of it all felt great. Also, that ending made me laugh out loud IRL, so kudos for that.
I love how you highlight these games most people would just consider throwaways that would otherwise be relegated to the dustbin of generations. A nostalgia pop for those that enjoyed them in their prime, a warm friend to those still playing now and a delightful surprise to those who missed them or passed them by in their time. And I hear that Soil & Pimp, player.
Thank you so much for existing and creating videos like these. The way you phrase your thoughts and add ideas together in a smooth flow never ceases to amaze me. I also admire the way you are, unashamedly, you - making jokes only a couple of people would understand, playing absolutely random games and paying so much attention to the little things - that it makes me rethink some things about myself and about shame. I used to have a lot of problems with being ashamed of myself - still do, actually, learning how to live with ADHD, with being queer, even with sharing thoughts and hobbies with others. I really like the parts when you talk about your life, your experiences, your current and past struggles in a vulnerable, but honest way, that you just post your discord logs, how you show your daily routines without any censorship or changes - not because of the parasocial relationship, although i did worry about your state after the homelessness scare - but because you show your solutions and thoughts that I can then rethink, rewire a bit and reuse in my own life and struggles. This second perspective to life, although in a different context, different country etc feels so... refreshing and helpful. Thank you, with all my heart, stay safe and healthy, and as you have taught me, don't ever be afraid to do things your way. Hope I will one day be ready to stand up on my own two feet and shout to the world that I am, I exist and I want to share myself in a way similar to yours.
ngl, I kind of love you randomly throwing Koudelka onto the DOS games thumbnail you showed, I mean that render of her looks really cool, so I get just wanting to use it somewhere even if it's from a PS1 game and not a DOS game (unless Koudelka had a DOS port I just never knew about before,) but it's still just super funny to me, also I'm hyped to see the 2022-style So I've Been Playings return since while I still really like all your other vids, I just love checking my subscription page to see a barrage of videogame characters, most of whom I've never seen before in my life, just crammed into a thumbnail with the cool side text accompanying them
Gonna be real with you Thor, I always liked this format/series, and I'm glad to see it back. I'm also glad to see you've found some more stability in your life. I'm ND as well and I struggle at being a regular ass human being so good job 👍
Front Mission Evolved still works on PC. I don’t know how well but there’s a discord group from the Front Mission subreddit that’s been organizing online matches for a while.
13:46 you mention the greatest game of all time, Anarchy Reigns which is an arena fighter not a shooter. Tho it almost feels like an arena shooter in it's battle royal format and perks.
@@beat-man5167 would the upcoming Kings of Hell count as an arena fighter? Hey, thanks for doing a video on About An Elf. I bought that game when it went on sale because of your So I've Been Playing video on it. It was great. I never would've heard of it without your video. The Nintendo eshop has tons of games on it, but if you don't know what you're looking for, you'll miss a huge amount of stuff on it.
There are few things that spark genuine joy in my salty, hardened, cold dead heart. New Thor Content to deepen the High Heels Lore is near the top of that list. Also. Enjoyed Dreamcast cameo near the end. Thanks for being you homie.
As someone watching you for over 7 years, seeing "SIHBP" return brought a tear to my eye. (Also, I'm SO HAPPY you are feeling well, doing well health wise)

I just wanna say dude that I love your videos and I think the little life update bits are super cool, as I also stress out a bunch about creative stuff in a similar autistic sorta way lol. It's nice to see how you've found ways to deal with it, and that in turn also helps me figure out how to navigate it as well. You're awesome, genuinely one of the best creators on this site imo. I really appreciate how chill and non-trend-chasing your stuff is.
I am pretty sure you are going to enjoy the Dark Sector single player campaign. If not, you will be at the very least intrigued by it. I also strongly recommend you to search on its fascinating development history which is full of twists and turns that come with some subjects that I know interests you.
Excellent look back at some of the forgotten stuff from an era that has been very much forgotten when it comes to modern gaming. That mention of Front Mission Evolved got me a bit excited, I picked up a copy on PS3 last year after remembering your original review. Would love to try and mess with the online mode, would need to screw around with setting but would still a blast to check out.
29:44 ehhhh I'd argue that in edf 5 and 6 you are the main character specially in 6, by the end of its (surprisingly well written and engaging) time travel plot you are ABSOLUTELY the main character-est of all main characters and I am mentioning 5 because those two games are so tied togheter plot wise that I'd almost say they are two parts of a big whole (EDF usually is more FF like in that every entry is a different setting, or the same setting but with no real continuity; 5 and 6 changed that) spoilers but 5 has an almost ace combat sort of deal where you become an elite recognized by the guys in charge 6? 6 you become the shining representation of humanity's sheer willpower, going through a one man/woman (implied to be) centuries long endless time travel war, with the people in charge downright prioritizing you over others and even sending units specifically to help you. and ending with you 1 V 1 -ing an alien god in order to resolve a time paradox that will result in either humanity or their species being erased from existence.

I find it so strange that we don’t have more third person shooters that follow the Earth Defense Force formula. Because it’s a great formula. You go good size open zones with destructible environments, tons of enemies to kill, and big giant enemies of different types to show off scale. It’s just a fantastic pure action game formula and yet nobody else really does it. There’s a few things that are like one step away from EDF, but nobody else has really tried it. And I love EDF, but if someone made “EDF” but with better shooting and vehicle controls that’d be pretty great.
Funniest Earth defense moment I remember was a general saying something like "If we make it out of this, I'm going but you dinner" and the whole squad in unison declaring "You better feed us well!" It was so over-the-top and unexpected. Great game

spoilers
