AJ it seems like your family was still all about the Polaris for the 2023 models still and you went Ski Doo. Was the opinion for Ski doo mainly based upon fit and finish for 23 over your 21 review?
Is the IGX 146 skid on the 2021 Matryx SBA the same as the current SKS IGX 146? In terms of hardware I mean. The move to the 146 makes sense to me for plenty of reasons but I was more curious than anything else. I just bought a leftover 2020 SBA 800 and am super excited to ride it!
I am going to SnowCheck one - my question is should I go with the 15x146x1.5 ice storm or the cobra 15x146x2.0 track. I will be doing on trail and off trail riding.
I'm very surprised skidoo hasn't come up with a gauge cluster like this. I think I'm gunna go with Polaris for 21. I'm very excited to choose between I'm tilting towards Polaris.quick question what is the model Polaris in the 137
They were too busy spending 3yrs and all their R&D budget to make meh gauges and a turbo that 3% of mountain riders will actually buy in the next 2 years. Their turbo is inferior to putting a turbo kit on a machine in nearly every way.
Stupid question why you have a red and gray sticker in front and mine is black and gray (switch back sticker) i want this one. Mhy bad not same body color
Hey AJ! I have a 2020 Assault 800 with the PIDD guage package. I like it but it is kinda slow like you said. I am curious if you know if the 2021 gauge package would be compatible on the 2020 sleds? like an after market upgrade so to speak. are they interchangeable?
I enjoy your show and followed your recommendation when buying my latest sled. Thank You for the great advice. I currently ride a 2018 Switchback Assault with the 800 and am looking at getting a new sled. Noticed that the new Matrix 850 weighs 20lb more than the new Axys 850 and wonder why that happened?. I also noticed the Matrix is not available with the rear rack which is so helpful when carrying my ice fish gear, and wonder if it could be added on to a new Matrix? Or maybe I'm better off sticking with the Axys which still has the option of the excellent rear rack? Thanks again Guys!
Still wondering why the the Polaris web site says the Matrix will not accept the heavy duty rear rack like the Axys will. Not only is the rack great for hauling ice fishing gear, it also provides a solid base for my Norwegian Elkhound to ride along with me.
I've got a Chevy truck too and was thinking the same thing; 'dang! That screen and setup is awesome!' That's one gripe I have about GM, that infotainment system needs some serious improvement. But I do love the comfort and economy of my 2.8 duramax colorado!
That's actually a color I'd consider getting. Doo and Poo lacking colors a bit this year. Anybody notice how all reviews--this goes for new motorcycles too--is 1/3 about the tech gauges and features?
I can attest first hand the screen works great at -25. It wheelies great. Didnt have a backcountry to compare it to back to back. Im sure they both wheelie great though.
You don’t have to apologize for actually being able to ride different sleds and saying one does something better than another. We’re not all so insecure to know that something else might do something better than what we’re riding. I’d like to get a new sled this year but Coronavirus is guaranteeing that won’t happen. Besides I can’t say there’s a thing wrong with my axys. When it’s ready to be replaced I’ll get what I think is the best sled at the time. Don’t worry about hurting egos, just keep reporting on sleds. For the egos in the parking lot or trail side stops or restaurants or wherever you think you’re impressing everyone else with what you’re riding, we don’t know you, can’t see you with you’re helmet on and really don’t care in the first place. You be you and we’ll be unimpressed and do the same
Thanks man. We get alot of flak about our opinions and sometimes we get a bit defensive about it. None of us care who makes the best sled... we all just want to ride the best sled possible.
