Steve behind the wheel with his big cigar is gonna make for some iconic photos of our time in this hobby. Looking like a modern day Bill Hines!
Need a good black and white photo of Steve behind the wheel🤠🤠
Looking like a natural Steve!
And with the new hair-do, he is one Dapper Dude!
Really dig the car, but do look into the anti-chatter rods; you'll be glad you did!
Steve needs a Panama hat.
This car is definitely my favorite of all the current builds. And Steve rolling along behind the wheel with a cigar big enough to plug up exhaust pipes is quite the image of someone living his best life. Excited to see more of this build!
Steve looks 10 years younger with the new hair style, he is a star now
For guys from my generation , this exactly what did in high school fixing our flathead junkers. It doesn’t get any better than this!
Nice to see Steve behind the wheel. Thank you!
Steve looked pretty comfortable in the drivers seat, stogie and all.
You have taught me alot. I have always been a 60s hot rod guy but I might build a 30s ford as soon as I finish my Shelby. You have also built a good business that supports your hobby and saves alot of cars and parts from the junkyard. Thanks you guys !!!
I've been building 50's/60s cars for 50+ years was going to quit cause I did all I wanted but stumbled on a 31 coupe and 32 4 door couple of years ago, never had so much fun building cars. Don't have to be Ford, some orphan brands are better built to start with, no body wood, parallel springs, stronger frames and rear gas tanks. My prewars are comfy cruisers, got enough high performance units.
Steve has a nice hair cut I almost didn't recognize him on the last few video's. He always had his hat pulled way down over his eye's. What a difference a hair cut makes. Plus the car with new glass is always cool and it fits with the custom chop y'all did.the top is going to look even cooler once it's made.
Steve learning to drive. What a hoot. Some gremlins to resolve. At park, the steering is heavy. Runs reasonably well for first short run trial. 2 pieces of glass make such a difference.
Hey Matt and Steve, it's awesome to see this 1938 Ford convertible car on the road again.... And Steve, it was good to see you driving
I just can't get used to Steve's new haircut. When I see him I say to myself "who is that new guy". Looks comfortable in the hot weather. You guys keep up te great work.
Steves smile says it all..
Hi Guys, the dash looks great!, My old lineman partner used to say when he saw someone smoking a cigar like Steve has, "you know you look like a movie star! .... Lassie taking a shit!" 🤣
You may never be any cooler than you were in this video! This car is incredible, and in my book a keeper if there ever was one.
It’s taking shape and looking great
I like that, you let Steve drive!
Well done Steve, the cigar really completes the look!
That's not just a cigar, but a SEEgar.
Love Steve’s new look!
That is one clean looking dash.
A gem of a car. Thanks for sharing.
On the road in time for the 4th, and all dressed up in patriotic colors.
BITCHIN!
It's been fun watching this one come this far considering how it was found. Looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.
Steve looks right at home behind the wheel of this car.
It would look so cool with a Carson style lift off top and painted a blue close to what remains on the car.
As "Willie" would say, "Perfek" !!! All that's missing with this car now is some "Cheesecake" images !!! That tall shifter on top of that "floorbox" is timeless !!!
Learned to drive on a 48 Ford pickup with a flathead six and one of those floor boxes. Right out of high school, worked for a cousin who had a 48/49 three quarter ton flatbed with a non-syncro four speed. Learning to drive/shift that was aa blast. His partner could shift that thing up or down through all the gears without using the clutch. WITHOUT a hint of a gear crash, of course. All about taking the pressure off the gears by "feathering" the throttle and matching the engine speed to the rolling speed. "Double clutching" was fun to learn for me at the time !! The little "back and forth" in neutral for gear change timing was a habit I learned and still instinctively practice all these years later whenever I get the chance to drive something of that vintage/type. Fun, Fun, Fun !!!
It would look so good painted black !! But it still looks good now ! Thanks for another , Brother !
Was Steve smoking a Flathead cigar?! That's fitting for sure!😂
Gotta have the official road test cigar. Saved another one.Very nice guys.
Just a suggestion. How about continuing the blue in the door panels across the center of the dash? Just on the raised section around the gauges.
Man what a beautiful dash this car now has. Get the wheel restored and it will be perfect. This is my favorite of all your cars. The skirts, the lights, the pan, the stance it all flows so nicely together. Once completed this is going to be one extra nice custom. It rides smooth and is definitely a cruiser that will get double looks. The car is period correct as if you drove it out of a time tunnel. Congrats!
The folks in your town must love to see you guys taking yet another wicked ride out for a little spin!!! Great job guys!
I was waiting for Steve to take one last drag of that giant cigar whilst next to the fuel pump. Well, he's got neat hair like an astronaut, so he just needs the launch mechanism...
What a beautiful ride!
Looks like a scene from the little pages.
Steve and his big cigar go good with the '38.
What a great fun car and good times with you guys!! I'm really jealous. Thanks for posting.
I love the front end of that car it looks like an old hound dog with the droopy eyes kick ass I love it
A big win. Hope to see it with Carson top soon
The Maiden Flight is always exciting!
Come a long way with this car. Nice
This 38 is getting better and better. Great work ! I look forward to see it in final paint.
She's come a long way! Looking forward for the Carson top! Nailing the subtle Westergard look!! Go Iron Trap, keep moving forward!
Thank you!
Brings back great memories of a '51 Merc that I bought for $40 that needed some TLC or a '54 Chevy I bought stationed in Colorado for $200. Steve looks like a 3-year-old at Christmas & genuinely savoring every mile.
