Anything over .50 cal (in a rifle) is illegal to own under normal circumstances. There are ways to obtain them but you can't just buy them like normal.

I have an older double gun. It’s in 375 H&H. Made in England in 1932. It has beautiful inlays and engraving work. Almost don’t want to shoot it lol Grandpa said the .500 Nitro was developed because hunters wanted something larger to put down charging water buffalo and lions. And it did the trick certainly. But he says the .375 H&H and .30-06 are still the most popular on Safari. Yea Scott the ammo is no joke. The .375 loads my dad gets for me are $129 a box. I imagine the .500 are at least twice that! But!!! Some .30-06 and 7mm Magnum goes for $100 a box too.
