Great stuff, Paul, and several excellent points made. I believe it was not meant to be a bad plugin IF there wasn't something out there already released by Waves previously, so yes, money-grabber and that's it. I use the SSL Native plugins -and I do have some PA and Waves plugins too (but I don't use their EQs and compressors, because having the SSL Native ones would make me look stupid if I used Waves/PA for that purpose, I believe). Thanks for the review!!!
It's the only subscription I pay for now. Scrapped the slate one 2 weeks ago. Dunno why I was paying it for years when I genuinely hadn't used a plugin in like over a year 🙈

Cheers, I'll probably need it some day haha 🤜🤛 Tbh can see a few attempted takedowns in the future if I keep showing what they don't want others to see but tbh you've got to take the good with the bad. I have thousands of people who appreciate me and my work but also have a small group of guys that really dislike me and would really like to see me crumble like a pastry. They are mostly on forums where they hide behind user names and Internet anonymity but it's whether a few big names that actually pose a threat get involved. Especially on youtube it may come to a head at some point where somebody tries to take me down and I've got to stand firm and take a few blows but we'll see. I would like to be positive all the time but I'm a skeptic by nature. I always need to test boundaries and ask certain questions. The whole 'keep everyone happy' thing just isn't me. It's not in my bones 🤣
It’s actually a free upgrade if you already bought the old ssl bundle. They don’t make it obvious but I did it the other night. I also have the ik multimedia, bx, and the native ssl versions. I’ve never used any of them including this one.
@@PaulThird yes! I’d saw the “hope your doing marvelously well” guy mention it on another vid, and it says so on the waves site, but it’s still not obvious, you just gotta download the plug-in, (careful not to click on that upgrade plan nightmare), and your waves central thingy will know that ya already purchased the original. I opened the plug and switched the brown thing on so I know it there.
See I got confused as it says "Get SSL EV2 free if you own the SSL 4000, Studio Classics, Pro Show or SD7 Pro Show bundles covered by the Waves Update Plan." Its the covered by the waves update plan bit that got me
Not if you bought the old bundle, only if you´d also paid the WUP. Which I have. So if anyone wants my SSL 400 COllection with 1 year´s WUP, I´m up for selling.
This video made me see a lot of you tubers in a new light. All are so ready to jump on the shiny new toy. And if you watch their videos you’d think this emulation is amazing.
Tbh its a risk doing what I do. You have to be ready to take a bit of shit where it is a much easier option to do the safe review thing. Show the features, look at face value, do a few examples on a few sources with no comparison.. Job done.. Hardly any backlash. Viewers leave with an impartial option. I just choose not to do it where possible. There are times when I don't really have a direct competitor for the plugin I'm looking at but I still give my honest unbiased opinion. TH-cam's hard as for many including myself it helps or fully pays the bills. Some get lured by the money as they get bigger, some smaller channels like the free plugins and being chummy with the developers and others just don't have the balls to rock the boat. I can't pin the blame solely on the youtubers as its how you pay the bills at the end of the day. I got crap for the accents and characters on this video by a few people now but I knew I needed to do it for better watch time as the subject was too dense to keep viewers attention for a longer view duration. I played the YT algorithm and it worked in my favour with a high watch time which in turn gets me more ad revenue which helps pay for the girls Christmas. You do what you need to do but I will admit I have shown that you can be brutally honest and transparent and still get good views, retention and devs wanting you to look at their plugin. Problem is they target many youtube channels early on so they get them on side before they really start to grow and they have another marketing pawn in the TH-cam game. Same with beta testers. Makes many feel privileged and gives them a strong connection to the plugin which 9 times out of 10 turns into positive reviews upon release. Many many tactics are used for TH-cam and social media. I just choose not to comply haha
@@PaulThird you can't account for the weird dialects spoken across the Atlantic. I have lived in Thailand for 20 odd years and everyone in my immediate circle regardless of nationality knows what a brew is. (Some places have the posh tea tampon style, avoid). Brews with the minimum of steeping, get some in yer belly.
