I built up a Seaboard (Tsunami) CX-O7 a few years back. It has a steel frame but a carbon fork. Other than the Shimano GRX 810 groupset, just about all the other components came from AliExpress. I have just under 15000 kms on the bike - all on gravel and a lot on some really rough stuff. I just love the frame. The workmanship is just great. And at 700.00 Canadian dollars, no other steel frame comes close to the value! I look forward to seeing your build.
Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! Glad to hear everything worked out for you! The build video should come somewhere in the next 2 weeks if the remaining parts arrive soon
Huge variable with steel bikes is quality/type of steel used. This is why people pay lots for frames that use high-end Reynolds and Columbus tubing. It massively impacts the ride quality, weight and durability of the frame
It's A big bull-sh*t... Reynolds" and "Columbus" tubing are just names, brands. All the Chromoly bicycle frames are 4130 Chrome molybdenum steel tubing... The "names" are the biggest false of this industry... And BTW the most important is the shape/design of the frame, But NOT the "names". The big advantage of Chromoly frame: It's lasting forever. The weight is exactly as Aluminum, Because it's triple stronger and triple heavier. The advantage of Aluminum is the producing: Softer metal to work with.
@Cycle-Tourer I’m sorry that’s completely false. Look up the difference in the grades both brands have spent decades developing. Heat treatment and alloys make a huge difference. It could be this tubing is treated and made the same way, but it would be good to know.
went to the web site. No Geometry info is easily found. They say that one of their other frames can take 2.0 tire size. After seeing several $5,000 frames-this is refreshing. Looks like a less $$ version of the Crust steel frames.
That is true, they are quite sparse with their info! This frame can officially take up to 47mm tires. In the front you could probably fit a 55mm and in the back at least a 50 if you wanna use all of the space available
Great job ! I subscribed on the last video before this one... and looks good. I am really picky on whom I am subscribing to. This channel looks promising.
Thank you for the encouragement! I was planing to shoot and edit the video this weekend but for some reason I bought the wrong break adapters haha. So I hope I can do it the weekend after that!
Tsunami is the name of the Brand/Company that makes them. they're from Singapore, Seaboard is i guess the name of the lineup/kind of their bikes. I have the Seaboard GR02, aluminum frame, carbon fork. quality over price is insanely good.
I built up a GR02 last spring to combine some spare parts and wheelset that I had into a functional bike. I am sad that I sold it, it was a very impressive frame. So light and responsive.
my Seaboard FG01 just arrived, im excited to build it up!... youre not the only one dissapointed with the engrish warning label stuck under the clearcoat
I'm using à seaboard GR-02 as a commuter gravel bike and this is really good! Carbon fork and alu frame I also build a gravel bike for 2 friends with a gr -02 and another one Mosso gravel frame alu. They are pretty happy with the bikes and are doing gravel rides and not commuting with the bike. Pretty happy with the alu AliExpress frames overall!
Next time make sure to include some close-up shots of the welding, even if you don't know enough to comment on it. The website photos are to small to tell, but it doesn't look great.
I’ve been looking at several frames on AliExpress for quite some time. My usual go to is older frames from the 70s 90s. I can usually to get a frame bought and reconditioned for about £160. Weight wise, these Chinese frames are about the same as the frames I buy.
Theres a lot of users of that bike here in the Philippines, its cheaper in shoppee or lazada, its directly imported from china same factory where tsunami bikes comes from
I am using a Seaboard GR02 aluminium frame as a gravel bike and so far i really like it. Quality is amazing and the price is really low. I didn't have any issues building it up and it rides really well. Can't say much about their steel frames but as a brand in general they seem trustworthy. The only thing i am not a fan of with the GR02 is the way the rd hanger is mounted. Once you remove the thru axle the screw holding it will come slightly lose and the rd hanger including derailleur will move. For me that's not an issue since i don't remove the rear wheel regularly but if you do you should consider this. The only thing that came with the frame i decided against using was the compression plug because it was really short. Since i am running a lot of spacers i decided to go for a bigger compression plug from aliexpress which was still less than 10€.
There is NO painted bike frame that comes "faced" from the manufacture....is this German high on Jägermeister? If you don't have the tools, a standard bike shop can face the bb for a small fee. This doesn't have to be done and is BB dependent.
I can see that! The frames there only have like 2-3 sizes and all quite in the middle range. But maybe if you go on the manufacturers website itself there's more options.

