The Dudenoff stuff not having anything to do with the main plot actually bothered me 😅 they made it a BIG main side plot of the show just for it to be irrelevant??? lame. got invested for no reason lol
Yes it was one of the main problems and for it to get one sentence from Marshall about him knowing how to get in apartment and editing out Sazz's side plot was ridiculous. At least the Dimas crime scheme was very integral to the story lines in season one and why Zoe died and Tim lied and why he was murdered too because Jan jealousy over the ring and jumping to conclusions due to her can't be second best neuroses. The Dudenoff stuff needs to come into season 5 though to help with continuity otherwise it was just half season 4 was unrelated wild goose chase and we still don't understand the cameras or why Cookie was on the Bodega sign in sheet when they cashed Dudenoff's checks and it was merely coincidence Sazz and he ended up in same incinerator and merely coincidence that the Brothers sisters were chosen as directors ???...that seems too far for even OMITB world right?!
We felt more for Bunny when she died and they looked at her life the day she died. We fell in love with her. Before that episode I wasn't crazy about her. I thought she was mean and rude.Same with Saz we knew more about her dead then alive.
I kept waiting for Detective Williams to show up. 😞 I agree with the comments that the motive this season was super weak but I'm already ready for season 5.
Sloppy throw ins just at the very end so they didn't play it straight enough for Mabel to even figure it out from an early episode clue. Like Mabel really figured out the hankie with lipstick and cookie BUT that never happened this time because the biggest clue was just a script in beer Oliver never bothered to look at and she didn't even keep quiet about it but confronted Marshall. She at least kept quiet about the glitter bombed cop for a bit and treated him like more of a danger in Season 2. It's like they aren't getting better at it afterall😢
I personally loved the finale. I thought some of the earlier episodes of this season got a bit lost in the narrative but the finale tied everything together nicely for me, as well as brought the trio together. I think for me it's less about the killers motives but moreso about how the trio works together to solve the murders so they was my focus and less about the killer and the specifics. I think Sazz got the justice she needed and her story with Charles was handled well
I had fun this season. It kept me guessing. Who was the target? Was there more than one killer? Was Sazz really dead? What about the plot holes? It made the season feel a little more spicy. It was clever to have the plot holes re-introduced because Sazz was writing a scene play. Agree, some of the reveals are far fetch. Now, let's get justice for Lester!!!
By far the best breakdowns of OMITB episode. Much appreciated. Totally agree that the finale was underwhelming. Complete lack of suspense. OMITB has always threaded the needle between being silly and a serious whodunit. The whodunit portion of the show was pretty bad this season. That said, the overall writing and the small quips between characters was the best it's ever been. The trio become more beloved and special with each season. Can't wait for Szn 5.
That's the stretch? How about the fact Jan hid in the hallways for 3 weeks and only ate an $8 bag of Pirate's Booty? Or maybe, I don't know, where the fook did she get the rifle? Has Charles just had a high-powered rifle lying about his apartment for 4 seasons and this was the first hint of it's existence? Love the show. But it's always walked a very thin line between silly comedy & serious whodunit. This season, the whodunit was very soft.
@@mr.brownstone5716 All the funny things you mentioned weren't that funny at all. In season 1 and 2 they were able to balance it in a good way. Yes some holes but generally a good mix of funny and mystery.
Enjoyed your reviews, I think that the revealing of the murderer was lackluster and I think doorman probably knew a lot of things going on at the apartment building, so it will be interesting to see his story revealed.
Rex/Marshall never had a plan. His main problem was he was too impulsive and reckless. He never thought anything through. It ruined his career as a stunt person, steal someone else's work, and then try to cover that up by murdering someone... who's best friend was a detective who had already solved three other murders... and in that friend's apartment!
Well, my wife and I were about 75% right about who the murderer was (a stuntman) and that Sazz knew about a stolen script - however it was hers and not Dudenoff - lol - I did suspect Pope as a script thief but not the murder, I too thought he was a double - but as the next body drops - along with the connection to the Dry Cleaning King of Brooklyn or wherever - I hope it’s a better murder mystery than this season
For me personally, this has been the most fun I’ve had with the show since the first one. My personal ranking is 1, 4, 3, 2. Not the most compelling of motives, but I feel the journey to get there and the side plot with Dudenoff/Westies all made for a more whimsical season, that still felt more personal and heartfelt. Some of the eps this season were indeed some of my favorite of the entire season. I didn’t think they could recreate or top the gut-punch of Sazz’s death and the trio’s discovery of her, but man the closing moments and their discovery of Lester’s body was emotional and darkly funny with the callback to them being in the emergency queue. Solid season overall for me. Bring on Season 5.
The writers spend too much time coming up with meh puns like The Brothers Sisters and not enough time laying clues. Like the fact Sazz wrote a screenplay wasn't setup at all and just was revealed straight out of her ass.