That was my exact same question earlier to you about the plugin alliance ssl...the EQ settings do not match up in plugin Doctor. I mean...it's not off by a bit...it's off by A LOT! I almost wanna send you a screenshot of what I'm talking about. But I know you were talking about the old ssl and the new ssl plugin curves matching.
Great video mate, love the humour amongst the seriousness of this issue with Waves update plan and their sneaky marketing, by giving away free plugins (this year) which they then go and want you to pay for the update later... Caught me the first time round about 8 years ago, haven't updated since all still working fine... Keep up the great reviews!
You’re hilarious Paul and very informative. I think you should consider a side gig in stand up comedy. Seriously! Thanks for answering all my questions about the ‘new and improved’ Waves SSL. Unbelievable and just as I suspected. WUP! WUP!
Barbara? Must be Windsor... what a carry on!! 😄 It wasn't that long ago that I was speculating that some plugin companies are recycling their plugins with new GUIs - thanks for proving my theory!
Saved me $29 bucks today and I’ll buy something else to complement retro fi, and grab the original SSL E because I do hear great things about it. Luckily waves update plan doesn’t mess with windows users as hard. All my plugins from v9 on still work fine
Another great gear test video. I love this humor in it. This makes it even more unique. When I heard about the new EV2 plugin I immeadiately thought, "what will paul third say about this new plugin?" I should better check before buy. And I did. I am thankful that you prevented me from wasting 39 €.
Well done mate . Exactly as I suspected. I held fire on upgrading as i saw through the marketing Bs I stopped using Waves a while back as there are plenty of better developers out there now. Currently learning/using Fuse audio labs VCS-1 as my channel strip. Again well done 👍🏼
Thank you for one of the most informative and entertaining reviews I've ever had the pleasure of watching; you really nailed it. I'm dating myself here but, for those in the know, this video review is reminiscent of the scene in The Wizard of OZ where Dorothy and Co. made it to the Emerald City to see the Great and Powerful OZ and Toto pulls back the curtain. Paul, you're the Best !!
It crossed my kind 😂 I think that would get in the way of ssl's xsaturator though. Tbf the CLA echo plugin was a pretty good free plugin so id like to think it will be decent but I have an inkling some engineer or abbey road will be attached to it somehow..
I had to bring in the side harmonics.. Honestly there are guys going across the Internet saying I made up the term side harmonics 🤣 If you have different harmonics left and right then the difference will go into your side channel.. Side harmonics!!!! Hahaha Honestly there are guys saying there is no mid side in stereo... 🙈
@@PaulThird really? Where do you find these people? 😂. We are living in a time where you can EQ transient and tonal information separately. Mid/side is practically old school at this point. 😊
Thanks for this enlightening analysis. I bought it (and even as a v1 user, paid $39 not $29.99 for some reason) because I thought it sounded better, and after Warren Huart gave some very useful tips for using the plugin in his review of it. I updated the WUP for $200, too, while I was at it, as I have nearly all of their plugins. Oddly use few of them though, really, and probably will rarely use this one either. So, yeah. 😵💫
LMAO, when I saw this "new plugin" come out I couldn't wait for Sir Bobs review. I must say, this is a hell of a lot better than I expected. His review is better than the plugin itself. And just in time for Waves "Black Friday" rip off, I mean sale. I no longer use Waves plugins "except the 10 or 20 I already got suckered into" and out of those I only use 3 or 4. And I will not WUP them up. You can truly find free plugins that are actually better. So quit buying a name and be sure that what you are buying is what you need.
Your vibe when talking about waves at the end of the video is the vibe of a wife that was beaten and thought that is life, but suddenly found out not all husbands beat their wives and is now especially angry. Not just because she was beaten, but because she fell for a wife-beater. However the rest of the video was really funny. I'm glad we have you, Paul. You sure are a character.. but it's good to have you!