Beautiful car, I particularly like the dashboard and the work you did on the rear bumper!🤩
just a quick comment on that second shift problem. In our early days (1950's) we used to have a wire from the dash to loop around the floor shift lever to hold in second called a "grandpa, pappy, or ole man wire". I am sure other names as well in other parts of the country. Used trans were $5.00 to $10.00 then.,
A bungee cord works als6
Good stuff. One of my favorites in the fleet.😊
My favorite car that you've been working on it's awesome to see it going down the road. As always the first test drives is when you find the bugs and do the fine tunings. Hope to see you resolve the "cable noise" thingy. 😅
Love the rat rod look.
I think it’s worthy of a new paint job and a top!
Seeing Steve behind the wheel was priceless. I love that car. I think that car all in white with light Ghost flames with set it off!!
So sweet, my favorite of all your fabulous projects.
It’s fantastic that you guys are showing the 38 so much love, it is such a cool Art Deco design.
Hey Matt & Steve, lovin' the '38 Convertible! Great to see it on the road!
yea, Steve is looking like the chairman of the board with that haircut. And now with the cigar in the 38 Ford he looks like he's rollin up to the country club. Lovin life.
Awesome!!!! Love all your cars!! Cant wait to see this car done and painted. What a bitchin car she will be!!
With the chopped windshield, I wonder what Matt will come up with for wipers.
Yay, steve got to drive something, good job. Sounds good . I wondered if steve has a ( hot rod )car of his own ?
It's in a video from a couple weeks ago. One of the Sunday videos. I think he has a monte carlo.
Good.... No smokey burnouts. Save the tires 🤓
Looks great! Is a full paint job in it's future? Put a wee camera under the hood to catch the ghosts.
Very neat!
Thank you Matt and Steve for the update on the '38 ! It's looking better !
That is the best looking dashboard ever.
Thanks!
@lelandrogers1078 White dash casts a reflection onto the windshield, not good. Did you not watch video?
Tell Steve we love his new haircut!! It fits the cars so well, I know it was a hard decision being a 70's rebel to have the locks shorn...Though it paid off. Looking Slick Dude!
Love that dash
That was the bomb! And that's why they used to call them the "Bombs"
Look at Steve fitting right into the whole Kustom Kulture scene.
Super cool.
Damn, Steve’s new style actually adds another dimension to your channel. I guess ITG doesn’t only give cars a new lease on life, but people too. Sorry for getting personal and I’m not dunking on the old style, which is very close to mine… Guess it just goes to show doing something fun and meaningful at work transfers to your personal life too. You’re all living the dream, keep up the good work!
Steve’s rockin’ that CAO Flathead V770!
38 looks great!!! real stylish and sleek looking. Those mods aren't in your face and suit the car perfectly.
I just looked at the color chart for 1940 LaSaelle. This car would look great in the Silver French Gray Irid. with a pinstripe in Oxblood Maroon Irid. Just a suggestion.
Steve is looking like old school Las Vegas casino manager🏆 awesome job guys keep it up
And Steve is smoking a Flathead cigar too! Very appropriate!
Love the dash and steering wheel
I always comment on the upholstery cause it's so cool for a barn find.
No judder rods? the crank pulley hitting the cross member as it all moves about?
great job, next car let Kate be the maiden driver !
Dude!!! Steve clenching on his rocket turd!!!lol!!! Good times!!!✌️
Sounds really good. I just bought a 39 Ford deluxe coupe and when I back up, I got that chatter. I thought there was something severely wrong with the car, but you guys prove to me that normal lol
Needs chatter rods!
Very cool. Glad you let Steve take the helm for the first maiden voyage. Looks like he enjoys the CAO Flathead 770 Big Block cigar! Correct me if wrong. That’s a man’s stick. I like the 660 Carb myself.😊
At first I thought it was a CAO Flathead 600 Cigar. If it was, then very appropriate. Way to go Steve.
Steve is looking good behind the wheel. Do you plan to paint the Ford at some point?
Out of all the MattMobiles, this is my favorite.
Looks great
I haven't watched in a while, when did you fire Steve, and employ Brad Pitt ?
Looks great!
great drive
Good run!
If you end up pulling the trans, I suggest that you check the alignment of the bell housing. If the input shaft is misaligned with the crankshaft it can cause the transmission to pop out of gear. Trust me on this one, guys. I worked on all types of manual transmissions for 11 years. Are you going to put a top down tonneau cover on the '38?
Good Stuff!
New Look is cool Steve...
Awesome progress on this project.
Thanks!
Noticed no gas gauge wipers and side mirrors I guess they are on the list?
Love it, everything about it is cool 😎😎
Car is looking great! This ones eventually getting body and paint, right?
Nice haircut Steve 👍 Matt needs to give you some more practice on driving that old iron 😂😂 38 fits you well 😎 looks good
Beautiful car enjoy
White dash casts a reflection onto the windshield, not good.
Mint👍🏻
Is this car going to get a convertible top or a Carson? If it's staying fully open, or getting a Carson, how about filling in the gap between the rear seat and outer body?
Also, do you do anything to make the cars handle and stop better than original?
Oh, and what are 'chatter rods' ?
hoping the white dash is only temporary.
You can paint your 38 fords dashboard another color
@@IronTrapGarage so is that a no?
and BTW, no need for an "in your face" response. it was just a simple hope. most people would simply ignore such a comment, but those that are particularly thinned-skinned feel compelled, i guess.
Here’s the deal, yall do great work, serious skills, love the cars yall work on, but being a paint guy and seeing how easy it would be to clean this girl up it seriously just rattles my ocd something fierce.. fiercely with extra fierceness…🤣🤣🤣
I like this one!!!
Sweet riide
