    Hello there sir, I have to agree with your comments as my Vstrom is also holding up well. I have covered 9& half thousand miles in almost 18 months of ownership and I don't commute on it. I am really pleased with my bike and really enjoy riding it.

    Great bikes, have a 04 mod, and it still feels tight an new. And in mixed riding l get almost 480km on one tank of gass.
    I do not have any rust on mine

      Nice. I think the later models the quality of fixings isn’t quite as good or certainly seems that way judging by the comments in owners groups.

    I think the V-Strom 650 is a cracking bike, the valve service cost suprised me as having the 765 Triumph, it is a service cost I am very much not looking forward to having to pay for. There is def something to be said for a standard exhaust, especially on a mile munver like the V-Strom as well... much easier over miles on the ears and therefore helps reduce the likelihood of headaches a bit.
    ace to hear your thoughts Freddie :-)

      It did seem very high. Not sure if that was just that particular dealer though. Agreed on the sound levels. I’ve always kept baffles in on bikes where I’ve had exhausts so they aren’t overly Loud. My cbr screamed when you wound it up but you could barely hear it just cruising at motorway speed. It was the best of both worlds. Thanks.

      peter pyke I tried road 4’s on a previous bike. Really didn’t get on with them. I seem to get on really well with the a41. They’re brilliant on all roads but amazing on gravel covered B roads. Often don’t notice how much crap is on the road unless someone is following me.

      1. For retaining value, stock is best. It also simplifies ordering parts when things need replacement.
      2. For the cross country rider, loud is tiring.

    V-Strom seems bullit proof to me. I'v got a 2014 model 43000 km on the clock. Never any issues. Valve clearence check gave no problems and not verry expensive. I got 3 year warrenty in The Netherlands when I bought it second hand in 2017, you mentioned 2 years bought new? When you buy a 2020 model you also get 3 years.
    Enjoy the Strom, it's a perfect bike!

    Great review! I found your comments on the rear pre-load (top box, passenger, passenger with full tour package load) really interesting...What have you chose as your setting as a single passenger with a (relatively heavy) top box?

    • @AGardenShed
      @AGardenShed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I think it’s just above the second mark for just me and top box but I tend not to have much in the top box. Naturally it all depends on the weight of yourself and what your taking with you.

  • @SimpleDialogue

    Thank you for sharing your thoughts, you said that you have been riding it with a pillion. Would you say the bike is powerful enough to go touring to Scotland let's say?

    • @AGardenShed
      @AGardenShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Touring with a pillion? Yes it would certainly do it but you would have to plan overtakes a little more as the extra weight is noticeable. If your doing a lot of two up I’d go for a 1000. Single touring it’s got plenty of power. Took mine all over Europe and adored it.

    • @AGardenShed
      @AGardenShed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and no. I ride in winter but I don't commute but tend not to ride when there's ice and snow. I still go out at the weekends after the roads have been gritted, i just wash it thoroughly afterwards.

      @AGardenShed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah. 650’s tend to have a very decent fuel economy. Highest I ever got was 78mpg from a tank. But that was in the mountains so doesn’t really count ha ha.

    • @AGardenShed
      @AGardenShed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. That was the big one I mentioned in spring. I think it was £460ish. I have a service plan so pay a little each month no nasty shocks. No where near as bad as a Triumph. Your looking at double for the big service.

    Great vid thanks, I’m going to get this bike, the 2020 model. In NZ there is the 650XA or 650A available. Do you think the XA is worth the extra $$$$ The website says the XA model has as extras, knuckle covers, engine under cowling, and aluminium reverse spoke wheels for better shock absorption.

    • @AGardenShed
      @AGardenShed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Your welcome. Yeah we have the both here. Unless your riding a lot off road then I would go with the base model (as I did). The only advantage is the spoked wheels which you won’t notice if your riding on road the whole time. The spoked wheels are a pain to clean and there were massive issues with them rusting. The handguards and belly pan are both plastic and mostly cosmetic. I bought the base model as didn’t plan on riding off road then fitted higher quality handguards and a metal skid pan. That’s my two sense. The only thing you your paying for that can’t be fitted as an extra is a different paint scheme and wire wheels.
