I was really hoping for this Garmin to have better heart rate/sleep tracking since I've decided not get another Fitbit after my current Charge 4; Fitbit's business model that makes you pay a monthly fee to access a full set of your OWN data is beyond ridiculous, and their trackers aren't the most reliable either (I've had problems with mine that the laughably incompetent Fitbit support failed to address). Apple watch seems to be the best option out there, which means I'll need to keep my current iPhone 12 mini just to use the Apple watch even after I've moved back to Android, which I'm planning to do when the Samsung S24 is released!

Yesss, waited for this review for a while! thank you! Glad this came after the new Pixel review, it seems like the venu 3 is a subpar product in the same price range sadly.. P. S. I have to say as an unrelated side note, in the video where Theresa does bent-over rows it seems she doesn't hold the barbell deep enough in her hands (which probably creates more tension on the fingers) and may lead to tendonitis, especially with heavier weights, please be careful with that!
The HR agreement for Theresa might be more effective due to her lack of arm hair. It could be interesting to shave the skin beneath the watch sensor to observe potential differences. Additionally, an engaging experiment could involve testing whether the sensor's performance varies with brown versus blond hair.
Hi TQS Thanks for your video. Which firmware version are your tests made on. The current version now is version 8.25, and I wonder if the heart-rate measurement is getting better as the versions numbers progresses? Meaning that Garmin is correcting this heart-rate measurement, that could be better 🙂
I got the Apple Watch Series 9 41mm because according to these stats it should be one of the best at sleep tracking. Guess what? It wasn't and I am returning it. I was awake but in bed until late almost every night since I got it and it would consider I was sleeping when I wasn't! I was even moving and went to the toilet a couple times... NOTHING. I don't understand how the tracking is that well rated when for me at least wasn't as accurate as expected. I configured it according to Apple's instructions and nothing worked to get the expected results. I was complaining about my old Garmin Venu SQ because it wasn't accurate, and I expected a lot more from the Apple Watch, but that wasn't the case.
For the hight price of a Garmin I thought it would do better with sleep tracking. However Garmin is one of the few that doesn't force a subscription, so there is that.

Rob. Your videos are fantastic. It is interesting to see all these watches compete on features, with the validity of data almost disregarded. You are about the only one to provide information on accuracy. Thank you! A few questions - in some videos you test the step counting. Is that something no longer worth testing? Does the frequency of HR sampling matter much ? Some watches sample multiple times per second, others only every few minutes. The whitings scanwatch 2 seems interesting (and more accuracy focused?). But you were not impressed with first version. Any plans to review the scanwatch 2? Thanks for all the hard work.
Garmin wearables are seriously overpriced. Inflated price alone attracts a lot of people who think they are buying something special. No amount of tests will deter these people
Interesting that the 3S performed better. I’ve always bought full sized Garmins and then ended up returning them because they’re not comfortable and I’ve noticed gaps in the HR data. I’ve then bought the “S” versions and have found them comfortable and the HR data gaps disappear. I did this for the Vivoactive 4 and the Forerunner 265. My hypothesis is the lower weight and smaller size help keep the sensor in place.
Venu 3 isnt that big or heavy - any Garmin watch has been trash on Robs wrist since the channel launched. Its individual how accurate an optical heart rate sensor is, so Garmins is just not good on Rob. Great on Theresa tho
Great review, thanks for the detail, and especially thanks for adding results from Teresa and the 3S. Women's physiology and the smaller size and weight on the watch makes most reviews inapposite for my use case. I just picked up the 3S this week, and my subjective experience lines up with what you report here. A bit pricey compared to similar functioning in the Venu 2S, but I am appreciating the new features currently not available on the previous generation watch. Love your channel!
Same. I was hoping the google and fitbit watches would get a similar treatment as he gave to the apple watches last month. hopefully that means more data being collected!
Thanks for video! What I don’t understand is that garmin is a professional fitness device and Apple Watch is smartwatch so how it comes it’s better than garmin ?
