I actually really liked the Bike Vault being done as suggested by a viewer - really gives you time to appreciate the bike. Thanks for a great show as always!
I've only been cycling about 5 years, up until this year I stopped riding in the winter because it just wasn't fun to ride all bundled up. This winter I spent about $1000 on some quality winter specific kit (Jersey, Jacket, Bib Tights, Cycling boots) and I have been really enjoying outdoor winter riding. It will be nice when spring rolls around and I don't feel like I'm starting from zero. I do some indoor zwifting but just don't like it. Being able to do a couple of rides outdoors makes the indoor rides during the work week much more tolerable.
Winter bib tights, winter (waterproof and insulated) cycling shoes, and waterproof, insulated gloves. The winter cycling shoes are a game changer. Light years better than shoe covers.
Mudlarking isn't dodgy, it is for people who search river banks for treasure. As opposed to MudLARPers who go to river banks and reenact actual or fantasy battles and quests.
Bike Vault was great! That one picture was all about the background. A big NO to the integrated handle bar with your computer and display in the bar. I have one Garmin to click onto which ever bike I’m riding.
Could Ollie or the rest of the GCN crew do a video explaining and highlighting the CTT after their new rebranding to make it more attractive for all types of riders and especially newcomers.
What about Yellow Flags for the peloton? Could be for extreme situations. Each sector of each stage or race could have potential Yellow Flags areas ie road furniture in the rain, extreme pinch points, a major crash occurs, something extreme and unplanned ahead, etc the peloton would recover under Yellow Flag before racing resumes. The riders would be notified via radio and special yellow lights on the race officials’ vehicles, at which point, speed comes down and the riders hold their positions until Green. Otherwise, ride on and race! Forget about limiting the gears or actively slowing the racing down besides specific points under brief Yellow.
I wish i had british winter😅 Now i'm riding in full snowboarding suit, 2 warm socks, winter shoes, 2 pair of gloves. With spiked tyre and special warm gloves on handle
Ollie, I have a baselayer that is at least 25 years old made by Brynje. It‘s polypropylene, not polyester because that retains less water. I think we should meet in the kitchen at a party at 2am and nerd out over base layers.
The way I’d do the integrated head-unit-bars thing is to come up with an ANT+/BT/whatever protocol for remote displays. Leave the hard head-unit stuff to the established players. Easier said than done though, with all the possible form factors, types of data to be displayed, etc.
A trip to someplace with great riding weather; for me I loved there but a trip to San Diego, ca or Tucson, az in North America is great way to keep motivated for the winter
If Mick Jagger’s bike was in the bike vault you would have said: “cranks are not aligned, chain is dirty, angle is jaunty, valves are not aligned… we give it a nice”
In Toronto, Canada I've been commuting this winter with effetto mariposa and it has been performing extremely well through the wet and cold. Where silca seems to flake off quickly, the flowerpower wax seems to stay soft
If integrated head units gain traction, I imagine that it will be in the commuter E-bike category where the displayed data is more utility-printed, the power supply is already integrated, and bike fit is a little more general.
Good lighting. Especially here in the Great White North, drivers are not expecting cyclists this time of year, and the snowy road shoulders force you out into the roadway both farther and more often. Early warning of a cyclist ahead could be a life saver.
I think we should have a HUD in your helmet like they have on fighter planes, especially for tt helmets with the visor. You'd still have all your awareness just as the pilots do
When the Castelli Gabba first came out 2012-ish every team in the peloton was using blacked out gabba jackets. My first gabba went on for years. Now I just have to round up all the shake dry I can find!
You guys should watch the GCN show or talk to Is and Dan before recording. They already covered Jagger's Condor sale just 48 hours ago. To end on a positive note, love the new bike vault format, easier to see the bikes.
As someone unfamiliar with Jagger's oeuvre, I wonder if he had the vocal range of a male soprano? That saddle of his has a rather extreme upwards tilt. I like the new format for the bike vault.
