THIS IS THE MOMENT WE HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR: WHERE WE COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY DESTROY OUR CHARACTERS- Abbie I laughed at this part😂 I cant wait to do this in my wip. Great job again on the video!
I literally love your videos, I’m only 15 but ever since I found your videos I have felt way more confident about my future in writing. So, thank you Abbie, you’re the best! ❤️
What would also be really helpful is if you could do a case study of one film or book that follows the 3 act story structure, and break down each part using the story as an example 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I’ve been binging this whole series and was disappointed to see that the plot twist case study video had been taken down because of copyright stuff. 😢 Talk about a plot twist!
if it wasn't for abbie i would be absolutely lost in my outline. i love your work abbie and i'm yet to read your writing but based on how much your videos have helped me, i'm sure it's awesome!
I found that in my story, 3 acts is a little limiting for what I need to include in my story. I added an extra act with a little more conflict and action and that linked perfectly into what came next and with your advice and the guidance of the original 3 act structure, I'm all set for my outline! Thank you so much for your videos, they're so helpful! :)
Abbie!! After months and months of reviewing your videos, my story is finally starting to click with the 3 Act Story Structure! I'm so excited!! Thanks so much for making these!!!
All of your videos are presented so beautifully, your voice, your backgrounds, the way of your intro appears (voiceover and video), the way you get to the point simply and informatively (like a summary of a whole chapter of a 'how to' writers book, your PowerPoint reviews and notes - your really wonderful, thanks Abbie I really appreciate all your work and advice
Extra: Even your playlists and cards (links to other videos that you clearly mention THAT we are thinking about as your talking that are there for us.) Thank you so much.
Yes, I've been waiting for this next video to come! I'm excited 😊. By the way, I have anxiety and depression and watching your videos help distract me and get me excited and happy about writing, so thank you so much.
These videos are wonderful and really break down the method to the madness. Today I actually matched each video topic to the plot points I wrote a few months back, and OH MY GOD, they're lining up with my intuition. The changes I'm making are minor, but improving the way I look at the story holistically. Thank you, Abbie!
I missed the Abbie bloopers this week! You always kick my butt into working on my WIPs with your videos **_shame face_** I hope you're still inspired by your new story and are blazing ahead with your writing
Hi, Abbie. New writer here, just want to say I'm really enjoying your content and your take on character is elevating my outline quite a bit. Also love your energy and engagement. Huge thanks - please keep doing what you're doing!
I've been waiting for this to come out. I love all your videos. You helped me become a better writer. They are so insightful. I'm about to go into surgery for my cancer so I can't watch it right now, but this will definitely be the first thing I watch when I'm feeling better. I look forward to your future videos. ❤
I keep comparing your advice to what I know, learn, or can deduce about various authors that I'm familiar with. It really is spot-on and applicable in so many ways! Thank you for breaking it down in an understandable format.
Thanks for this video Abbie! It really helped me. But, I'm having difficulty plotting this point for my story. You see, before the second impossible decision, my protagonist had already made a decision based on her misbelief. But then, the pinch point happens, and instead of it making her take another decision based on her misbelief, it forces her to go against her fears and misbeliefs in a hesitant manner. So basically the pinch point forced my protagonist to make the decision based on the truth, even if inside herself she still has misbeliefs and fears. So she'll have to go against these internal conflicts during her post-second decision journey. Idk if this works in storytelling so now I'm feeling really lost ;; Thanks for you amazing video! You're helping me a lot with my story!
With your case, if you ask me, what matters is how you execute it. Many stories fall victim to this where the protagonist makes the right decision a little too early. However, you can use this to your advantage if the decision she has made is not a decision that could change the whole aspect of the story. I mean it’s not the big decision that can mark the end of the book, as in it’s not the Aha Moment for her. This technique is more commonly used in writing redemption arcs where your protagonist makes some good decisions based on the truth during the acts but ends up making bad decisions at the end of the acts. You could as well be writing a redemption arc but despite the fact that she had to decide that based on the truth, you have to make it certain that her character arc is far from over by making her make several bad decisions that will contribute to the main plot. She can see the light but is fighting so hard to resist it and this can further fuel the inner turmoil your character is undergoing in doing the right thing. This can be really good, if executed well. Don’t be afraid to do so and it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad thing. As Abbie says, the 3-Act Story Structure is adaptable so you can twist it to suit your story in your own unique way,
Thank you again for another AMAZING video Abbie! So helpful and inspiring, as always! And the editing/layout of your videos is so enjoyable and easy to watch. I can't wait for the video next week! Thank you!! :D
Scott Bell, a writing professor at Princeton has a writing out from the middle method. Get the mid-point done and work forward and backward from there.
