Why Modern Comic Books Are Horrible - Jordan Peterson Is The Red Skull?

  • This is why modern comics are so bad. Apparently Dr. Jordan Peterson, a man who has mainly talked about self-help, an individual's place in the world and the danger of being too politically correct, is the Red Skull now. You know, he's that villain from the second WW and one of the most evil people in the Marvel universe... hmm... sure. #redskull #Captainamerica #Marvel

      That, I completely agree with. Unchecked right or left politics and beliefs are bad. This is also a reason why early founding fathers warned against hardline political parties. Sadly, we're now at the point where really only 2 parties are taken seriously, and they're both willing to do some pretty bad things when it serves them. I don't think everyone has to be in the middle on everything, but there's a difference between leaning one way on an issue and just sprinting towards the left or right headfirst with no regard as to what you're actually pushing towards in the end. I get what youre saying, I agree on some points and disagree on others but the title is kinda hurtful to modern comics. Like a few wonky (to say the least) marvel storylines dont speak for the interesting stuff their doing at DC, the always interesting independent comics and the constant fire that Image Comics has been releasing for decades. I feel like making generalizations about one thing while being critical or rooting for change in another is really really regressive in my opinion. I dont think this is a slippery slope situation.

    I feel it’s weird to say things like “comics are not worth reading today” while comparing single issues from a current day comic to Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns, often considered to be some of the best comic books ever made is really unfair. There a tones of comics being released today are worth reading today and writers such as Donny Cates, Al Ewing, Joe Hill and Johnathan Hickman are writing amazing stories that are worth reading. I also want to add the art in comic books now is just as good now than it was back in the 80s and 90s, Greg Capullo, Jason Faboks and Joe Bennett are creating amazing art in comics so saying comics nowadays just have mostly bad art just is wrong. Comic books still have value, if you want to read stuff without political correctness or whatever read less mainstream comics.

    • @DegenerateJay
      @DegenerateJay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know that's fair. I'm not trying to say that not a single one has value, although I know my title is an over generalization. I still think there's good comic series even in mainstream. I think that Spider-Man is doing well right now and so is immortal Hulk and there's a lot of interesting stuff happening around venom. I get its divisive but I also actually really enjoyed death metal. But I think that it's becoming far too common for comic books to be less impactful and more just a repeated cudgel of the same ideas over and over again. Personally I'm a bit tired of that and every time there are interesting changes to one of these universes it finds a way to revert back to its original state in some way or another too. I guess I'm a little tired of lack of creativity, a constant pushing of one ideology even if I sometimes agree with that ideology, it's still a little bit obnoxious, and I'm tired of what is now the accepted standard of comic book art. Not all artists are bad but I feel like the art was generally better 20 years ago. That's all just me though. I'm sure there's a lot of people who love comics to death and think I'm just being a boomer and fair enough.

    I definitely agree that the general societal movement back towards Tribalism has been a serious downgrade towards humanity. As a autistic teen who just wants to learn, see and understand the world it sucks that alot of that kind of stuff are things that already existed years ago and there's no new knowledge and enjoyment to gain. And even though I've lived in the US for all of my nearly 16 year life I don't associate it being the best thing ever. I've learned enough about the natural world and human history to understand that the US is a place, just as any other. It has Propaganda-like National anthems, messed up histories and divided peoples with varying opinions like everywhere else. That's just fact. It sucks though that those divisions of people don't realize that it's ok for others to have different opinions.
    But the human world never changes. No matter the levels of communication, power of weapons or bodies in power the structure of society and it's minute details never changes in the end. Hell, Superhero comics started out as Propaganda Machines, they might as well end that way too. The human world and it's aspects just don't change unfortunately.

    These are the same writers who prefer writing villains because their role models are the ones that failed to improve themselves, since the best villains are failed heroes of the same story ie Spider-mans villains all being arrogant, intelligent or emotionally unavailable which is basically the person Peter was before uncle bens death. The hero is the one who experiences trauma and improves themselves and those around them rather than spreading it: Batman/Joker. Modern comic writers like the villains more because the heroes make them feel like they should be better and you know not the kind of petty lil' b... who makes people they don't like into comically evil nazis.

    Because of some videos in the topic of the new She-Ra cartoon, I did draw some conclusions about the channel. One of them being that they are overreacting. They didn't watched the whole show because of the first season and called it bad because of it. Like, you can say it has a bad start, but that doesn't give you the right to criticize something that you didn't watched. Even some titles are hige exaggerations. In one of them they have said that it was a multi-milion dollars fan fiction, which it makes it sounds like the show was expensive, when in actuality it runned over a small buget. I’m a conservative and this personally disgusts me. I agree with jay wholeheartedly when he said that comic books can coexist with politics but this is horrid. Someone who love captain America and is my favorite marvel hero, I’m disappointed. But hey, what did I expected from someone like Mr. Coates.

      @trey darling please don’t make this a political discussion. I’m not having one. If my comment had been centered around one then I would oblige but it wasn’t. I will say that I am conservative because it aligns best with my Christian views in my opinion.

      @trey darling The Christian views follow the teachings of Christ and the ten commandments. You have baseless claims that we are wrong on all policy? Which ones. The fact that you’re blanket terming either speaks of how misinformed or hateful you are. God does use the death penalty for sinners. Babies whom God has created into this world that are terminated have not sinned. Scientists and the like would be jumping for joy at even finding a cell on another planet because that’s life. A baby starts as a single sell. I can see that my comment was loosely based on politics. I just don’t see how stating ones political belief and that calling someone a nazi is bad as a topic for debate. I can’t speak for our entire population but not all of us the only reason we have to even debate when we post is because people like you come in and shout cries of horror because we believe differently than we do. Not every person believes the same and not everyone should go and call debate someone about their political views unless they are so far as to be a nazi, Marxist, etc. contrary to what you state, I do not want everyone dead. That’s why I’m pro life. I love everyone on this planet because God and the son have loved me. It is certainly not a Christian view to kill a fellow human. That’s one of the first commandments.

    I think the title is generalizing it a bit too much the video is basically more about politics in comics. Comics now don't suck all we recently had Batman Three jokers, Marvel King in Black, Death Metal, Joker war etc . I could go on and on and on its just that some writers put their views in there work and that sometimes compromise the art.

      Agreed. Jake was never really good at titling these kinds of videos.

      Well to be frank, he titles the videos like this to attract new viewers, the title, its attention grabbing, that's the point. What would you recommend he change the title too that will also be attention grabbing?