Strange the fact that other youtubers like DesFit and DC Rainmaker tested it and noticed it was really good in terms of Heart accuracy, I'm starting to suspect that your tests may have something that make the data not as reliable as expected.
Hi! Thanks for sharing! I don't think my data is more or less reliable than theirs. We just have different bodies, and might do workouts differently. It is always good to check several sources. I can only say that I test every watch in a similar manner and that I try to use the same protocol for all
@@TheQuantifiedScientist Thanks for your kind reply. Of course checking multiple souces is always the best way to have a bigger picture about a product. Garmin is the only product where I find discrepancies between your data and others. I'm perfectly aware of the fact that it depends by many factors such as how you wear it, your body shape (wrist, hair, skin colour). I'm just trying to find a great HR smartwatch for Android since I swapped from iPhone to S23 Ultra, it's really a shame that Apple watches cannot be connected to Android.... I would've kept my AW 7.
@@frankyguitar1241 If you've switched to Android platform, you have many options. You need to decide on your priorities. Battery life, sleep tracking, cardiac (heart) health tracking. If you are ok with a one day battery life, Google Pixel 2 Pro is good at both heart rate measurement and sleep tracking. Fitbit Charge 6 is also good at sleep tracking and heart rate measurement and offers a battery life up to 7 days. Huawei watches, like Watch 4 Pro and GT 4, are renowned for their excellent heart rate measurement and offer long battery life but they suck at sleep tracking. I think Garmin Venu 3 has a good package overall in terms of battery life, sleep tracking and heart rate measurement. It is a bit pricey though. So it all comes down to your preferences.
Nice. Wanted to save money and got the Venu 2s before watching this video. It's awesome to know it ranked higher than the Venu 3s, which was significantly more expensive. Thanks Rob
Came back to see the 3s data one more time--maybe you can run the same tests on yourself with this watch to standardize the physiological and number of data points? If the Venu 3S consistently performs in line with Teresa's results, it would be among the best watches, particularly for Android.
Looking at all these videos, I am confused now. Which is the best health tracking watch in the range of 250-300 USD? Battery should last for atleast 1 week
@@TheQuantifiedScientist I have just received the hw watch 4 pro and results are different from the charge 4 and the miband 6...i don't know which to trust😭... But I really love the huawei and all the metrics and features
Interesting that HR accuracy is similar and even slightly worse in many tests than the Venu 2. Had expected more from the new sensor combined with a 45 mm case, at least same level as the big Fenix/Epix. But confirms my decision to stay with the old Venu 2, which I got for less than half the price.
New sensor is not the only thing that's important for HR accuracy. Strap and backplate material are also very important. I.e. nylon strap will give better accuracy than silicon strap because of tighter contact between skin and sensor. Same as polymer backplate usually has better readings than metal one.
Awesome video. I have issue with the Venu3 sleep tracking, similar to yours, but a lot worse. I spoke with Garmin Rep, and reported that their Awake Sensitivity is too high, maybe an option to reduce can help. They said no option for it, and said maybe I'm just super active at night, so the watch consider I am awake. I don't have those head strap to proof result, but I used Fitbit Charge 6 on same arm to get "Hopefully" same result. Fitbit shown a lot better result, closer to what I feel and remember on the awake moment or time. While the Garmin Venu3 will still show around 50% of my sleep as awake. (Fitbit consider 8% while Garmin said 50+% of the sleep duration.) I think Garmin should look at your video and really consider that they should have an option to tune down the sensitivity of Awake stage during sleep tracking. Btw, I am curious. For logging, have you tried to force it into record "Every Second"? I am thinking your delay in lower HR on workout is due to the smart logging feature delayed your recording. When it detect or consider you are in work out or such with High HR, the smart logging will move into Every Second recording. That may result in your "Delayed" compare to the chest strap.
Hi Rob, just checking in on the UltraHuman ring test status. With distribution growing in the EU, I'm keen to finally pull the trigger either on it or the AW. Any updates would be helpful, thank you!
I was considering this because of ECG capabilities. I guess HR measurements Rob did would imply the Venu 3 isn't as good as others like apple that have that capability. Anyone using for that?