Thank you Abbie I love so much you are the best I will implement your writing advice because i trust you and I know you will be so helpful in my writing career much love Abbie and I hope all your writing projects are successful and I wish you success in your writing career much joy and happiness your way may you achieve all your writing goals and may God sprinkle happiness and goodluck to you 🤗🤗Thank you so much Abbie for everything 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤💗💗💗💖💜
oh thank you so much . I`m only ten years old in fact not even ten yet and I have so much ideas for a story I`m exactly at the second half of my story. Thank you SO MUCH.
Hi Abbie! This is totally off the point , but could you do a case study of lord of the rings? I think its a great story that a lot can be learned from.
The editing of your videos is so well done! May I ask which programs you use? Also, I know you focus mainly on advice for novel writing and maybe even screenwriting, but could you make a video on writing for TV series or graphic novels too? Last question (Promise): Will you still make a video on book blurbs or do you have it out somewhere already? Thank you!
Hey Abbie, great video as always, but I do have some request. On your channel you mostly talk about the hero's transformation in a positive character arc. Can you make a video about he negative character arc please ? Or even the flat arc, but with a negative result. I don't know if I'm making sense about the flat arc 😅 But I'm trying to write a book in which the main protagonist belives the Lie at the beginning, never learns the Truth and uses the Lie (yes even if it's a horrible one) to destroy the bad guys. So all in all, she doesn't really change during the book (except maybe that at the beginning she believes that Lie but doesn't act on it, she lets others do it. And at the end, she acts on it and does the dirty work herself). Which is why I was thinking about a flat arc, but it seems to me that flat arc characters are still "good people making choices for good reasons". My character is not 😂
Ok this is exactly what I needed!!! Now to write the supposed victory..... Muahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahhahahahahahahahha!! (Insert 15 more pages of evil laughing here) Also question- one of my protagonists keeps having the same thing happen to her. Inciting Incident - gets taken away from someone she loves (protector character) Midpoint - someone she trusted kills two other people she loves. Disaster - her motherly character dies, her protector character "dies" and she thought she had healed everyone and it ended up backfiring. (Note- misbelief is that she needs other people to help her keep the monster she thinks she is under control) I feel like it's a bit repetitive. Or is it *THE ULTIMATE CYCLE OF DEATH AND DESTRUCTION RELATING TO HER MISBELIEF!!* (MUAH HA HA HA) Sorry if this doesn't make much sense. PS. Your channel is amazing!! And I would have never wrote anything worthwhile. (Or sort of fallen in love with my own characters lol. Does that ever happen to you?) Without your channel. I am in complete graditude to the o' great and powerful Abbie!!!
Is it possible for the new plan to just be the old plan but to a more extreme degree? Like if someone is pretending to be someone they aren’t and they realize they need to double down on their charade?
thanks so much! i have a question for mystery story is it important to have 3 act story i some times feel i cant just fit my story in 3 act i need 4 act?
Hi Abbie. First of all I wanna say how amazing this channel of yours is. I sooo appreciate the work and effort you've put in this. I has helped me from time to time and that when writing counts for a lot. I just have one question: any idea on how to tackle this midpoint thing when it's not possible for me to make the main characters act in such a way that they STILL avoid their fears and still make it compelling? Cuz the plot still goes on even without them avoiding their fears cuz the situation is simply far too dire for them to act rationally but also avoid their fears. I fear that at that point it becomes too plot driven and even though the plot is coherent, I worry that the lack of internal conflict in certain moments will kill the reader's interest. If you would so kindly suggest something, I would literally owe you my kidney >
Great video as always. Thanks❤️ I am in the outlining process, but my story just doesn't seem to fit in the three-act structure. 😩I have the important elements like inciting incident etc. (therefore I ”created” my own plot structure, that fit my story) can my story still be good? 🤔 + in your last video you said, that to find my Mc’s misbelief, you should take the truth and flip it upside down. If that’s your theme, then your M.C.’s disbelief could be “War is good”. Such a thing would make your M.C an antihero or an antagonist turned protagonist which can make for very compelling storytelling. Your M.C. could be someone who believes that war is good since it establishes control but throughout his/her journey, many scenarios make him believe that war causes chaos and disaster. However, if this isn’t the case for your character, you might want to rethink your story theme and find your character’s misbelief from that. I hope this helps. Oh and the idea of an M.C. Believing war is good is a very complex theme and you might want to be very careful in the portrayal of war. Not just the violent parts of it but the emotional scars it leaves on people. Your story will be more compelling and unforgettable if you do this cause it creates a certain spark that blends in with your M.C.’s misbelief. And if your M.C. already believes war is bad, then the war storyline will most probably be a plot point or just a subplot. You have to find your M.C.’s misbelief first and I suggest for you to find that, that you take Abbie’s character profile template cause it’s really helpful so that you can know your characters inside and out.
I've been planning out a story idea using the(your) 3 act structure template, but i feel like the story will be, like, unacceptably short for some reason. Is this normal? Anyone who can answer this question, please!