Good stuff Paul. Im done with waves after 20 years of supporting them...get this.. my daw was damaged by lightning, got a temp replacement and had no choice but to 'recover' my licenses (365 day wait til next). Just finished a new daw build, restored licenses in a minute or so with everyone...except waves who demanded a list eg reasons why i need another recovery, receipts for new computer and need to pay wup on my licenses (v11)...nearly 2 weeks later and still nothing sorted. WARNING, KEEP AWAY FROM WAVES COERCIVE AND ARCHAIC SOFTWARE AND APPALLING CUSTOMER SERVICE. I am migrating my most important bits to brainworx...krauts know what they are.doing...no more ssl after discovering the vxs console...now THAT is more like it!!!
Very Amusing. I’ve used one SSL or another virtually every week for the last 40 years. Even owned one. SSL possess tbd hubris often acquired when a company runs a virtual monopoly in their given business sector. Before every cries, ‘ what about Neve?’ Well what about them? The ratio of Neve to SSL consoles is about 5:1 in SSL’s favor. Without going into detail I have witnessed tbd company’s hubris first hand. Some T the company really think they are the be all and end all of recording technology.
Well done, Paul, Steve, Dave, whoever! I've had the same issue with Waves. I'm expected to pay nearly 300 for their Wupgrade con! I've also had to delete all the old versions because of issues in Cubase. So the HUNDREDS of pounds I've spent, counts for nothing,. Thanks, Waves. P.S. I'll be Waving goodbye. I suggest you do the same. Nice one, Paul.
Same here. I use Rbass sometimes and for some reason haven't found a comparable plugin that does the same. But I will. Most plugins are blacked out in Cubase. Made the horrible mistake to use an old CLA comp on a track this week. Spent a morning opening the Cubase project that crashed 7 times on opening (crash report stating Waves as the culprit). I think every person goes through a phase at first thinking more and newer plugins will make your mixing better (cause they have different presets that might magically work on a particular track). Waves is awesome for that market when you collect 29euro plugins. And then the bill comes later. I was stunned that first time.
This is why they say that hardware is worth it. Doesn't become obsolete, retains value or increases in value. That's why the access analog stuff you recently reviewed is so powerful. Mix with what you have to get an idea of what settings you will like then rent a few pieces for a few hours and boom !
Nice video! Thanks! On the other hand, I still don't understand why Waves won't put there a simple parametric EQ instead of those fancy life-like knobs? I understand this is a "nice" HW emulation, but HW knobs are taylored for tweaking by fingers (with both hands simultaneously), not by mouse. Turning only one knob at a time to set up an EQ in the 2022 plugin is a bit outdated. Am I crazy?
That sketch was awesome! I'd say less is more... For real people don't need millions sounds and sounds don't need million process unfortunately in this world it's only about that $$$hit
The best thing to come out of their SSL EV2 Channel release was Warren Huart's tutorial on how to use SSL EQ and Dynamics. I implemented his training on my SSL Native Channel Strip 2 instead and WOWW!! I've begun moving over to Hardware bit by bit because I was becoming frustrated with some Plugins I own. I am concerned, in some cases, they are a money grab. I was always suspicious of the Waves release. Looks like I was right.
That's the best way is to learn from guys who are used to the SSL sound... Or 'perfectly tuned to the family sound' as the vice president likes to put it haha Warren's been using his desk for a very long time so he knows it inside out 🤓
Yeah I really dig Warren too. What sets him apart from all others, especially on TH-cam, is the plethora of people he has actually worked with during his career, that actually sold albums, across multiple genres versus the one trick ponies from blokes no one has ever heard of nor made it into the industry at any point. What I also like about Warren is he started out in hardware solely but does some hybrid works as well. I much prefer gear, but use "some" plugins as well although I dream of having an actual console. Just waiting for the lottery winnings or the inheritance from a distant relative that I never knew I had. Cheers.
