A point of concern with this modification is that you are disabling a safety item with the vehicle. Removing the shocks means any and all impact forces get translated directly to the structure of the car. This is a risk you accept by doing this so just be aware. Thanks for watching!
Your comment is stupid… what he is doing is just putting the bumper back to Euro Specifications… And safety regulations in Europe were similar if not stronger than USA…
All the mid 70's Porsche's had crappy front bumpers. On my '74 914s I removed the black bumper extensions and made new bumper tops out of fiber glass and epoxy. Way cleaner.
@tangentsbhb I had a look at some pics of UK spec 924s, not a huge difference at the rear now. All the fronts I can see have driving lights / fog lights integrated into the bumper - is that ultimately what you're going for?
Looks good. This video first had me thinking "man I kinda miss working on cars", then by the end with nothing lining up reminded me why I stick with motorcycles lol. Can't argue with the results of patience and determination tho. Nice work 👍
European spec bumpers and brackets are just SO much better. I had several 924s (including the 'S' model) in the past - great cars. Even drove my last one from the UK to the Nurburgring for a few days. 😊
I ran the part number on those shocks through the VW / Audi parts catalog, and interestingly they aren't used on anything! The bumpers on my 88 Audi 5000 mount in the same way, though on that car the 5mph bumpers look a lot better integrated with the car.
Nice mod man! I'm a mk1 Focus guy and we had the same issue here in the States with the large bumpers to meet US crash standards. A lot of us imported the Euro bumpers which are snug to the body and flow 1,000,000 times better (they should as they are the original design) -- so I feel your pain. Nice fabwork and execution. Subbed.
TiG looks great - but I could lay bead on that in 0.1% of the time... Also if you cross drilled that mount you created, you would provide some deflection if you got minor tag in parking lot.
I wonder what is below the black bumperettes. It would look even better without it. I guess there would be some mounting holes that needs to be blocked?
There are two studs protruding along with a few holes. The area by the lights has a gap too. My goal is to make a fill panel and smooth those areas eventually.
Is year decal allowed to be in center of plate? It’s on lower corner in my state. License actually comes from factory with first year painted there. To encourage folks to put next years sticker in corner.

Everywhere else in the world didn’t have these federal bumpers..
I don’t think the world ended for all the non federal bumpered 924/944

Look who wrote the comment first.
You don’t have much to worry about. These bumpers weren’t going preventable catastrophic damage to begin with.
The 5 mph bumpers, allegedly, stopped body damage at collisions below 5 mph. Beyond 5 mph, they do nothing.
You guys in the US really got the misfortune of bad looking bumpers. That mod makes it look so much better, almost like the ROW bumpers👌
Yeah it really made a lot of cars look funky to say the least
Might have to do this on my 944. Thanks.

Nice work....looks sooooo much better, especially the rear 👌
Yeah it was terrible back there

Well take a look at how the bumpers fit the area very tight. Mine sinks into the fender where a euro bumper meets up to it. Cleaner in every direction
Enormous improvement!!
🙏🙏

Lol that front bumper fought a bit for sure
Well done! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 SO much better.

Dude I had no idea you had this other channel! Subscribed!
Yeah i mention it every now and then but don't push it. Hope you enjoy!
Some 3m double stick tape will hold that black molding in nicely. It’s what most trim is held on with now days.

Oh for sure. Definitely wish we got them here. That roadtrip sounds incredible!
Looks much better 👏👏👏

Thats strange!
Some difference that made BJ I like it 👍👌🔧🔧🔧

Great vid.👍
Glad you enjoyed

Thank ya!
That came out nice! And they probably still offer more protection than the euro bumpers.
Awesome job man, I need to build or buy a set ❤
Awesome!!
looks 1000x better! Would a finger sander have been a better option for cleaning out the aluminum over the carbide? If you had one anyway... lol
If I had one I'd say it would have been ideal
@tangentsbhb fair.. new shop toy coming soon!

Yes, MIG is faster but this was a great moment to practice TIG on some basic parts.

The gaps created at the fender and lower skirt spoil the look.
I have a 77 924. The best way is to go euro bumper. I did it, way better as you can imagine.
Oh for sure. This helps for the time being
Looks great ! Just don’t drive on the street if you value life.
Being that they only have an effect up to about 5mph means they are pretty much useless outside of that.
Nice job. Looks great. But I would have lost that shipping loop. It's an eyesore.
Well it's nice to have should I ever need it
First 👍

This is how current Missouri plates are. Dedicated sticker section in the middle
Now just pull the black rubber strips off the bumpers.
I hope to eventually. Needs a lot of welding and paint to do that
Can you pick the bumper in?
What do you mean?
how long into this did you think why?
I thought "why" when looking at the stock setup and how terrible they looked
enjoyed watching you do this, but the front bumper looks terrible, get the Euro ones and do it right.
Euro bumpers look much better as I said. That's the eventual goal
Mercedes and BMWs got the safety bumpers far worse than the Porsches. They were like park benches.
🤣
Would probably look better without those hideous rubber strips.
The goal is to remove those. It requires welding, smoothing, and paint so it will take time
BMWs were far worse of that vintage
Just don’t hit anything, now you are the crumple zone.
A 5mph bumper does nothing at a crumple zone speed
The problem is that it still looks like a crappy 924.
Why did you watch the video if you hate 924s?
Us specs ruins any car
I won't argue that lol
