Move over Queenie...This fabulous singer belongs to ME. lol Gene's also my favorite solo artist of all time. Ok, we can share... there are millions of us. :o)
@@queenofsparrows5497 One of my greatest regrets is never having seen Gene in concert. I have a HATE list for those who have. lol If you actually met and talked to Gene, you go to the top of that list. What I wouldn't give to be at the top of my own HATE list. lol :o)
@@queenofsparrows5497 I'm sure it's a grave visited often by his fans. I live about 7 hrs from Connecticut and maybe one day I'll get to do the same. I know it came as a shock to me when he passed. However, I do envy the way he went. He was found still in his concert clothes, lying on the bed in his hotel room. He did say he'd be exhausted after a concert bc he gave it his ALL. He died of a heart attack in his sleep but he died doing what he loved which to me was a good way to exit this world. :o)
In 1963 the Rolling Stones presented Gene with an incomplete song called 'My Only Girl'. The song was written in the Rolling Stones style which, at the time, did not fit Gene's forte. Gene liked the instrumental track but not the melody. He rearranged the melody to fit the track that had already been commited to tape and the chorus into the main hook to create an ascending, beat ballad. Gene sang over the instrumental track. After a few other changes and a change of title to 'That Girl Belongs To Yesterday', in January 1964 Gene took the first Jagger/Richards song to number 49 in the American Charts.
Nice song. They were before my time, but I some of both artist's tunes. I am sure Jagger and Richards are thrilled their grandkid's friends enjoy their tunes.
Gene Pitney had such a unique voice full of emotion
Such raw talent didn't even need a microphone
Absolutely love Gene Pitney ❤ what a voice 🎉

I share your disappointment. I would have loved to have seen him sing in person. The closet I have been to Gene is when I visited his grave.

Thank you for the lesson my friend❤😊
it made the top 10 in the UK?
@@rond249 It certainly did, reaching No 7.
Written by Jagger and Richard.
Best song they ever wrote.
Yes, that's true but from what I understand Pitney re-wrote the melody pretty extensively to suit his unique voice.
When I know their writing style, I can't imagine how they could compose such a song like that.
@@daniel_2024-5 They also wrote Blue Turns To Grey for Cliff Richard
@@davidglover9210 another good one : "surprise surprise" for Lulu
