    I have that same van, 2WD with the 2.0L, though mine is the low roof version. Mine has the full side interior cargo panels but no ceiling panels on the cargo area. I've towed quite a lot with this van. I have 11k miles on it and have had it about 4 months. I towed a 20' flatbed trailer loaded with steel parts that was at least 5000 lbs. I towed that setup about 2300 miles. It tows great! It is the first auto-trans vehicle I've owned where I like its gear selection on hills. I almost always leave it in Auto mode instead of using the paddles to force a gear. Every GM or Ford pickup that I've owned with their 3 or 4 spd transmissions required pulling the gear down one notch so that it wouldn't hunt between gears while climbing a hill. The MB is better. I don't think the noise is a problem because I always use nice noise-cancelling headphones. Its MPG is only a little better than my Ford V8 pickup when on the highway, but much better in town. I averaged 11-12 mpg on that 2300 mile trip towing the heavy trailer. It is 16-17 mpg on the highway at 75 mph unloaded. It averages around 20 mpg in town. I just ordered a trailer brake controller and it looks like it will be ultra-simple to install. It has the trailer brake controller connector under the driver's seat. I liked the automatic lane following feature at first but now I cancel it most of the time. It is irritating. The parking sensors and side lane change warning feature is nice.

      I'm in the market for a full size van, and I'm between the sprinter and the transit. What's your opinion of the sprinter? Has the badge mark up costed you?
      I would prefer not having to drive an hour and a half for computer failures.

    Really appreciate this video bud. I placed an order for the 2023 3500xd with DRW a few weeks back to get a bit more towing rating. Going to upfit the interior and pull my gt3 around. I don't really have a need for a 1/2, 3/4, or 1ton truck. The ability to upfit to camp at the track vs going to usually crappy motels in the middle of nowhere was very appealing. Not to mention just all the van things I can do as well.

    • @OutMotorsports
      @OutMotorsports  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad it was helpful! We see a few Sprinters set up as campers (towing track cars) and it looks like a really great setup that's more maneuverable vs a Ford/GM van-based RV or any bigger pickup.

    I just ordered a 144 wb high roof with 2.0 gas engine. I will be primarily hauling around my tools in the back. This review was definitely helpful. I expect delivery in November this year. I went with the gas as I dont do a lot of towing and I am concerned with Diesel emission system reliability. To be honest that little 2.0 only about 130 cubes is a concern to me. I drove the 2.0 around the lot empty and it was peppy. After 1500 lbs or so in the back after its upfitted might be another story.. can anyone share their experiences regarding power and durability? Thanks

    Does the gas engine ever have issues going up hills? Worth the upgrade to V6? I have to drive work vehicles up some steep grades, but not very often.

    • @OutMotorsports
      @OutMotorsports  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Acceleration with the trailer was adequate but a bit labored. We'd pick the diesel V6, for sure. Neither will feel super fast (V6 wins on torque but is similar/same on HP) but the extra torque would be helpful. The speed demon of the modern cargo van options will be a Ford Transit with the 3.5 EcoBoost...

    I have a Sprinter passenger 144" high roof and there was no insulation from Mercedes. I put my own insulation in. And I haven't really noticed much of a difference either way. I'll keep plugging away though in order to make a superior limo with a bed and shower.

    • @OutMotorsports

      If you put your own in, that likely helped. And if you have other items in there (if you're making it a camper) that helps absorb sound too.

    • @OutMotorsports
      @OutMotorsports  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, lift the turbo four. The diesel is rated for the same horsepower but makes more torque. Probably would be better to lift/big-tire the diesel if you have the option to choose.

    What’s the difference between all wheel drive and 4x4?!

    • @OutMotorsports
      @OutMotorsports  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The (very, very simple) difference that most people will claim is that AWD is always engaged, i.e. no option to only use two-wheel drive. "True 4WD" or "4x4" is a system that starts off as 2WD - usually rear-driven - and via buttons or a lever, allows the driver to select when they want all four wheels driven. Both options *can* have a low-range gearbox but it's not guaranteed.
      So, a Range Rover is AWD but has low range. A Honda Pilot is AWD but has no low range. A Chevy Suburban is 4WD - it runs in rear wheel drive unless you tell it to engage 4x4 and thus the front wheels.

    I have this 2 litre in my Metris. There is no lack of power but gas engines just don't cut it for pulling because the fuel economy drops so much. Diesel is the only way to go if pulling trailers. I pull regularly with my Metris and I wish for a diesel, just for fuel economy.

    • @OutMotorsports
      @OutMotorsports  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, the MPG of gasoline engines does drop when towing. They do offer a lower buy-in and lower cost of ownership in many cases though, so for people who aren't towing every weekend, they can make a lot of sense. What do you pull with the Metris and how much does it weigh?

I have had the weight up to around 4500Ibs, pulling with around 750Ibs cargo in the back of the van plus 2 people.