Bless you this is where I'm stuck right now
I had so many epiphanies watching this.
I’ve been binging this whole series and was disappointed to see that the plot twist case study video had been taken down because of copyright stuff. 😢
Talk about a plot twist!
How about some case studies for these more “minor” plot points? Especially examples in stories that are not action/adventure stories. 🙏
your so right. we need case studies and that would be a cool series.
YES PLEASE
if it wasn't for abbie i would be absolutely lost in my outline. i love your work abbie and i'm yet to read your writing but based on how much your videos have helped me, i'm sure it's awesome!

Impossible Choice while disrupting life and the protagonist fighting for/against what's good/best for her/him. Sound like fun... Another great video.
Love that you include examples. The case studies really help solidify the point
These videos are wonderful and really break down the method to the madness. Today I actually matched each video topic to the plot points I wrote a few months back, and OH MY GOD, they're lining up with my intuition.

I've just started writing my novel! I've also bought your book today.Your videos are very helpful.
It's a really good book :3
You always have very clear and precise information. You should get way more views. Usually other authortube vids are vague.

Can't wait for our lesson on the third act :) These videos are so helpful
I'm so glad!
I've been waiting for this!! 🥰
I JUST CANNOT WAIT FOR THAT DISASTER VIDEO MWAAAHA. Awesome video Abbie as always.

Hey Abbie, great video as always, but I do have some request. On your channel you mostly talk about the hero's transformation in a positive character arc. Abbie, You're the best

Question how do you create a confrontation showdown
Great video as always. Thanks❤️
I am in the outlining process, but my story just doesn't seem to fit in the three-act structure. 😩I have the important elements like inciting incident etc. (therefore I ”created” my own plot structure, that fit my story)
can my story still be good? 🤔
+ in your last video you said, that to find my Mc’s misbelief, you should take the truth and flip it upside down.
My truth sounds like (something like ) that: war is terrible!
But I can't use it as a misbelief to my Mc🤷🏻♀️
(Then his misbelief would be: War is amazing, or something like that.

I can’t figure out what video is next? I think the playlist is out of order? I don’t see any video about the supposed victory/disaster?
th-cam.com/video/kqyAEXLjfoU/w-d-xo.html
JSYK, Abbie, you didn't include the Midpoint Pt 2 (case studies) video in the 3 Act Structure playlist, at least where I'd intuit it would go.
I've been planning out a story idea using the(your) 3 act structure template, but i feel like the story will be, like, unacceptably short for some reason. Is this normal?
Anyone who can answer this question, please!
this video is what i needed rn thank you so much!
side note can't wait to destroy my character with the next video
Hey Abbie, I'm sure you know this but your video on Thrillers vs. Romance is unavailable on TH-cam, which I was kinda bummed about. So, I don't know if there's any way to fix that, but I thought I would you let you know just in case! ;)

the perfect example your the best
everything you talk about i can find a charater to relate
I'm re-watching this video, and first, just to reiterate in an email I sent earlier, this series will be a game-changer for me. Second, how would you outline a series (say a trilogy) where you would have the 3 act structure for the series of books, but a 3 act structure for each book. I would love to write a series that's not just a progression of stand-alone books (like the Jack Reacher books), but an interconnected series.

What I am doing is setting up which of the books function as the beginning of the series, then the middle, then the end, and modifying their overarching themes to mirror the three act structure overall. The best advice I have gotten in this regard is to make sure I have a clear image of who these characters are at the beginning, and who I want them to be by the end. And to enhance that with what Abbie always says, utilize their desires, fears, and misbelief to push them in that direction.
Now when I watch TV and the characters say, "No. Wait. What??" I call out, "MIDPOINT!"
I just finished my story and starting to edit it rn. The problem is I didn't started with an outline. Is that okay?
Well as far as I've seen there are two ways of writing novels
1) don't plot and let your mind take you on adventures as you write but then you have to rewrite the entire thing once you finish
2) plot first and then line edit once you finish. There aren't any plot holes in this method so you won't have to rewrite.
Hope this helps :)
I'm curious how these plot points work when you have two narrators. I'm guessing they split the plot points, not that they both have all
Please can you do a how to write an original fantasy fairy tale novel?
Wow I’m early for once
yes yes yes
❤️❤️❤️
Just so you are aware the video you made called How to twist any plot is unavailable
I came as fast as I could.
❤❤❤❤
My protagonist punches the plot