@@PurpleMusicProductions I had 2 consoles. It was like owning a super yacht with a hole in the bottom. I'll take a side car of pre amps, some eq's, and a Tegeler Creme over a console any day of the week.
I thought you'd like this NEW Waves plug. I think Steve will fit in well at Waves....though I suspect he may move elsewhere as a contractor or some such......(here's hoping). Thanks for this, other TH-camrs who should know better have promoted it heavily (not that I thought you would).
@@Kawin_ShivaSoman i'm not a huge waves fan, but if i had no choice but to mix with Waves, i'd insert Scheps Omni on every channel and SSL Bus Comp on the master. Will work for any song.
11 funny minutes in, the crux of the argument: it’s just a less good Mixhub. Thank you for clearing this up! You’re the bad boy of audio, appreciate ya Woop woop
Hey, Paul! Easily one of my favorite channels. I’m curious- as someone who owns waves SSL E and G channel, as well as their new V2 and Brainworx 4000E- which 1 would you choose if your goal was to avoid aliasing/cramping and have the “biggest”/cleanest sound?
Couldn't agree more! Fuck waves in the neck! The upgrade plan is a racket! Everyone else in the plug-in world is trying to improve or at the very least doing more than waves right now. Great video as awesome 🤘
OK, generally I agree with you. The WUP is a rort. There is one good reason for not updating the existing E-channel plugin though and that's backwards compatibility when you open old sessions. Many engineers (me included) would rather a separate plugin in this situation than to change the behaviour of an existing one that is across hundreds or thousands of existing sessions. Even fixing the EQ cramping would have an effect on the sound of an old session opened up. Sure they could do it with an additional "use old broken mode" switch to maintain the same behaviour but in many cases that's just a headache. That said, I do agree with you entirely about the seeming lack of real innovation and the hefty "subscription by stealth" thing of the WUP. And I love the roleplaying exposé! I really wonder how Bob is going after walking out. Maybe he'll start his own boutique guitar pedal company...
That is a pretty good point tbf about compatibility, never thought about that. Really they could have just added another analog option in mixbus and that was your upgrade haha BTW Bob just came back as Barbara refused to leave 🤣
Good plugins. They had one of the best devs in Reymund until he left. Low cpu for the most part. Internal oversampling in the bx stuff. TMT was a good idea as well as the integration of the mono maker, stereo width and stuff. They work hard and their plugin subscription is second to none in my opinion and I still pay into it haha I don't use as much as I used to and I'm still waiting for my £250 voucher thing but they put the customer first in my opinion. New plugins released all the time, free updates, ability to buy plugins one by one via vouchers and they've now got the pop up shop where they get plugs at lower discounts. I still remember when they first started the subscription plan. Pretty sure I was one of the early adopters cause I always had my eye on their stuff. Been a LONG time subscriber anyway Me and dirk don't always agree but he's still pretty respectful towards me and I respect that as other CEO's won't even talk to me haha
When I listen to this it remind me of those important quotes in life “Hey rentboy, gev mein a cigaarrrrt.” And “that lass got glassed and no on leaves till we knaw what kunt didit.”
This perfectly encapsulates how and why I've been pirating the waves catalog for ages. Should I ever win a grammy I WILL do the right thing and give them what they charge other grammy winners 😝
Have you ever been able to test the slate plugins? I used to use their SSL EQ a lot (so much that I wound up buying the 500 series version of it--which is very nice).
I used to use a lot of slate but stopped. I only stopped paying the sub 2 weeks ago as I realised I hadn't used their plugs in over a year. I can't really even tell you why tbh as they are pretty good but I found other alternatives. When I did a really early ssl comparison I found the slate ssl to be very close to acustica sand. Slates problem is that I feel the plugs miss a lot of features that the others have, especially the SSL eq
As a current Waves SSL E-Channel owner I was intrigued by the release of the EV2. However after reading the EV2 CPU complaints and still meddling with the Waves update garbage, I said screw it and went with the Brainworx version during the Black Friday sale.
