If big corporations need a bailout, they should be nationalized. You'd see how quickly they'd stop crying if trump told them that.

There's a legal system of bailouts that all corporations can use if they feel the need. It's called Bankruptcy. ;)

    • @hokeypokeypots
      @hokeypokeypots 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@dandotvid But if they go bankrupt, workers lose their jobs and the corporations go under. If they were nationalized, the government could compensate those workers for their lost salaries and make up for the loss...and make profits...when the economy picks up again.

Not necessarily. Depends on the corp.

@@karmafride1237 Thing is, laid off workers usually don't make enough on unemployment to become entrapreneurs. They usually just join the gig economy to eke out a living and support their families. 8nly someone who has money to invest will take a chance and open a small business in today's economy.
I really have no problem with corporations being sucessful, growing and making money if people want to buy their products. What I resent is that they don't pay their fair share of taxes, demand all kinds of tax cuts, subsidies and incentives be given to them from our tax dollars for employing people or move their corporations to developing countries where they exploit cheap labor, but expect the American government to protect them if something goes wrong and when they make a profit, instead of saving that money, they buy back shares of their stock to increase it's value while laying off workers and expecting the government to pay for their keep. In a downturn, they should just sell their stock to keep themselves solvent or let the government nationalize them.
Also, both corporations and banks should be regulated by the government...they shouldn't get away with crashing our economy, stifiling competition or polluting our environment. We used to have tegulations before the neocons and neolibs gave them a free pass in return for campaign domations after 1980.

I somewhat agree that they should have to trade stock in exchange for a bailout. But this would of course impact the DJIA and everyone's portfolio's negatively. Which is why they print monopoly money and kick the can forward because every other first world country is doing it as well.

These companies should F off. They don't need any kind of a bailout, let them take out near zero interest loans of their massive assets, which aren't going anywhere. If it doesn't work out then still F them, they can always be partially nationalized.

Not f off with our money and bailouts. They can F off with out the wealth they have drained from us. They can leave, but not on public roads or subsidized airport runways. They can't use the public justice system or police help. That needs to be the response for all repeating tax avoiding trash.

As this country has always been a Corporate/Oligarchy, such a change would truly be a cataclysmic change, and that scares a lot of people. Never forget the old Russian maxim : 'Better the Devil you know than the one you don't.' That, whether we like it or not, is how many people feel.

If airlines receive any government money, there needs to be a stipulation that they must stop price gauging. It's outrageous that they jack up fares during school recesses. For example, they know when NYC schools are closed for February recess. Normally a flight from JFK to say, Costa Rica is about $500 per person, but airlines jack it up to over $1200 per person. So during school break, a family of 3 is charged $4k round trip!. A week later, it's only $1500 for the entire family. And who are they hurting? Families and teachers! So what happens? Most families cannot afford to take a well needed vacation and spend quality down time together or they take their kids out of school while school is in session and therefore disrupt their kid's education. This must change. Airlines cannot be bailed out if they don't cease this robbery of working families.

This is our economy now. Every decade or so we have to dump trillion or so, of taxpayers' money into Wall Street to keep it afloat. Think France circa1789.

MARC STEINER: So where does the money come from, then, to invest in infrastructure, in new businesses, and whatever else has to be invested in?
MICHAEL HUDSON: Well, banks don’t invest. That’s a myth. The pretense is that rescuing the banks rescued the economy. But the banks don’t make loans to the economy. Banks don’t make loans to fund factories. They don’t make loans for infrastructure. They make loans to buy assets already in place. They’re privatizing the structure to take it private, raise the rates the people have to pay for services.
Essentially they lend to raiders taking over corporations. They won’t help a corporation put in more equipment and hire more people, but they’ll lend to a raider to break up a corporation, downsize the labor force, smash it up and leave it a bankrupt shell. That’s the financial management plan. That’s what they teach in business schools.
So the financial management philosophy that we have is diametrically opposed to what’s needed for economic growth. That should be what people are talking about, because more and more economists are warning that given the rising debt ratios, there’s going to be another crisis. What we should be talking about when we look back on the anniversary of Lehman’s bankruptcy is how to handle the next crisis in a way that doesn’t bail out banks, that bails out the economy by writing down the debts.
If banks have bad debts, they’ve made bad loans. Banks used to be conservative and prudent. But if they make imprudent loans and they say, we don’t care the borrower can’t pay because we’ve sold the whole loan off to a pension fund or a German Landesbank, and somebody else is going to take the loss, you have to restructure the banking system and the financial management, and take it out of the hands of bankers to manage.
If you leave the Treasury Department and the Justice Department and the bank regulators in the hands of bankers, they’re going to loot the rest of the economy. They’re going to take everything they can. So you want someone who’s not a banker to actually do the regulation.

I've been watching Rising for a while and just recently stumbled upon reports of Krystal/husband engaging in penny stock pump and dumps. This is disappointing (if true) and seems totally contradictory to the message she consistently preaches. Does anyone have additional info?
