Full bloom in Amrit Udyan, Rashtrapati Bhavan during our visit there in Feb. 2023 was quite an eyeful. Amrit Udyan, also known as Mughal Gardens till recently, is very well known for a large variety of attractive and exotic flowers and medicinal plants which are in full bloom during spring season, when the Amrit Udyan is thrown open for general public.
For visiting the Amrit Udyan, we had to make an online booking free of cost on the website of Rashtrapati Bhavan by following simple steps. The entry to Amrit Udyan is through Gate No. 35 of Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Presidential Estate. During the period it is open for general public, at any point in time, a large crowd of young and old, men and women are always thronging the Udyan. This year the crowd is unusually big because, on instructions of the President, the Udyan has been thrown open specially to school children. A very noble initiative by the President for familiarising the school children with an important aspect of cultural heritage of our great and diverse country!
Amrit Udyan is divided into various parts, like the Circular Garden, Long Garden, Rectangular Garden, Herbal Garden etc etc. And there is also a 200 year old shesham tree within the premises of Amrit Udyan.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable walk-around the Amrit Udyan. It will remain open till end of March 2023 in the current season. Do plan a visit.
