  • In this video, I will show you how to connect your studio monitor speakers directly to your TV. I have a few different methods which you can try depending on the connections you have available.
    Cable types used in this video:
    3.5 mm TRS to Dual 1/4" TS Stereo Breakout Cable (on Amazon amzn.to/2VOt5CI)
    Digital to Analog Audio Converter-Optical to RCA (on Amazon amzn.to/2yciSqz) combined with Dual 1/4" TS to Dual RCA (on Amazon amzn.to/2KJqUKj)

    The correct way to do it cheaply and without feedback and noise from speakers after years of asking this question and no answers is by splitting the stereo out of the headphone jack immediately then converting both left and right cables to balanced XLR. You don't need a DAC.

    • @therealmamba
      @therealmamba 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The headphone output is about 30 ohms it's really low for a clear signal. At least 75 ohms is needed for a good line out quality into active monitors.

    The SMSL DO100 DAC with XLR outputs + RCA outs would be the best option I think. Optical input from TV plus Bluetooth 5.0 HiRes. This gives good sound quality for a price but its going to be much cheaper than any other DAC with this inputs.

    What if I connect the outputs of the DAC to the 2 XLR inputs of an audio interface such as the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (using 2 RCA to XLR cables), and connect the Scarlett to the monitors with 1/4" TRS cables? If I also have my computer connected to the Scarlett (via USB), will I be able to hear both my computer and TV sounds from the monitors without having to change anything anymore?
    Or would it be better to connect the DAC directly to the monitors' 1/4" TRS inputs (that would be unbalanced connections though) and connect the Scarlett to the monitors' XLR inputs?

  • @PrezidentHughes
    @PrezidentHughes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Didn't really need the DAC if he had the right cable. If required to buy everything from scratch, a mini headphone male to stereo rca female adaptor would've done the trick. Then you could also use your TV remote to control volume, and take advantage of the TV's built-in virtual surround sound DSP. No soundbar required!

This however stops me using the sound settings on the TV as it’s all greyed out. Would I get better quality sound if I used your digital optical to DAC converter method? Thanks in advance.

      You would technically get a better sound but how noticeable that would is questionable really. You can pick them up fairly cheap so probably worth a go.