I have a sort of a unique question, if anyone can clarify - So, I have a smartwatch like Venu 3 for example - I pair it to my personal phone (Android) and install their app, and just use the watch normal, let it track whatever. But while at work, I'd like to connect it to my work phone (iOS) to take calls or see notifications. When it's connected to my work phone, will the health tracking start all over again or will it continue as it is?
Hello Rob I am looking for a new activity and health watch for Android. Now I'm hesitating between the Pixel Watch 2 and the Venu 3 which one would you recommend? According to your tests, the Pixel Watch 2 is better in all areas, but you were only able to test it for 1 day. Or do you have longer experience?
Thank you Rob for this quality work. I have two questions. Why do I not see any tests on Suunto watches and why the tests relating to GPS are not made with precise measurements and shown with comparison tables like you do for heart rate sensors, for oxygen or for the sleep?
I bought the watch Venu 3, 10 days ago. And I have a problem. I have checked all the settings several times. The sound works for messages and apps, but it doesn't work when someone calls the cell phone, then the watch just vibrates without sound. I think this is a serious failure by Garmin. I am thinking whether to return the watch or contact the service. Or should I wait for an upgrade? What do you think?
one question please - for how many days did you wear this watch continuously and how does the battery life of this watch affects the continuous data gathering for a daily user versus other better graded watches that have less battery life and have to be charged more often ?
I didn't found an answear to most important question on choosing color. Does mint version get dirty over time? On tests - on teresa it works much better, I think you should try shaving your wrist and see if it makes any change?
I have found the Venu 3s to be excellent so far. It certainly has a very good sensor which shouldn't be delivering the kind of results you were getting as it should be able to capture the changes in your heart rate in the same way that it can capture your heart rate accurately in the periods when it was consistently very accurate. It seems to suggest it lacks either the processing power to support the more advanced sensor compared to the Venu 2 series, or it is a software optimisation issue causing it not to be able to quickly capture the HR changes as they occur (which may have been fixed since you did the review hopefully). The Venu 3s is also different to the Venu 3 in terms of size/dimensions and the wrist strap which could have a bearing on the accuracy for each wearer. Perhaps try wearing the Venu 3s (if it fits you) and your girlfriend the Venu 3 to see if the pattern of results is consistent or not. I would definitely recommend the Venu 3 series above either the Apple Watch or Huawei, Whoop or Oura in terms of the overall package. It has vastly superior battery life to the Apple, the Garmin Connect app and connectivity with a variety of other devices beats the Huawei, you get huge amounts of data in the Connect act for free after your one-off purchase unlike the expensive need to stay subscribed to Whoop or Oura and the Oura ring isn't great for using during weightlifting type exercises. For Android users in particular who get the full range of Garmin features, it is a compelling prospect, but perhaps the Venu 2/2s are even better value for money at this point.
@@NostalgicMem0ries On Venu 3s I get between 1 week and 10 days depending on how many features I'm using. It is very convenient and doesn't take long to charge either.
Any idea how this would compare with the Ticwatch Pro 5? Many other channels have said it's online with Garmin watches like this and the Apple watch. Curious what you would find...
I.m just curious, don.t you have waaay too many awake moments recorded by the eeg? I don.t wanna appear rude, or getting too "intimate", but it.s hard for me to understand why or how 10-20 awakenings recorded/night is a correct data?
Seems like the Venu 2 for under $300 is a better buy than the Venu 3 for $449 at this point. Where do you feel the Vivoactive 5 fall with these options?