Best feature is focus mode for the eq. The cpu load is bonkers on V2 with no advantage over original SSL E. They should just add eq focus mode to the original ssl e as a free upgrade.
@@PaulThird hit the speaker tab above the hi eq bell tab then click on eq band frequency knob and it focuses the eq on whatever hz the freq knob is on. You can scroll the frequency while that frequency is isolated or focused. Mix hub has it and it’s brilliant! Best feature in the plug in and no one discusses it not even waves
I started using some waves plug ins last year. Now however I'm being bugged for this update plan which frankly isn't cool. 100% agree with you and I now look elsewhere if I feel the need for a plug in and theres some great sounding free ones and some great less know developers who make great products. Waves lost me over this update plan and it's business model. Great video Paul. Thanks for your honesty. Its refreshing.
Excellent, spot-on and very entertaining. I didn't run any tests but apart from the brown knob option - which BTW the brainworx E-channel has always had - my ears told me there's no real difference . . . the CLA is superior with the 1176 option, compressor mix control and extensive sidechain EQ, not to mention the buckets. As for Waves' 'whoops' . . . a sick business model from a company that should know better. Thanks Paul!
Man I love it! Love your honesty and the rant because they deserve every bit of it. That´s why they don´t get any dollar from me. I can´t use Vocal Rider and the Greg Wells vocal thing etc any more. You´ve said it all in your rant. I could go into politics now and bring in some historical cliche behavior but that´s not the place for it...
I am not a big fan of yours Paul but I gotta say I really like that Bob guy. Can you please have him on more often. Thanks Bob you saved me some money I almost fell for Waves trick.
Depends if you want more THD but if it was me and I had to choose between original e, ev2 and Mixhub I'd choose Mixhub all day long as ev2 has identifical compression and width functions, the EQ curves can be matched and you also have the 1176 comp option as well as the buckets so the workflow is way better and overall offers more. Ev2 is slightly more Harmonically rich out the bat but offers less than Mixhub If it's original vs ev2 then depends on if you want a cleaner ssl compared to a more Harmonically rich ssl. I'd go for ev2 over the original but being honest I'd go for brainworx if I was to chose an ssl channel strip plugin. personally I like their 9000j as it offers the TMT, optional thd as well as the option of the 4000E curves
LOL, just looking at the thumbnail/title of this video. hahahaha I feel the same. I sure could work with wvaes plugs though. I'd make a decent recording with just about anything these days. But i agree with you 100% haha
I stopped using ssl emulations from third party companies when Ssl native plugins were updated and released. The ssl native channel strip and bus comp are the best. And.....they have 40 years of background only with the name.
You really made me laugh hard with this one Paul Third. Brilliant video, very funny and honest. Steve character was so hilarious and that Bob character asking the right questions and points pissing Steve off, oh man LOL priceless :) It was genius making a good point with funny characters . As fun as this video was the message came trough, completely agree about Waves cynical business model. I have the Cla MixHub and i like it because of the buckets, not planning on buying anything else Waves though. So many devs are making so damn good digital plugins these days that we certainly dont need to be Wuped This video led me to the decision to become a member of your channel :) Wup Wup Wup :)
Best accent on TH-cam. With distance. My first thought was ... ok, Liverpool. This accent reminds me of Peter Gill of FGTH in the 80s when he asked for a "65 Corvette Stingray" as a Christmas present on a recording. Similar accent ...? 🤔 Then I saw "Scotland" in your info. Agree with you mostly. But paying for updates is not wrong. We do it with izotope, slate, fabfilter, etc. Not many companies have free updates. Acustica is kind of a one of a kind in many ways.