Good comment Eric. I ride with some diehard guys that love Polaris. During that stint when their sleds (mountain sleds at least) were not-so-great (I wasn't riding for a stretch there because of personal and health reasons), they switched to what was better. My neighbor loved his turbod Mountain Cat (he hated how fast it went through belts, but he thought it was the best mountain sled at the time, so that's what he rode). When Polaris uped their game with the PRO and eventually the AXYS, most of these guys switched back because after riding different sleds they felt that the Polaris was best for their purpose. All this boils down to personal preference. Different people ride different ways and have different styles. Personally, I LIKE having many manufacturers making good products. They force each other to up their game and make better machines. If there is only one manufacturer making one option, there is no reason to work to make stuff better. If consumers don't like it, they don't HAVE another choice. Personally, I cheer when "the other guys" make better improvements to their products. It means my guys will have to make theirs better or else I will be changing to something that will work and fit me better. Just like my uncle used to always tell me, "it's a good thing we all don't have the same tastes, or else we'd be in a heap of trouble when it came time for dating!"
For Idaho and Montana riding, does pretty much everyone agree that the 2" Crossover Track is the best option? For those of you Snow Checking this sled, what are you going with? Thanks!
Don't listen to the trolls...give your honest opinion, that's good enough for me. I have a 2018 Assault, and it's my fav sled...I just pre-ordered the new Khaos 155 S8/QD2, and am considering picking up an Assault for my daughter.
Long time doo rider. keep up the good reporting, and tell the kool aid drinkers on dootalk to pound sand. They cant take it that Poo is not only coming, they're better in many ways.
But Polaris is going to get left behind the next time a democrat gets elected and tightens emissions further. The manufacturers need to start perfecting 4-strokes.
@@brettgingery298 Ski-Doo ETEC did but that is only temporary seeing that its at the edge of its design. Look at the outboard marine industry its almost all 4-stroke because of emissions. As soon as another environmentalist gets elected and emissions tighten back up in the US 2-stroke will be going out the door.
AJ, really curious how does the ride quality of the IGX 146 rear suspension (now with the Velocity shocks) compare to rmotion in the rough studder bumps and kickers? I've had 3 past sleds with the IGX 144 and IGX 146 with regular W/E shocks and found no comparison to rmotion ride quality previously...the IGX was much rougher and just always kicked a lot on rough trails compared to the amazing rmotion skid, regardless of setup.
The IGX really doesnt compare to R-Motion because there is no 146 inch R-motion option. The Pro CC skid in the 129 and 137 does. If your comparing the IGX to something youd have to compare it to the skid in the Backcountry. And in this case, the IGX is WORLDS better. Pro CC 137 is a darn close comparison to a 137 Rmotion though.
Thanks for your input Luke. How would you guys say the 2021 Matryx with the 146 IGX and Velocity shocks compares with the "past" IGX 144 or 146 Axys with the standard WE shocks? I have also taken a 146 Backcountry XRS with the cmotion 146 and it was very impressive... including ride quality and bump absorption. I have owned 3 previous Axys IGX 144 and 146 sleds with the standard WE shocks. So really wondering what the Velocity shocks change/add to the IGX 146 Matryx skids behavior?
@@themxmonkey Hey Ryan, I'll say for sure the 146 IGX is a better riding rear skid than the C-Motion on the Backcountry. I find the C-Motion to be very good off trail but on trail I'm not as big a fan. The Velocity shocks really do add a better low end suppleness and compliance to the IGX skid and they deliver much better range on the adjustment than the previous WE shock of the 144. I tore it up on and off trail on the new 46 SBA and came away with literally zero complaints. I'd buy this sled if I weren't in this industry, no question, it'd be in my garage. ~AJ
My buddy’s Cat and others buddy’s Doo both sound sooooo much better when you turn the key than my 2018 Polaris. Mark mentioned this in one of your videos as well. Have they changed the tin can sound of the electric start on the Matrix or does it still have that marbles in a tin can sound?
So, does this thing have an IGx or a Pro CC??!! I keep hearing it both ways and not sure what to believe? I’m a current 2017 SBA rider and love almost every aspect of it except for the on trail stutter bump ride quality. Had the shocks revalved and that made a definite improvement but, still nowhere near the smoothness of an Rmotion...😔 Yes I understand that they are two totally different skids, I’m just bummed that I can’t get the same ride quality. I heard that the new one was Pro CC and got excited that this sled might be 100% what I want, instead of 95%... Do the Velocity shocks make a significant difference in ride quality?