Things for winter. Gloves are essential but I have never found any really good ones. Ollies remarks about his favourite base layer (a string vest?) made me think is there such a thing as mesh glove liners that might do a similar job for fingers? Is there? ask GCNTECH#
Re 'Bike Vault' section - are people gaming this? Fisch at 30:54 is *TOO* perfect! Is he/she a very clever person that has superimposed a bike pic on a suitable background? Mudlarker92 is an entirely innocent name for people who look for "stuff" at low tide. Super3's bike is completely stunning!
I've given up on overshoes and just bought waterproof winter shoes. Overshoes needed replacing every year and the winter shoes last longer and are less fussing around.
Alex is awesome! and Ollie is .. well he's Ollie. listen boys... I love all cycling disciplines, road(first love) mtb(second love) gravel(meh it's ok) so keep up the great work! I know GCN has roots in road cycling however... mountain biking is cycling and many of us and few of your presenters.. Simon... looking at you... do ride MTB. Here in Canada I would love to see more content on MTB included and perhaps the bike vault could include some beautiful MTB whips along side the road and gravel bikes. Maybe.... the Bike Vault becomes its' own video segment as you could expand it. I think it's time and a great opportunity for GCN to increase our viewing pleasure with dedicated Bike Vault videos. GCN for prime minister... ! "Dwayne from Canada"
Integrated cockpit with computer is inevitable. Echoing comments about R&D costs means big companies will do it best: SRAM, Garmin either solo or with a more experienced carbon making partner, and they do it to capture more market share on the bike. I'm looking forward to it.
The integrated integrated handlebar might run into problems when you sweat onto the touch screen. I had that on the MTB and I have managed to sweat-reconfigure my first screen on the computer.
I would like to use the Core Temp Sensor for heat training. But nearly 300 euros for a thermometer? No thanks. Does anyone know of an entry-level model?
You Brit’s should come to Ontario Canada and try winter riding in January and February and ride every day for like 3 weeks and readjust the winter riding video
#askgcn why do you prefer overshoes over winter shoes? They aren’t bulky anymore, also not that pricy (actually the cheaper ones are the same $$ as expensive overshoes), much warmer and more waterproof.
Regarding the comment on bike tech, has the introduction of carbon bike components in racing increased the severity of injuries, compared to the pre-carbon era?
Spatz are so over-rated. I have a few of their products, the overshoes are tricky to get on and off, very sweaty, and don’t keep your toes any warmer than your typical overshoes. I like the gloves with the ‘convertible’ wind layer, but they are not very water repellent and are very thin on the palms, so hands can quickly get cold and wet from handling wet bats in the rain. Over-priced for what they are. Just my two cents! All for the mudguards tho, especially for Scottish winters!
These guys never heard of drip wax? It doesn't get noisey in the cold and wax is far more wash proof than oils not to mention there's much less grit to wash off. Stay away from wet oil based lubes or soft the dire consequences
@@gcntech So, not very French of you - and that picture that followed suggested "Core" is the manufacturers name or model, and inserting the sensor seems difficult even for Ollie
Integrated items only last three years max before they're out of date so this would not be for me. And that's before we get to fitting them and if they go wrong. Nahhhhh!!!
you are still riding your bike alone, even if in zwift you can see 1000 people connected. only if you have some buddies at your house, you would be NOT riding alone on zwift
Mudguards are waste of money they seem never to help mine when re tried them seemed to throw more dirt on my chain and main crank and on my disc brakes get more dirt into them not going to ever revisit them , tubeless tire are clear waste of money easier to patch a tire and tube and off i go tubless just gimmick .
What would you add in your winter cycling essentials? ❄🚴
A balaclava, as I use one, and it keeps my head, ears, nose from getting cold and painful. Just try one once and you will never want to go without it.
Don't wear hi-vis yellow overshoes in Scotland. Everyone thinks you're wearing Billy Connolly's banana boots. 😜
I actually really liked the Bike Vault being done as suggested by a viewer - really gives you time to appreciate the bike. Thanks for a great show as always!
5:40 ‘Cyclists are renowned for being cool’ you’ve heard it here first kids. Wish the general public would believe this as well.

