Not that drumming is a popularity contest, but I find Herb one of the most under-appreciated drummers out there when it comes to the most innovative drummers of all time. Tim has the rare gift of phat groove & pocket as well as the chops which he applies very tastily. Definitely one of my biggest influences in drumming.
I seen Tim, Les, and Larry play Seas of Cheese from start to finish at Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix like 16+ years ago.i remember Tim looked me square in eyes. He probably thought what a loser. Lol. It was the perfect show and something I will cherish forever.
Loved how he nonchalantly avoided mentioning that 16" Wuhan China that was 3" away from his head after listing all his zildjians. Pretty slick there, Herb.
Tim's style is the perfect fit for Primus. Primus is a very rhythm-based band where the bass and drums are the basis for the entire sound (not discounting Larry or Todd, they're an invaluable part of it too). Tim's more "jazzy" basis lends very well to this as he has a strong sense of rhythm while also being able to be more intricate (as my Dad, a former drummer, would say, he plays a lot of fills). Jay Lane (and I'm sure some of the other drummers) is similar in this regard, which is probably why he's such a solid fit too, but Tim definitely has his own feel to him. You can definitely hear the difference when that element isnt in the band, like in the Brain era. Brain is a good drummer (especially when he's working with Buckethead), but he's too straightforward and hard-hitting for Primus. His albums always felt more simplistic musically as a result (Brown Album's still my least favorite). Anyways, Tim is a great drummer and arguably the best Primus drummer. Hats off to him.
I quit playing drums many many years ago and a really good friend of mine named Amy turned me on to Sailing the seas of Cheese. Been playing ever since.
linebum2112 hang on to that....zildjian doesn't make anything like that anymore. I wish they'd release some of these bells endorsees are using as prototypes. The zilbels are too one dimensional.
love my Impulse 20" ride. I'll never let that one go. i also have and oddball 13" K Custom bottom hat (hammered and NO tonal grooves like the rides) also has scallops cut out on the edges like the old Amir bottom hats.
one of the most influential drummers in my life along W/ Copeland bruford peart carrey& Bozzio! Herb the ginseng drummer his drums speaks to me. I mean if there's a guy out there who embodies my drumming more than anybody and ive stolen more chops from then any drummer it's probably him. And I'm a big fan of the OCTaBANS! when Primus remade Charlie and the Chocolate Factory I went to that tour and saw them in New Orleans and that was the first time I'd seen them since I saw them open up for Rush on the roll the bones tour Circa 1993 when he was using that pork pie drum set which was absolutely incredible sounding. And I know that massive Kit he used on the chocolate factory tour was that dark red star classic with concert Tom's all over it I mean it was just a massive playground of drums. Really good concert but the next tour for the first real LP that they had done since Tales from the Punchbowl, which was the desaturating seven he use the more traditional drum set not that Mega playground like he used on the chocolate factory tour. And to me Tim sounded much better on the more traditional kit I think it was that white Tama starclassic just absolutely blew me the freak away. The great concept album which the desaturating seven is. it's very shorts probably the shortest album they've ever done but going from Chocolate Factory to the Seven album that's a big change but maybe the next album do something like sailing the Seas of cheese cuz I believe he's sticking around he's not going anywhere just as long as you know his health issues are behind him I know he's had two heart attacks and he had triple bypass surgery. I hope we can keep him on this Earth as long as we possibly can cuz he is very into fluential to me and many others out there thanks Tim. The ginseng drummer
Most drummers probably have something in their endorsement contract that says they can still use Wuhan chinas lol even Neil Peart played one up until his Paragon line was released
+dogmart Looks like a Wuhan 17" (I have a 20")... :3 I had a couple of Skype lessons with Tim a few years ago & really wanted to know what China he was using in '89-'90, but he couldn't remember; suggested maybe a 17" Wuhan.. But if you watch Primus vids from 89/90, that aint no 17". It's practically the same size as his Zildjian 22" Impulse Ride (bestest ride evarr :D) I managed to find a 22" Impulse Ride for sale from some guy in Ireland, which he'd had it since '83. You'll be hard pressed to find another out there (I got lucky), but even harder pressed to work out what that bloody China cymbal was from all those years ago! I'm still waiting for the model details to magically fall from the sky.. Anywho. 17" Wuhan China is my bet for this vid.
+Haamurabai Greygate It is a Wuhan 18" china. In the November 2014 of DRUM magazine Tim is featured, and the info on his setup says that's what it is and it's intentionally cracked too.
Tim was the best drummer Primus got , never can be replace. Tim for ever.
albert larroca dude the drums on frizzle fry and pork soda are some of the best I’ve ever heard

Tim Alexander is the type of guy to love a cymbal because it sounds like a gong, and then have an actual gong hanging right next to it
I genuinely think Tim is the most underrated percussionist ever, just a flawless musician, absolutely flawless.
Amazing song writer. His drum parts blow my mind. Constantly hearing new things every time I listen.