Indeed it does. I just checked Polaris’ website and, it is in fact an IGx. I’m 99.9% sure that some of the original reports/reviews stated that this sled has a Pro CC, oh well.. Curious to find out how much difference the Velocity’s make?
@@dkopko6498 their site originally said Pro-CC, but that was an error. I have screenshots saying it was Pro-CC and it caused a lot of confusion at first
@@jasonv4hese602 on a 137" it can bridge bumps way better then the 129" in return makeing me faster on the trail. I will never go any shorter then a 137"
I prefer a narrow front end off trail. I would like to see Polaris make the SKS146 in the Matryx Chassis. I have a 2020 Assault, and although it shines on the trail, it just can't side hill like my RMK.
I know guys and girls that ride Ski Doos. I always say you can't go wrong buying y Ski Doo. I, on the other hand, ride a 14 600 switch back assault that handles great. I might not know how to act if I ride on the matryx chassis.
I don't get the pic of little & big dipper or Christmas trees ? Why would they take the time and effort to do that, it's not like I'm going to be looking at them, GGG.
Is the 1.5 ice storm comparable off trail to the 1.6 cobra? I've heard the outside lugs are shorter than the center ones on the 1.5 ice storm so curious how much (if at all) that effects the sled in deeper snow.
Your right, it's a tapered lug, so centre is 1.5 but the other lugs are shorter in the 1.352 range. Not as good off trail as the Cobra 1.6, but on trail it's quite a bit better. ~AJ
Sounds like Walker had the problem there, we haven't seen any issues so it may have been a small problem. I beat on these Velocities and they stuck together real good ~AJ
Yes and no. Parts of the chassis are the same, but parts are different. The base platform is the same, but everything bolted to it, including the entire overstructure are all new and make a BIG difference. Sometimes how you get there is less important than where you end up. And in this case the end result is significantly better than the XC platform. So its worth it.
New spindles, new carbon fiber overstructure, new tunnel, tunnel coolers, cast wider footbox, new wider runningboards, new lights, new gauge, new brake master cylinder, brake lever, parking brake, new handlebars, new gas tank & storage, new 650 engine available.
Was this a special dealer demo sled? It’s not wall papered with warning stickers. I know they are some government requirement, but they ugly up a sled in a hurry. I also wish this came in the Plum/white color scheme.
It was a pre production but I'm not sure if they have more warnings to be put on. I totally agree though, the warning stickers are the worst. Sad thats where we have come to, have to tell folks who will never read a warning not to do things they will do because they are tools, and the rest of us get to reap the wonderful warning label reward......~AJ
My 2019 SBA got stolen because Polaris doesn't install any anti theft devices on there snowmobiles. I lurned the hard way that all you have to do is disconnect the electrical relay (head lights + ignition) and pull the crank and it will start !!! All these gadgets and improuvments are nice but all it's doing is making the snowmobiles more attracting To the thieves. They should install electronic keys like BRP so you can't start them without them. For the rest I love the 850 engine. About the 146 I'm not sure... I was thinking of going 137 for better cornering... or buying a XCR instead of an assault....
did your dealer set up the security system or was it still bypassed.. unfortunately there is a design flaw with the electrical system that can bypass the key switch if security system does not work

What did Polaris do rehire the Engineers from the 90's? They're back on top.
I'm very surprised skidoo hasn't come up with a gauge cluster like this. I think I'm gunna go with Polaris for 21. I'm very excited to choose between I'm tilting towards Polaris.quick question what is the model Polaris in the 137
You don't like the new Ski Doo gauge?
INDY XC 137
They were too busy spending 3yrs and all their R&D budget to make meh gauges and a turbo that 3% of mountain riders will actually buy in the next 2 years. Their turbo is inferior to putting a turbo kit on a machine in nearly every way.
