Hi , I just subscribed to your channel a couple of days ago. I had a driving lesson today and my instructor told me the only thing holding me back from taking the test is my understanding of the layout of roundabouts. I think this is because all of them are so different and I get confused if it's only one lane, do you count that as an exit , and what you actually count as exits, because I know they say count the exits but to me all of them don't look like exits especially if it's only one lane by itself . Any suggestions? Because there's not always a 2 way exit, sometimes you'll have just one Lane to use. So do you count every single road as an exit
Yes, I'm OK with slowing down from further back in order to read the road ahead, and I know how to use the lanes for which exits, and how to come off and which signal to use etc. My problem is the layout of the actual roundabout, and knowing which roads are exits, because they look like roads on their own. I'm from the USA and we don't have roundabouts, so I basically have to learn this from scratch and remove previous habits in order to get my UK licence, I find these roundabouts a pain in the backside, LOL
Appreciate this video, a lot of roundabout videos on TH-cam but they almost always cover the basics. Nice to have someone go into more depth. Never actually knew there were so many different types of roundabouts.
Thank you. I have a new roundabout video coming out in a couple of weeks focused on what to do when in the wrong lane. Good luck with your driving and thank you for your comment
Learn-to-drive Travis appreciate it, have just got myself a car and will be driving again after passing my test last year from next week so will defo find these vids useful
You are the man. I have been watching your videos from that my instructor thinks that I am not a new learner. Your videos are very instructive and easy to understand unlike others videos in youtube. Thank you very much.
@@JamesTravis thank you 😊, Just to double check cause I'm a bit confused, when doing a pull to the left, and after all the observations i don't se any car coming and no people in the road,do i need to signal to the left? My instructor says no.
Great stuff James, it's good to get extra advice along with my own driving instructor. Quick question - if you're driving along with someone behind you, and there is parked cars on your left, do you signal for every parked car to benefit that person behind you or not?
@@JamesTravis Really? See i would have thought that you'd use a quick signal to let them know that you're going to overtake , otherwise they might get impatient and try to overtake you
Are you able to do a video on how to read directions/signs properly and how to understand them, as in the ones I would need to know for the independent drive when asked to follow the signs to somewhere. Driving has been quite a roller coaster ride for me with having had bad experiences with instructors and I finally have the perfect one however it meant my confidence got messed around with a lot and I have my first test next month so really just need all the guidance I can get! Thank you! :)
I sometimes hesitate at roundabouts too much, I always like to wait for a really long clear gap, ratehr than chancing a gap that arrives, need help on that...Unrelated but is bay parking on the test? My instructor teaches me it, but says it's only turn in road, parallel park or reverse around a corner that will be picked..
Kobi Lynx hi, bay park is on the uk driving test. With the roundabouts, go back to less busy ones and get good at them, reading the traffic before moving on to busy ones.
Is it something they always test you on, or is that on of the manoeuvres they pic? Also when i parallel park or reverse around corners,I was taught to use a clutch and break, to keep the car at a slow pace....Is this correct and do you have any videos on slow reversing skills with pedals...Cheers..
Hello James, thanks for the videos. I took my driving test today and failed with 4 serious faults, all of them silly mistakes i could have avoided. One of them was for blocking the road when stopping at a que of traffic lights turning right, 2 of them were mirrors and observations seriouses at a roundabout that i had no idea was there, it was unnoticeable. My last was for forgetting to rejoin the left hand lane after overtaking on a dual carriageway. I am really gutted and also now really nervous for my next test on the 5th of july. My manouevres are fine and my driving is normally good I just capitulated on the test and made silly errors, was wondering if you had any advice over what to do from here? Not being able to drive is really impacting me negatively as I was very keen to be driving in time for the summer but it doesnt look like it will be that way anymore! :(
+_w_ebber hi, sorry to hear about your mistakes on your driving test. The positive side is you know what they are and you can improve and avoid them in the future. Practice and get yourself back in for your next test. Good luck
I think it's at the examiner's discretion, if there is traffic behind you it could be a serious, if its clear behind you and you roll back ever so slightly then that would be a harsh faliure. People roll back slightly everyday in the real world because you go straight from the footbrake to the gas quickly, so it would be harsh.
Reiids i was always taught to go to handbrake to stop the roll. prepare the clutch and the revs then release brake to move forward without any roll. but that was just to stop a failure or anything
Matt On your lessons/test? That's fair enough. After you pass your test though everybody basically just uses the footbrake, get the bite and then switch from your brake to gas pedal. But when you drive regularly in your own car you'll find the bite in a second if that. You probably already know this though lol. Have you passed or still doing lessons?
How do I know when it's safe to pull onto the roundabout? this is something I always am unsure of as I don't know what others are doing or when it's safe?
If you are struggling then you firstly need to practice on quiet roundabouts to see what the other cars are doing. Then when you understand then start on busy ones.
I'm confused as to what to do when going straight at the round about in case the left lane is only going left, and you can't spot road paintings because there is too much traffic? Spottin the road paintings works only when its not too busy. Is there going to be a sign before hand telling me which lane 2 be in apart from road markings? Also, great tutorials I love watching them as It's very clear and straightforward!
+Dorottya Fekete Shodeinde if you are put in a situation of finding yourself in the wrong lane, then to be safe, go where the lane is asking you to go to, just remember to mirror and signal that way.
I think a good video would be 'The life of a driving instructor' because I think there is a good number of people who would like to be a driving instructor that includes me. Just an idea for a video. :)
Say the 2nd exit is all the way to the right and there are no markings, would this still be followed in the left lane, to the outside of the aroundabout
This is common to miss the sign whilst on a roundabout. As you get better at your driving and position the signs get easier to spot. Another option could be you the speed on the roundabout. You could be going a bit too fast to control and spot the signs.
My general driving is good but for some reason when im on major roaundabouts I have no idea wer im streering, it's like im all over the place! I really need help my instructor is helping me overcome this problem but it seems like I just can't do it right
Subscribing helps me make more videos, thank you

Thank you very much. The information that you give is helping me out a lot. So thank you again.

very helpful video thanks my test is next month. your all videos are nicely understand. xx
This is all very well and good unless there's cars stopped on the lane markings
And that’s why I failed😅😅
passed first time today with 1 minor|! thanks for all of the help!
+JackHackneyTv excellent result.
Thanks l passed my test ur video is easy to be understanding
Congratulations
7:39 if we go to the middle line is it a fault in the test?
No. Just be checking mirrors and signal if you decide to change lanes afterwards

Hi, if there are no road markings at the roundabout what lane should you be in?
Ona standard roundabout with 4 exits. 2 lanes on roundabout.
Left side will usually go ahead or left and right side would go right.

very helpful video - thanks
Say the 2nd exit is all the way to the right and there are no markings, would this still be followed in the left lane, to the outside of the aroundabout
+Ash I would probably use right lane. But it is one of those situations that as you approach a roundabout you would access and make a judgement call.
help! I struggle seeing the speed limit sign because I'm too busy trying to get the position right on the roundabouts???!!
This is common to miss the sign whilst on a roundabout. As you get better at your driving and position the signs get easier to spot.
Another option could be you the speed on the roundabout. You could be going a bit too fast to control and spot the signs.
8:22 3 points on the license there for the bus driver!
Filter left.
No because it went Amber, then Red. The left turn filter arrow goes on from Red before Amber for traffic going straight.
@@collinslfc but there was no filter Lane, plus it looked like he went straight ahead lol

hate roundabouts lol
