      catching up? polaris just left the industry in the dust and tiaga isn'teven a real player yet. so i wouldn'tn say catchingup. Mathematically? Those sleds are goingto have to cost $50,000 to keep up with a new 2022 poo. facts don't care about your opinions. do the math on nicad lithium batteries, brushless engine designs, thermal efficiancies ect... its a tough game to play but i don't see them ever paring out letalonecatching up.

    Be extremely curious to see how the batteries do in the cold over the long haul, I know I have had battery issues in Cochrane in February. Very curious to see how it’s goes.

    • @pavmentsurfer13
      @pavmentsurfer13 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Tiaga has developed a proprietary liquid heating/cooling system to keep the batteries at optimal temps. If they get hot, it cools them down. If its really cold out, it warms them up. It works constantly when the sled is plugged in. If you leave the sled in the cold over night NOT plugged in, it will warm the battery up before you use it. Takes about 2 minutes and only uses %2 of your battery.

      Sounds like this would work for local riding , but not practical for long distance riding for a week or two traveling from motel to motel where there are no charging capabilities

    • @themeach011
      @themeach011 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alftrotter468 it charges easily over night on any 110v residential plug in. If u can plug in a block heater u can charge your sled. Plus when u charge at an overnight stop the battery will stay warm and be ready for optimal performance when u head out. Like any ev it's best to preheat the battery when you are plugged in so u don't sacrifice range.

    • @alftrotter468
      @alftrotter468 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven't seen a whole lot of current bushes along the trail or hundreds of available block heater receptacles in places like Matagami or Sept Isles or Hearst. If you have to carry a gas generator to charge it you might just as well stick with a gas engine and then taxpayers won't be expected to pay to charge someone else's machine like cars!!

    • @themeach011
      @themeach011 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alftrotter468 it definitely makes no sense if u have to bring a generator lol. If you plan to go for days in the middle of nowhere it's not going to be an option. I'm not sure what portion of the snowmobiling public would be sledding for days and staying at places with no power but I would guess it's probably a fairly small percentage and I'd be happy to pay an extra couple bucks to the hotel to plug in for the night even though they let you plug your truck in for free when it's cold and this will only use about 1$ more power a night than your truck does when it's plugged in. Sledding mecas will catch on when more and more sleds become electric and I can see that they will want to install plugs for people so they will attract a larger clientele to their hotel. It only makes sense that if these become more popular then the services to use them will improve as well. Not going to happen over night

    “SHAWINIGAN and MONTREAL, March 26, 2021
    Taiga, a leader in off-road vehicle electrification, has announced plans to build a mass production plant in Shawinigan, Quebec. The first phase of construction, slated for completion in 2022, represents an investment to accelerate mass production of snowmobiles, personal watercraft and side-by-side vehicles slated for 2022.”
    “This facility, a part of the $185M in recently announced funding, will bolster Taiga into becoming a globally leading OEM for powersports vehicles,” said Samuel Bruneau, CEO of Taiga. “We have seen strong customer demand limited by product availability. This new facility shows Taiga’s continued commitment to be trailbreakers and offer electric vehicles capable of diving mass-market adoption without compromise.”

It must of been a hard step for you to learn all this new technology. On the charger part, your comment was pretty accurate except i would of add that the CCS Port it's called, is separated into two categories, one is AC current for home and small chargers. And the bottom two pins is the DC fast chargers so for 50 KW chargers.

    I began snowmobiling in the mid 70's, I recall all the negativity about oil injection, cuz I bought one of those Yamaha pups. All my riding buddies expected it to Blow up on those cold days. It didn't. Always hard to inject a new concept in any industry. Besides the range and cost there are two killers for myself. First thing - No pull start!! (HeHE) well that'll take gettin used to. 2nd - That beautiful rumble of the 800's coming to life, the smell of that great exhaust left on my snowmobile suit, giving that up? Well thats where I draw the line. I might as well go back to cross country skiing.

    • @themeach011
      @themeach011 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Charging infrastructure isn't really that important unless you are wanting to ride several hundred kms a day. If it does 140 kms on a charge and u can plug it in over night to a 110v plug then that will be good enough for me. It will also charge in 2 hours on a 220v plug and 20 mins at an ev fast charger. I think most people think they ride further than they do but if you are a 300kms a day guy then it's not the sled for you at this time.

    So here is a thought. Right now a snowmobile has CVT and your lucky if 60% of that makes it to the chaincase. Without a clutch in these the 120hp version on these should be similar to the 800 class sleds out now.

    This was a good intro, but I’m really looking forward to a ride review. As you said, this entire sled is all new from a brand new manufacturer. « It feels and rides great » is just really broad. A full review on the GoPro while riding would be great. To hear it « running » and to talk about responsiveness, handling and suspension as you’re actually experiencing it. It’s necessary because many of us won’t have a chance to test ride this thing for a long long time.

    Thanks for the info Luke. It’s an interesting concept but the deal breaker for most will be range which I didn’t hear you mention. Are the range specs available? Unless there is an entire power grid built in remote areas of the all provinces for trail riders and deep in the backcountry for the mountain riders I don’t see this technology taking off. Guess you can carry a 3000W generator strapped on the back to recharge along the way but that kind of defeats the purpose of an EV. Oh well power in North America is mostly from coal and natural gas so might as well keep burning gas. This will great for short distance riders but won’t suit the high mileage or mountain riding crowd.

    Cool unit. Electric is exciting. The new Hummer EV truck is a good example. Decent range & huge power. Love the color of this sled. Overall look...so, so. It won’t trump an SRX on looks. Who is Taiga’s parent co/funding? I assume government/taxpayer involvement to some extent if only in an incentive basis. What is range (generally)? A snowmobile has a few different dynamics that an auto. Charging stations particularly in remote rural areas will be an issue. Mountain areas also. I’m not too worried about starting & other cold weather concerns. It wasn’t long ago when naysayers (incl a couple OEM’s) said a 4Stroke would never work in a snowmobile. Electric definately has a place tho & it’s exciting to see where it’s going.