The VR1 comes in either a 129 or 137. There isnt necessarily a different name for it. You just pick the length when you snowcheck it.
Chris Borns Except warranty reliability and you know response time. Once you actually own one you’ll understand kid. Until then, keep your mouth shut
Stupid question why you have a red and gray sticker in front and mine is black and gray (switch back sticker) i want this one. Mhy bad not same body color
Polaris has really improved their fit and finish, they just need more colour options
Hey AJ! I have a 2020 Assault 800 with the PIDD guage package. I like it but it is kinda slow like you said. I am curious if you know if the 2021 gauge package would be compatible on the 2020 sleds? like an after market upgrade so to speak. are they interchangeable?
U say the headlight is awesome??I ordered a 22..normally brp but will b 1st polaris and I've heard the new light sucks
What is your favourite trail in West Yellowstone? When is the last day your team rode there?
I've got a Chevy truck too and was thinking the same thing; 'dang! That screen and setup is awesome!' That's one gripe I have about GM, that infotainment system needs some serious improvement. But I do love the comfort and economy of my 2.8 duramax colorado!
Ive been wanting to get a drive in one of the new 1500's with the little Duramax's in it. I think that'd be a sweet truck.
That's actually a color I'd consider getting. Doo and Poo lacking colors a bit this year. Anybody notice how all reviews--this goes for new motorcycles too--is 1/3 about the tech gauges and features?
anyone know if i can upgrade my current pidd display to that one????? i have a 2017 Switchback Assault 800cc 144
Nope! At least from my research
Super odd roll out for the new display. Not even on the other Matryx models, just the 146. Again, from what I researched 🤷♂️
2 questions. How well does that screen work in -25 weather? How well does it wheelie compared to an 850 backcountry?
I can attest first hand the screen works great at -25. It wheelies great. Didnt have a backcountry to compare it to back to back. Im sure they both wheelie great though.
Is that the coolant fill under the seat?
You be you and we’ll be unimpressed and do the same
Eric Savage Agree I’ve got a 2018 Rush and love it. These new sleds are nice but the price tag WOW! I think I’ll keep my Rush as long as possible.
Thanks!
I'm getting the 1.5 ice storm i have the 2" on my rmk but the 1.5 would be better on the trails
@@dallasdiz11, where do you ride mostly?
Don't listen to the trolls...give your honest opinion, that's good enough for me. I have a 2018 Assault, and it's my fav sled...I just pre-ordered the new Khaos 155 S8/QD2, and am considering picking up an Assault for my daughter.
Thanks Robert! We appreciate your level headed comment! It's refreshing to read. You'll love the Khaos, I can't get Luke off the darn thing ~AJ
Does the display show outside temperature
Long time doo rider. keep up the good reporting, and tell the kool aid drinkers on dootalk to pound sand. They cant take it that Poo is not only coming, they're better in many ways.
Polaris has had and amazing RMK for so many years back when they had the 700 in the early 2000's those sleds were pretty much top of the class
But Polaris is going to get left behind the next time a democrat gets elected and tightens emissions further. The manufacturers need to start perfecting 4-strokes.
Harvey skidoo 2 stroke already beat 4 strike emissions...why go 4 stroke?
Thanks Dawn, appreciate your comment and objective view from another brand. We appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. ~AJ
~AJ
So this video is about seven months old what’s your full thoughts now I’m about to buy a new sled
Really can’t decide which one
I’m a 50/50
How wide is the ski stance?
My buddy’s Cat and others buddy’s Doo both sound sooooo much better when you turn the key than my 2018 Polaris. Mark mentioned this in one of your videos as well. Have they changed the tin can sound of the electric start on the Matrix or does it still have that marbles in a tin can sound?
both my 20's sound great they did change, my 850 xc129 & my 600xc129
Its better, but still not good enough. Its just the sound though, theres no mechanical issues with it. Just noise.