One of my most favorite drummers!
Yes Tim Old Buddy is Back Strong!
Loved how he nonchalantly avoided mentioning that 16" Wuhan China that was 3" away from his head after listing all his zildjians. Pretty slick there, Herb.
That and his Zildjian impulse ride that he's been using since the beginning and is now outta production.
One heavy ass ride cymbal. That's how
Fatalsprigs By playing it correctly
Fatalsprigs cymbal*
@@ironlotus4484 I have a 20" Impulse. Great cymbal!
Tim is a monster drummer! Thanks for featuring this!
I would LOVE to watch him play. This guy's amazing.
Herb is a genius
Favorite drummer of all time
Underated musician
Tim is the man!!!!!!!!....i absolutely love the first beat of this video he is playing..primus and the chocolate factory - candy man!!!!

Absolutely one of the best drum composer/players ever. Still have my original 8" EFX #1 from the Seas of Cheese days.
linebum2112 hang on to that....zildjian doesn't make anything like that anymore. I wish they'd release some of these bells endorsees are using as prototypes. The zilbels are too one dimensional.
Yay Tim!!! MASSIVE influence and an amazing player. Cool to see the unique wonka kit, but still perfer his traditional set up :-)
Second favorite drummer just below Thomas Haake
You have good taste in percussion
Tim is one of my favorite Drummer
God bless him
love my Impulse 20" ride. I'll never let that one go. i also have and oddball 13" K Custom bottom hat (hammered and NO tonal grooves like the rides) also has scallops cut out on the edges like the old Amir bottom hats.
MadMaxx 010 - A friend of mine had those hats, with the K. Custom bottom back in the 90's. They sounded great!
Tim is like Bruford meets Bozzio..

still love it!!
I can't focus on his speech because his drumming sounds so good lol
Sound Alexander Tim Legacy
so underrated
8" A Custom Splash is where it's at.
the 6" was my favorite for years. they're both great, though.
He starts fucking playing spaghetti western toward the end
HERB!
Herb
LOL! Tim looks like Bill Murray here!
+Charlie Contrino Wow. He does
It's that Bill Murray is a real good actor able to impersonate one of the world's best drummers!
And this is the guy behind David Silvera’s KoRn original groove...
JD Matthews You got it!
Have you seen David's video of him playing along to jerry was a racecar driver?
🤘
The 4 dislikes are from drummers who play Sabian.
Bah! Tim's my favorite drumer, but I would choose Sabian over Zildjian any day. I like how mentions Paiste as his other choice.
What are the bell type cymbals in between the roto on the wonka kit? Steward Copeland uses them too I can’t find the name though.
I love that this is a Zildjian video, but we only hear that Wuhan china, lol.
Most drummers probably have something in their endorsement contract that says they can still use Wuhan chinas lol even Neil Peart played one up until his Paragon line was released
Tim Alexander is one of the greastest drummers ever. I could be biased tho, being a primus fan lol. My personal favorite of all time
Zildjian is like, damn it, is that a WUHAN China I see , someone get him on the phone Stat
kickass!! but PAiSTe rules!!
Ted Striker2112 yes sir!
That “16 china is a Wuhan, I have the same one, wicked!
Tim: You forgot to identify the small china to your right! What china is that, Zildjian?
+dogmart Looks like a Wuhan 17" (I have a 20")... :3

Very trashy. Pretty cool
Who knew jk Simmons played drums
Tim Alexander? More like Bill Murray's little brother.
He forgot about the ride cymbal
That wonka kit is sex
There is a Wuhan China lol
Does anyone ever want to hear anybody talk about playing drums? Of course not. everybody shutup and play.
Yes, actually. The ones that are interested in their setup.
Favorite drummer of all time