My hr measurements from venu 3 are even worse. 180bpm indoor session while venu3 measured 80😁 Sleep tracking also not good. But battery is a big plus. think i will return it.
these peaks are very hard to get right for optical devices. I think only apple is really better at it. But charging every day? I use the chest strap for HIIT or strength training and decide for the amazing battery life :)
Hello, Sir question? I want to buy a new watch to measure heart rate - sleep rate and ECG? What is better VENU 3 Or Google Watch 3 45mm? Please advise Thank you, Sir
Wow, these results are surprisingly disappointing from Garmin. I was expecting better based on their reputation for accuracy and for the huge price tag of the Venu 3 (perhaps one of the most expensive of these types of products going). Based on your video of the Pixel watch 2, I decided to purchase that one over the Venu 3. However, unfortunately, I ended up regretting it as the Pixel 2 is full of bugs and has loads of problems. It just doesn't work properly and causes nothing but stress! I thought us Android users FINALLY had an accurate fitness tracker that was also a great smart watch integrated with Wear OS...But sadly no, we are still not there yet! I was going to return it and go for a Venu 3 instead, but these results have deterred me...Maybe I need to stick with my Venu (1) for another year and hope for better options in a year's time? Thanks for the great work Rob!
You should take such tests with a grain of salt. HR accuracy depends on your wrist shape and how you wear the watch even more than it depends on sensor. Even the most advanced sensor will become unreliable if the contact surface with skin is bad.
I don't know how this guy has these results. I use my Forerunner 955 for running and weight training (which has an older sensor than the Venu 3) and compared to a heart rate monitor (Polar H9) it has a difference of a few beats. I can't explain!
Baseline pulseOx saturation levels seem really low for both the watch & the test standard instrument. (My Venu 2 sucks for Ox sat compared to my other pulseox testers).
Io do 6 stelle al tuo video. 3 all'orologio
There are watches that try (e.g. Galaxy Watch), and watches that use more traditional methods (e.g. Huawei Watch D). I cannot say yet if the Watch D is any good
In near future, blood pressure measurement will be a standard feature that is offered on all wearables just like blood oxygen mesaurement. In addition to what Rob says, I can include the following devices that are able to measure blood pressure. Aktiia band, this is a clinically validated and CE certified medical device. Xiaomi H1 is similar to Huawei Watch D. Some rings like Ring One from Muse, Iris Ring and Circular Ring also make blood pressure measurements. (*Not available in the last two as of now.
Fitbit unlocked raw data that used to be behind a paywall. You don’t need to pay premium to see anything special.
@@Pohmetolog Haven't heard about that, but even if true, it's obviously no substitute for having your 'premium' data readily available on the Fitbit app along with the rest of your data.
@@sammyt3514 so far the only thing you get with premium is a chart of resting heart rate during your sleep (can be viewed in another chart without the premium) you get a readiness score and a sleep animal that’s about it.
What are you talking about ? Didnt you see how fucking great the watch was on Theresa or did you just completely ignored that part? Accuracy is highly individual.. aw2 ultra is absolute hot garbage on my wrist but polar vantage 4 and epix 2 pro are fantastic compared to ecg, spot on even on HIIIT.. so try for yourself instead of making conclusions of another persons results
At least it is possible to connect a hr chest strap with the Venu 3.
Will you do the Vivoactive 5?
Yesss, waited for this review for a while! thank you!
Glad this came after the new Pixel review, it seems like the venu 3 is a subpar product in the same price range sadly..
P. S. I have to say as an unrelated side note, in the video where Theresa does bent-over rows it seems she doesn't hold the barbell deep enough in her hands (which probably creates more tension on the fingers) and may lead to tendonitis, especially with heavier weights, please be careful with that!
Could you do a review for Garmin Vivoactive 5?
I'm interesting in sleep tracking and I'm between this one and a Fitbit Inspire 3.
will there be a full video review follow up for the pixel watch 2?
Thanks
Are you still planning to do the pixel watch 2 full review?
Yes, already collected a lot of data!😊
Excelente!!!🎉
Your results seem different between results from DC rainmaker and Desfit?
I think it has to do with him having a small wrist.
The HR agreement for Theresa might be more effective due to her lack of arm hair.
It could be interesting to shave the skin beneath the watch sensor to observe potential differences.
Additionally, an engaging experiment could involve testing whether the sensor's performance varies with brown versus blond hair.
i was thinking bout this aswell
Hi TQS
Thanks for your video. Which firmware version are your tests made on. The current version now is version 8.25, and I wonder if the heart-rate measurement is getting better as the versions numbers progresses? Meaning that Garmin is correcting this heart-rate measurement, that could be better 🙂
Vivoactive 5 please...