Cool looking frame!
Can't wait for the final build!!!
Thank you so much! Should not take much more than 2 weeks
Hey bike industry! MORE affordable steel bikes, LESS industry "standards" changes every few weeks. Cheers. Fanx.
NICE!
can't wait for the building!!!!
Thank you so much! Should not take much longer than 2 weeks
I own a Seabord track frame and a CX03 as my all around and cummuter bike. These are high quality steel frames.
That sounds very promising!
Waiting for build video/ride. Looks nice.
I’m working on it, I’ll post it soon!
Excited to follow along!
Thank you!

Ive had my eye on one of these and also the FG-01 which is their track frame that supports upto 42c tires.
Looking forward to your full build ✌️

As far as I know the brand is not seaboard but tsunami,, it's a well established frame builder from Taiwan, but I may be wrong
Could very well be! They do have lots of frames - most of them for fixies though
@@nikinikcc My Tsunami frame has the same emblem and the same sticker that you can't remove ;-)

But still it's mostly made in china, the factory is in china, which makes the labor cheaper
Ahh okay good to know, thanks!
I have a GR02 too. I loveit! Frameset was around 400usd, built it with nearly all aliexpress parts. I m so satisfied with the build.
my Seaboard FG01 just arrived, im excited to build it up!... youre not the only one dissapointed with the engrish warning label stuck under the clearcoat
Right??? Why not just make it a normal sticker so you can peel it off once you read it a couple of times

We are waiting for the assembly video! :)
Waiting for a break adapter and then I'm going to get right to it!

Thanks for the tip! Will do that next time!
OK, a steel gravel bike frame, how about covering some basic specs or rationale behind the build/use case?
Eg What's the max tire size? 40mm?
Damn, totally forgot! The max tire size officially is 47mm but I recon you can get away with at least a 50mm in the back and a 55mm in the front
@@nikinikcc The product page/internet says max 40mm and the actual room is 43mm. Maybe no wonder the 'CX'
Seaboard brand is really good but I think their standards are outdated for what gravel is like now.
Yeah, I've seen that on quite a lot of their frames
I’ve been looking at several frames on AliExpress for quite some time. My usual go to is older frames from the 70s 90s. I can usually to get a frame bought and reconditioned for about £160. Weight wise, these Chinese frames are about the same as the frames I buy.
What is the Rear axle spacing and headset diameter?
Theres a lot of users of that bike here in the Philippines, its cheaper in shoppee or lazada, its directly imported from china same factory where tsunami bikes comes from
thought I saw a few paint chips on the fork, but the edits are little quick/short
There is one very small one on the top of the right fork leg but I caused it so I did not want to include it in the video
looked like there might have been a dent or bend at the end of one of the fork legs. Is that just weird lighting?
It's a crimp (indentation) that is part of the design....similar to a crimp on chain stays on most frames for tire clearance.
Yeah, I agree with yellow sheep. It's on purpose
@@yellowsheeps it's at the bottom of the fork... Where the tire would never touch. It would also be on both sides in the case
What is on the downtube to the top-right of the "d" in Seaboard when looking at the bike from the drive-side?
looks like holes for internal routing of cables
Yes, there are small eyelets with screw-in caps. So you could also route some of the houses in part internally
5:24 you mean planed
It might be different in your country but certainly here in the uk we say "faced" just as nikinik does.
Gseht guet us! Bin uffem Resultat gspannt.

You`ll need a cool sticker to cover that ugly warning sigh
That's a great idea! Any suggestions for cool stickers?

The problem with AliExpress frames for me are the available sizes. I'm 1,90m and the largest of these frames is way too small with its 53 cm. ☹️☹️☹️
At 1.87, I'm almost right there with you mate :(
I can see that! The frames there only have like 2-3 sizes and all quite in the middle range. But maybe if you go on the manufacturers website itself there's more options.
I am 194cm and riding Darkrock Wutip 56cm frame almost identical
I'm 1m85 and riding a GR-02 in 56cm, works pretty well. I don't know if they have a bigger frame size thos