Riding year-round in the Seattle area, I couldn't agree more. Winter cycling shoes have been a game changer.
I too am from Western Washington- Got me some quality winter shoes and a box of toe warmers. Love riding outside now

When do you make the switch to an indoor trainer?
@padmanabhaprasannasimha5385 I like outdoor activities. Also, riding through snow is amazing. But temp below -20 it's too much
I‘d add insulated bottles with a lid over the mouthpiece to avoid ingesting all the crap from the road and getting ill.
Ollie, I have a baselayer that is at least 25 years old made by Brynje. It‘s polypropylene, not polyester because that retains less water. I think we should meet in the kitchen at a party at 2am and nerd out over base layers.
Finally we get to see the bikes submitted to the bike vault instead of Ollie and Adam.
you spoke, we listened!

If Mick Jagger’s bike was in the bike vault you would have said: “cranks are not aligned, chain is dirty, angle is jaunty, valves are not aligned… we give it a nice”
Decent gloves are everything.
Surprised to see Ollie washing a bike with the bars banging against a wall!
Yes he should be using an old bike mechanic stand, poor show as I expected more from Dr Oli.
In Toronto, Canada I've been commuting this winter with effetto mariposa and it has been performing extremely well through the wet and cold. Where silca seems to flake off quickly, the flowerpower wax seems to stay soft
Week 95 of asking for a "The UCI has no jurisdiction here" t-shirt
nearly at the magic 100!
Week 94 of you being annoying about it. I think UCI would not like it.
Uci does have jurisdiction here, is what it is.
What do you expect when you put the 🇨🇭 in charge
They told you to keep asking, and so you have! Hope your persistence pays off!

Yes yes.. That bar is amazing ❤❤
Winter necessities - pogies (e.g., Bar Mitts) and winter cycling boots (e.g., Lake).
Mesh base layers keep you warm in the winter . Ukrainian soldiers use them in the trenches at the moment.

2:48 I don’t know Ollie. I’ve been using head and shoulders to wash my bike and my bike has not had any dandruff. Seems to be working great
In the bike vault, a 1X bike should have it's chain on the largest sprocket to qualify as super-nice.
When the Castelli Gabba first came out 2012-ish every team in the peloton was using blacked out gabba jackets. My first gabba went on for years. Now I just have to round up all the shake dry I can find!
you can’t always get what you want
Funny, Ollie, your quips about Mick's bike, and every day I see the band logo on shirts and jackets. The Stones really should endorse a gravel bike.
You guys should watch the GCN show or talk to Is and Dan before recording. They already covered Jagger's Condor sale just 48 hours ago. To end on a positive note, love the new bike vault format, easier to see the bikes.
Everybody should appreciate Ollies humor
yes sir
I think we need a bit of film editing when Ollie is washing his bike. We don’t need to see his crack. 😂
As someone unfamiliar with Jagger's oeuvre, I wonder if he had the vocal range of a male soprano? That saddle of his has a rather extreme upwards tilt. I like the new format for the bike vault.
Winter essentials - Winter boots and heated insoles. You'll wonder how you ever survived without them 😎

They are a great investment if you ride lots in winter, and often allow a slightly thicker sock to be worn too!
Layers of alpaca & wool, with modern future light shell, feet kept well by Spatz.
Ive had a Pearl Izumi shell since the early 90s.

7:06 same bro 🤝 not cycling specific so cost a millionth of the price and it even outlasted a marriage…
Head units are kinda disposable items. Stop working, break, new tech, replace.
What would u do with the computer in bar?
Integrated digital handlebars i totally love the concept but I’d be worried about cost and moving from bike to bike
You Brit’s should come to Ontario Canada and try winter riding in January and February and ride every day for like 3 weeks and readjust the winter riding video

Nothing on the new Ridley Noah Fast the UnoX is gonna ride?
It got revealed today.
Was hoping you guys had early access to it.
If I get a heat sensor. How do I use the data?
Better not use that integrated bar on the trainer. The sweat will kill that thing.
dat display in handlebar looks soooCoool but alsooo soooooo unpractical, even magnets doesn't save it
What's the difference between a Wet Lube vs. 3-in-One Oil.?
Is GCN still based in the centre of Bath?
We sure are!
"What's holding that up?"
Regarding the comment on bike tech, has the introduction of carbon bike components in racing increased the severity of injuries, compared to the pre-carbon era?
I wonder if the structural integrity of the digital bar will hold up to the real world. Putting fat holes in the ting will make it weak innit
On tubeless 30C for 6k km and 0% problems.
Does Arnold use tubes on the bike with carbon mudguards, so that he doesn't get sealant all over his fancy mudguards??
A question, not a comment. Which makes more of a difference inside the peloton, aero or lightweight?