Dude, your videos are amazing! I love all the data and time you put in these high quality video's!!
Smaller maybe a better fit on the wrist giving more accurate measurements?
Venu 3 isnt that big or heavy - any Garmin watch has been trash on Robs wrist since the channel launched. Its individual how accurate an optical heart rate sensor is, so Garmins is just not good on Rob. Great on Theresa tho
Thank you so much for this comment, as I am deciding between 3 and 3s - this makes a lot of sense to me and I will try the 3s now :)
Please do an extended test on the Pixel Watch 2. I'm so curious if the sleep-tracking is as good or better then the Apple Watches. 😃
Same. I was hoping the google and fitbit watches would get a similar treatment as he gave to the apple watches last month. hopefully that means more data being collected!
I really doubt it would be better than Apple watchs...
at least it can record the nap, apple didn't care hehehe@@roadguide123
Will do!
Yes and can you make a review for ultrahuman ring
Thanks for video! What I don’t understand is that garmin is a professional fitness device and Apple Watch is smartwatch so how it comes it’s better than garmin ?
Sem falar que esse modelo vem atualizado com sensor de 5⁰ geração! Ultima versão. Deveria bater de frente com apple watch S9! Mas perdeu feio...😢
@@davidmdsam7714 which language it is ?
Português - Brasil! 😄
@@davidmdsam7714 ah okay, translated. Yeah, I’m surprised that Apple Watch beats it
Strange the fact that other youtubers like DesFit and DC Rainmaker tested it and noticed it was really good in terms of Heart accuracy, I'm starting to suspect that your tests may have something that make the data not as reliable as expected.
@@frankyguitar1241I Would go on Huawei
Can you do a: what is the best watch end off 2023?
Yes, great suggestion! will do something similar :-)
Do you have your ranking docs accessible anywhere?
Looking at all these videos, I am confused now. Which is the best health tracking watch in the range of 250-300 USD? Battery should last for atleast 1 week
Nice to include another person for the test!!! Why so much difference between both of you? 😮😮😮😮
I wish I knew :-)
@@TheQuantifiedScientist I have just received the hw watch 4 pro and results are different from the charge 4 and the miband 6...i don't know which to trust😭... But I really love the huawei and all the metrics and features
Any plans to test the new Polar Vantage and Suunto Race?
Very well done! Thank you for your effort.
(Fitbit consider 8% while Garmin said 50+% of the sleep duration.)
I think Garmin should look at your video and really consider that they should have an option to tune down the sensitivity of Awake stage during sleep tracking.
Vale a pena comprar o Venu 3? Ou você iria para outro?
For me it’s opposite. Awake Sensitivity is too low. 3S here.
Hi Rob, just checking in on the UltraHuman ring test status. With distribution growing in the EU, I'm keen to finally pull the trigger either on it or the AW. Any updates would be helpful, thank you!
ECG is available in Garmin Venu 3 in the US but not in Europe, disappointing :(
If you know how, you can use ECG in Europe. Im in Germany and have ECG on my Venu 3.
Meh, probably as useless as the oxygen saturation.
@@askarium I am in France. Can you give me a few clues how to do it?
WHy didnt you compare the running accuracies this time?
I was considering this because of ECG capabilities. I guess HR measurements Rob did would imply the Venu 3 isn't as good as others like apple that have that capability. Anyone using for that?
ECG is something you try once and never again (I'm a Venu 3 owner)
I have a sort of a unique question, if anyone can clarify -
So, I have a smartwatch like Venu 3 for example - I pair it to my personal phone (Android) and install their app, and just use the watch normal, let it track whatever. But while at work, I'd like to connect it to my work phone (iOS) to take calls or see notifications. When it's connected to my work phone, will the health tracking start all over again or will it continue as it is?
How about Amazfit Balance? This has a new OS version Zepp OS 3.0
Hello Rob
I am looking for a new activity and health watch for Android.