I'm not used to paying for updates haha ddmf and stuff actually give you a notification on doctor and metaplugin to tell you there's a new version. NoiseAsh, baby audio, kit, wavesfactory and most of the new devs give free upgrades. But you are right not all do it. For me a new paid upgrade would need to really be a vast improvement but I suppose that's where the subscription plans benefit as you forget that you get the updates cause your paying monthly but tbh if it's just bug fixes and really small changes you shouldn't pay anything To give izotope their due rx9 was a very big jump especially with the whole seperate elements from tracks and stuff
@@PaulThird yes waves is taking it one step further, bringing no updates and just fees. Its crazy they charge for L1 still after 25 years with no updates!! Fabfilter brings a heck of a lot with their paid updates, and those cost like a waves plug on sale!! Hahaha. (Check the new Volcano 3 out. Its now both a creative tool and an eq with optional saturation per band. Really cool!)
Say what? IK Multimedia, Softube, Eventide, Pulsar, PA... all free updates. And iZotope has free updates too, what you are referring to is an upgrade.. that's different. That's when they come out with a whole new suite. And that's just naming the big ones. I don't think I own plugins from a single company that doesn't give free updates, aside from my waves-plugins - which I never update (and tbh, the ones I use don't even need upgrading ). Well maybe soundtoys.. I don't know, I never checked for updates there. I bought a couple of their plugins when soundtoys was the big hype, but aside from the decapitator I barely ever use any.
Apart from 8K the EV2 defaults to different frequencies than the original E. That surely must be worth $29? Your WUP WUP had me in stiches. It almost made all my years of WUP pain worth it!
@@PaulThird Paul, music technology can be so frustrating. Thank you for bringing some much needed humour into it and enlightening some us along the way too. Oh and I owe you a drink. I was rushing off to buy the EV2 plugin when I happened to see your video and abruptly put my wallet away. I proceeded to shoot out all 7 of my SSL plugins and told myself the madness had to stop. I've got Mix Hub and SAND, probably two of the best, so I really don't need an 8th SSL plugin even if it is only $29. All those $29 purchases soon add up to $1000s. I know I've counted.

Tbh can see a few attempted takedowns in the future if I keep showing what they don't want others to see but tbh you've got to take the good with the bad.
So it's nothing to do with the update plan? If you have the old ssl bundle out of the update plan they'll still give you a free upgrade?
@@PaulThird yes! I’d saw the “hope your doing marvelously well” guy mention it on another vid, and it says so on the waves site, but it’s still not obvious, you just gotta download the plug-in, (careful not to click on that upgrade plan nightmare), and your waves central thingy will know that ya already purchased the original. I opened the plug and switched the brown thing on so I know it there.
See I got confused as it says
"Get SSL EV2 free if you own the SSL 4000, Studio Classics, Pro Show or SD7 Pro Show bundles covered by the Waves Update Plan."
Its the covered by the waves update plan bit that got me
Not if you bought the old bundle, only if you´d also paid the WUP. Which I have. So if anyone wants my SSL 400 COllection with 1 year´s WUP, I´m up for selling.
Why own all of those if you never use them????
@@PaulThird For sure. Loved the video. No right or wrong way to be in this world, just the one that’s right for you.
Brilliant, as someone who is often that northern bloke at those meetings I feel seen.
Every business needs a northern bloke like yourself!! I wonder if many non UK guys will get the brew comment 😂
@@PaulThird you can't account for the weird dialects spoken across the Atlantic. I have lived in Thailand for 20 odd years and everyone in my immediate circle regardless of nationality knows what a brew is. I have a steady supply of Yorkshire or Barry's Tea however I have recently discovered a new wonder tea, Diplomat, you can get it in Aldi and it's proper strong.
🤓🤓
I don't know what I just watched. This video is both great and disturbing! LOL!!! Good job Pauly
🤓🤓
Comedy gold! Thanks Paul, great channel.
🤓🤓
Absolutely hilarious buddy!! Fantastic video Paul!
🤓🤓
Bro. This goes hard. Appreciate the accent and the humor! I might be way off but this reminds me of Trainspotting.