Based on this video it appears to be the IGX
Indeed it does. I just checked Polaris’ website and, it is in fact an IGx. I’m 99.9% sure that some of the original reports/reviews stated that this sled has a Pro CC, oh well.. Curious to find out how much difference the Velocity’s make?
@@dkopko6498 their site originally said Pro-CC, but that was an error. I have screenshots saying it was Pro-CC and it caused a lot of confusion at first
Ok, thank you for that! So I’m not crazy!
tonite there was one at my dealer, correct me if i'm wrong but thought IGX had no torsion springs this 146 had torsion springs ?
Awesome!
was the vr1 129 or 137 his favorite on trail sled?
137" all the way
@@mike420fan thanks for the response. Curious though on the reasoning? Is it mainly for bridging bump benefits with little loss in the twistys?
@@jasonv4hese602 on a 137" it can bridge bumps way better then the 129" in return makeing me faster on the trail. I will never go any shorter then a 137"
Really cool with the display, hope doo does something like that! (not like the lcd screen they have now, more like an improved version)
Didn't think it got any better than the Axys
I prefer a narrow front end off trail. I would like to see Polaris make the SKS146 in the Matryx Chassis. I have a 2020 Assault, and although it shines on the trail, it just can't side hill like my RMK.
But does it slow down time to dodge trees ?
This chassis is gonna change the WHOOOLE GAME. Ski Doo - you've got your work cut out for you!
Had to have one, so ordered a 850, kept my 2020 bcxrs so I can compare next year
Well you've got a couple of sweet rides! Thats a stable full of fun!
@@dirttraxtv yeah looking forward to it..
~AJ
@@dirttraxtv thanks for the info I appreciate it!
Very nice sled I have a 18 assault and considering changing for a snowcheck
When are shootouts starting
I wanted one before they came out this new one. Covids cost me some work tho, maybe next year.
Great review SnowTrax..
Will the body blow apart on the walker velocity’s Like it did on my Kahos? They did replace them both and they been good
Sounds like Walker had the problem there, we haven't seen any issues so it may have been a small problem. I beat on these Velocities and they stuck together real good ~AJ
I got one and is awsome
Not a new chassis. It's an axys with new plastic, shocks and gadgets.
Khakillac 500 That’s right. Oh you forgot a new price tag too.
How much, ,,,?
In a few more years 155 is going to end up being crossover
LoL yeah it would seem it's going in that direction isn't it. Trail riding my short track 174 in 2025 lol
Not a poo or doo guy but that sled is nice...keep up the great work here and on dirt trax
Thanks Cory, we appreciate the comment and taking the time to watch our videos ~AJ
@@snowtrax you're welcome!
I prefer to ride rather than dealing with touch screens.
You don't have to use it, you can ride all you like without it.
Better than xcr or vr1
So what I am hearing is "Snowmobiles don't cost enough as it is please make them more expensive"
It costs like nothing to insure for theft. I'd rather have a sled I know I can pull start anywhere, anytime if needed.
The position of the Keyswitch and keyswitch plug is completely different on this sled. It changes things alot.
did your dealer set up the security system or was it still bypassed.. unfortunately there is a design flaw with the electrical system that can bypass the key switch if security system does not work
Stop with these reviews, I bought a bc xrs last year, love it. Can't afford another 15k sled lol
LoL, sorry Troy. You've still got a great sled though, just don't try anyones 2021 SBA 146, ever........ lol. ~AJ
@@snowtrax well aj, I'm going to find out, just ordered a 850 146 assault
Troy Julius In my opinion after owning both just a year older I still much prefer the rider forward of the doo. But that’s just my style. Have fun out there and stay safe!
Looks like its gonna be a great mtn. Chassis.
Get rid of the razzle dazzle shocks and the gay gauge.
Cant wait to see it in rmk
Can we talk about why Ski Doo owners are so g*d damned SOUR all the time???? Good lord I swear you guys are always complaining about something...
Baddass sled wow. Now I need one lol
maybe someday
Looks like they got rid of the carbon fibre paper towel dispenser for a rear bumper finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