You re right I haven t seen any SAUUNTO WATCHES
I bought the watch Venu 3, 10 days ago. And I have a problem. I have checked all the settings several times. The sound works for messages and apps, but it doesn't work when someone calls the cell phone, then the watch just vibrates without sound. I think this is a serious failure by Garmin. I am thinking whether to return the watch or contact the service. Or should I wait for an upgrade? What do you think?
Would u recommend wearing this Watch to check if you have sleep apnea ?
one question please - for how many days did you wear this watch continuously and how does the battery life of this watch affects the continuous data gathering for a daily user versus other better graded watches that have less battery life and have to be charged more often ?
Thanks for this one Rob. I returned my Pixel Watch 2 because it doesn't broadcast heartrate to my bike computer so I was eagerly awaiting this review!
Would this review be a good proxy for the Garmin Vivoactive 5?
For Android users in particular who get the full range of Garmin features, it is a compelling prospect, but perhaps the Venu 2/2s are even better value for money at this point.
how much battery days you getting?
@@NostalgicMem0ries On Venu 3s I get between 1 week and 10 days depending on how many features I'm using. It is very convenient and doesn't take long to charge either.
Do we have a Vantage V3 review coming??
Yes, wearing one as we speak!
Where is the full review of the Garmin Forerunner 255? I saw it in the comparison chart but I didn't find the complete video. Thanks!
I recorded it, but never edited it.😅 Not sure it is worth working on still...
Thanks for the review. Which one you can recommend for sport exercise tracking, HRV monitoring? Suunto race, or Venu 3S, or Polar V3?
I wonder what would account for the difference between Rob and Theresa. Smaller wrist?
Good question! There could be so many things: vasculature in the wrist, tension on the wrist, wrist size, ...
Vai fazer outro vídeo mais detalhado com venu 3? Poderia fazer usando o 3s?
Any idea how this would compare with the Ticwatch Pro 5?
Many other channels have said it's online with Garmin watches like this and the Apple watch. Curious what you would find...
Do you plan to test the Vivoactive 5?
I use the chest strap for HIIT or strength training and decide for the amazing battery life :)
damnn one of the best into the details review i have ever seen in my life :) ! subscribed !

Hello, Sir question? I want to buy a new watch to measure heart rate - sleep rate and ECG? What is better VENU 3 Or Google Watch 3 45mm? Please advise Thank you, Sir
Anychance of getting a review of the Scanwatch 2 🙏
What does the worst sleep stage mean? Is that REM?
I really would love to see you do a review on the mobvoi Ticwatch pro 5. Keep up the good work and all the best to you.
My venu 3s is pretty spot on when it comes to heart rate. I was really impressed when I compared it to my wahoo tickr chest strap.
Planning on doing a "Scanwatch 2" review? Any approximate date of when that video will be ready? Would love to hear your take on it. 🙂
Amazfit Balance pls next bro iam curious to see the work of new biotracker 5.0 🙏🏻
Is it just the battery and size difference between venu3 and venu3s
Desfit and dc rainmaker suggest venu 3 has good HR accuracy but you are saying its average, now I am confused 😢
Woww, nice video, it's interesting the trill of what will be your next smart watch for testing and the results!!!
Hello. When will there be a review on Huawei Watch 4 Pro?
Io do 6 stelle al tuo video. 3 all'orologio
Thank you for the review again, Rob. I know we could count on you to do the complete review.
Thanks so much!
Thank you for your work.
I'd like to request that HRV is regularly tested on devices.

Can you test the Forerunner 265?
Will you please test CMF Watch Pro?
Great review - will you be doing the new Garmin Vivoactive 5 (please)
Hello, do you think you will test the XIAOMI WATCH 2 PRO in the near future?!
Thank you in advance!
Is there a watch that can measure blood pressure?
Will come as a software update.)
Love your videos! Eagerly hoping that you cover the CMF Watch Pro by Nothing!
I'll try to. I contacted them, but no reply :-(
It appears that you added the wake segment to the average on the Gamin Vivomode Sport, unlike other watches