Don't think there was any cockneys or Yorkshire accents in trainspotting haha not that I can remember anyway 😅

🤓🤓
Big facts. 🙏🙏🙏
Another great gear test video. I love this humor in it. This makes it even more unique.
When I heard about the new EV2 plugin I immeadiately thought, "what will paul third say about this new plugin?" I should better check before buy. And I did. I am thankful that you prevented me from wasting 39 €.
🤜🤛
Well done mate .
Exactly as I suspected. I held fire on upgrading as i saw through the marketing Bs
I stopped using Waves a while back as there are plenty of better developers out there now.
Currently learning/using Fuse audio labs VCS-1 as my channel strip.
Again well done 👍🏼
🤓🤓
Thank you for one of the most informative and entertaining reviews I've ever had the pleasure of watching; you really nailed it. I'm dating myself here but, for those in the know, this video review is reminiscent of the scene in The Wizard of OZ where Dorothy and Co. made it to the Emerald City to see the Great and Powerful OZ and Toto pulls back the curtain. Paul, you're the Best !!
🤓🤓
Wouldn’t it be hilarious if the free plugin they are planning to give away is just the harmonics from this new SSL packaged as a saturation knob…?
Lol
Just the side harmonics though….. 😉
Honestly there are guys going across the Internet saying I made up the term side harmonics 🤣
If you have different harmonics left and right then the difference will go into your side channel.. Side harmonics!!!! Hahaha
Honestly there are guys saying there is no mid side in stereo...
So, yeah. 😵💫
I'd definitely get in touch and tell them so you can at least get a refund for the $10 🤓
me: Sneezes
Mate: Have you got Covid?
me: Nah, i'm allergic to bullshit.
Haha I think the amount of BS this year must have taken its toll on me. Sick for 9 days 🤣
🙌🙌🙌
Your vibe when talking about waves at the end of the video is the vibe of a wife that was beaten and thought that is life, but suddenly found out not all husbands beat their wives and is now especially angry. Not just because she was beaten, but because she fell for a wife-beater.
However the rest of the video was really funny. I'm glad we have you, Paul. You sure are a character.. but it's good to have you!
🤓🤓
All money money money with waves. No emphasis on customer retention whatsoever

Barbara & Dave need to become part of the lore. No way back now.
The love triangle nobody asked for 😂
Very Amusing.
I have heard a lot about elitism and that's just from guys reaching out to me
Your essex wideboy accent is pretty good. Excellent vintage tone, does it have virtual lundahl transformers? Class A drug habit? (Sniff and jab).
Probably the wife watching too much towie back in the day. Seeped in somehow 🤣
🤜🤛
Am I crazy?
Tbh It's purely because fancy hardware like gui's sell
@@PaulThird I just don't get it and I am confused... Did you get it, Barbra? I I I don't...

Or 'perfectly tuned to the family sound' as the vice president likes to put it haha
Warren's been using his desk for a very long time so he knows it inside out 🤓
Yeah I really dig Warren too.
Cheers.

Hey, Paul! Easily one of my favorite channels. I’m curious- as someone who owns waves SSL E and G channel, as well as their new V2 and Brainworx 4000E- which 1 would you choose if your goal was to avoid aliasing/cramping and have the “biggest”/cleanest sound?
Any of them. SSLs are notoriously clean so aliasing in the plugins shouldn't be an issue
Couldn't agree more! Fuck waves in the neck! The upgrade plan is a racket! Everyone else in the plug-in world is trying to improve or at the very least doing more than waves right now. Great video as awesome 🤘
🤙🤙🤙
Lololol @ fuck waves in the neck lololol
Really they could have just added another analog option in mixbus and that was your upgrade haha
BTW Bob just came back as Barbara refused to leave 🤣
Id be curious to hear how you think about Plugin Aliance
Good plugins. They had one of the best devs in Reymund until he left. Low cpu for the most part. Internal oversampling in the bx stuff. TMT was a good idea as well as the integration of the mono maker, stereo width and stuff.
They work hard and their plugin subscription is second to none in my opinion and I still pay into it haha
I don't use as much as I used to and I'm still waiting for my £250 voucher thing but they put the customer first in my opinion. New plugins released all the time, free updates, ability to buy plugins one by one via vouchers and they've now got the pop up shop where they get plugs at lower discounts.
I still remember when they first started the subscription plan. Pretty sure I was one of the early adopters cause I always had my eye on their stuff. Been a LONG time subscriber anyway
Me and dirk don't always agree but he's still pretty respectful towards me and I respect that as other CEO's won't even talk to me haha
When I listen to this it remind me of those important quotes in life “Hey rentboy, gev mein a cigaarrrrt.” And “that lass got glassed and no on leaves till we knaw what kunt didit.”
Random 😂
Literally crying from laughter. Amazing work.

This is pure gold, so funny I nearly cried laughing...great video + very informative.

As a current Waves SSL E-Channel owner I was intrigued by the release of the EV2. However after reading the EV2 CPU complaints and still meddling with the Waves update garbage, I said screw it and went with the Brainworx version during the Black Friday sale.
🤓🤓
same here.
Hahaha! What a great video! Made my day! Thank you Paul! 😂
🤜🤛
Great video! I like your accent!
🤓🤓
Best feature is focus mode for the eq. The cpu load is bonkers on V2 with no advantage over original SSL E. They should just add eq focus mode to the original ssl e as a free upgrade.
They should have just updated the mixhub haha.. And then fixed the EQ cramping in the original
Whats the focus mode BTW? Did I miss that?

🤓🤓
Excellent, spot-on and very entertaining. I didn't run any tests but apart from the brown knob option - which BTW the brainworx E-channel has always had - my ears told me there's no real difference . . . the CLA is superior with the 1176 option, compressor mix control and extensive sidechain EQ, not to mention the buckets. As for Waves' 'whoops' . . . a sick business model from a company that should know better. Thanks Paul!
🤓🤓
Was the problem between Bob, Dave and Barbara the one knob Pumper?
That and Dave knows ole Barb loves a cheeky baileys 🤣
Man I love it! Love your honesty and the rant because they deserve every bit of it. That´s why they don´t get any dollar from me. I can´t use Vocal Rider and the Greg Wells vocal thing etc any more. You´ve said it all in your rant. I could go into politics now and bring in some historical cliche behavior but that´s not the place for it...

I love the accents 😂😂😂. I’d love you to do a birmingham accent, but only one video. I don’t want you taking the p too much out of my beautiful city.
That's a hard accent to do an entire vid in haha I can say Birmingham in a brummie accent and that's about it 😂
I am not a big fan of yours Paul but I gotta say I really like that Bob guy. Can you please have him on more often. Thanks Bob you saved me some money I almost fell for Waves trick.
I don't even know how to take that 🤣
If I don’t have either of the plug ins, should I still get the new version? They r both at 27 dollars rn I think
Ev2 is slightly more Harmonically rich out the bat but offers less than Mixhub
If it's original vs ev2 then depends on if you want a cleaner ssl compared to a more Harmonically rich ssl. I'd go for ev2 over the original but being honest I'd go for brainworx if I was to chose an ssl channel strip plugin. personally I like their 9000j as it offers the TMT, optional thd as well as the option of the 4000E curves

As fun as this video was the message came trough, completely agree about Waves cynical business model.

For me a new paid upgrade would need to really be a vast improvement but I suppose that's where the subscription plans benefit as you forget that you get the updates cause your paying monthly but tbh if it's just bug fixes and really small changes you shouldn't pay anything
To give izotope their due rx9 was a very big jump especially with the whole seperate elements from tracks and stuff
I'm still glad my brain came up with the wup wup haha came to me months and months ago and just needed the right opportunity 🤣
You definitely don't need any more ssl! haha