I observe with a lot of series. The first season was given time to breathe. Every idea given life. The remainder is trying to do that with studio influence and contract obligations. Art is hard. Respect to the breakdown. So much fun and thought provoking❤
You have really good points about the story could’ve been told in a more deeper way and the juxtaposition of the backstories about the fathers would’ve been GOLD. I wonder if they wrote this season in a rush or something cuz these are really good and basic points that they missed….and the clues were very sparse. Idk I’m not as invested. I watch still cuz I love the trio and it’s very visually satisfying and I miss New York. But if I were to come into this show at any season besides the first one, I wouldn’t have watched it. They need to write it so if you were gonna see any season in isolation without having watched the precious one, you need to be hooked. I really hope the last season is as good as the first one. Your SPIN OFF WITH DETECTIVE WILLIAMS idea is GOOOOOLD
I have to agree with you this finale was kinda disappointed there's so much plot holes with this season. In season 2 we did get a big epic reveal with who messaged the gang "Get Out Of The Building" but with this season we didn't get the reveal who has Sazz's phone because Marshall didn't have it and also the notes that was left on their door since season 1. Maybe that's why Lester is killed since he's the doorman of the building but I'm actually hoping we'll get a villain in the show because in my opinion the show needs a villain at the moment someone who could be a big threat. Also I was really hoping it would've gotten revealed that someone is in fact after Charles because it's really been hinted since season 1 i was really disappointed by that.
I was looking forward seeing how the actual murder of Zaas happened. I don’t buy that Marshall did the whole,e murder and dragging the body. Also the prof Duneoff story was just a filler ? And a coincidence que he also had a prostatic shoulder like Zass ?!?
A thing that bugged me was there wasn’t skeletons from the incinerator. After cremation the bones are crushed to make the ashes. I kept thinking there was going to be a twist in the story.
Yeah, It seems the building was a mob-type headquarters as why else would it have secret passages and an incinerator capable of cremating bodies. They seem to be hinting at that a lot this season.
They hinted it was because builder was voyeur but he could've been mob too and Oliver said it had a brothel once, so hidden passages good for getting illegal hooch and for blackmailing! Lester had some weird bondage photo shoot they seemed to ignore most what he said though so they will feel bad and right their wrongs with that hopefully
@jaclynhilliard8877 I get it but it was back in swinging 60's when shock was the goal and they thought everything was art and groovy lol. I just thought he was needing to get his story in and like the rest being the victim was the way to go. The thing everyone was feeling that was making them suspicious was the writers prepping us for victim hood is all.
Random question: why does Oliver mention a Chuppah about his wedding? I don't remember the results of Oliver's DNA test where he tried to convince his son he's Greek but I'm thinking he was Scottish with no mention of Judaism. Loretta Durkin doesn't sound Jewish either. Trivial thing. Maybe it's because saying "HUPPAH!" is fun?
First off, I love love your idea for a spin-off with Det. Williams & Jan. And, your suggested title is very Rian Johnson. So, let's hope the OMITB creators are listening. Regarding this season & the resolution of Sazz' murder: I feel like the season suffered from a concentration on "bits & pieces" and not on the main mystery. I've seen lots of comments on various OMITB sites that people love the Guest Stars and the comedic touches--but, those scenes ultimately contributed very little to the overall show. So, enough already, writers; your enjoyment in seeing the very talented actors do their thing, does NOT make for a compelling show. To paraphrase Shakespeare: "The Mystery's the Thing." Like you, I appreciated the Sazz/Charles emotional attachment and scenes--especially, even though the show could have gone in a much darker way. Remember, Sazz IS obsessed with Charles: she dresses like him, dates his ex girlfriends, and (while writing her script) SPYS on him. I've said multiple times, that I though Sazz could be the Big Bad, and while the show apparently is not going in that direction (unless Sazz is resurrected), there is enough in their past that could have made Sazz the ultimate Obsessive Fan/Friend/Villain. Again, I liked the sweet Charles/Sazz relationship; but, a bolder move would have been a darker story narrative--and a comment about the Darker Side of Fame. This would fit with Charles as the intended murder victim in Season 3, with the falling sandbag & locked room. Looking forward to Season 5, I see several good possibilities: Charles & Sophia embark on a romance (Charles has already commented on her attractiveness), although she could be part of a Cleaner/Hitman squad. This would also heighten the tensions between the Trio, with Oliver & Charles having romantic partners--but NOT the younger, trying-to-find-herself Mabel. The reason Lester was finally murdered, could be connected to the disappearance/murder of Sophia's husband Nicky; who may have been Lester's former Mob-Boss protector. With Nicky gone/dead, another mobster was now free to kill Lester--without facing retribution from Nicky. This assumes Lester was previously part of the Mob; and maybe his wife was loved by another Mobster, who vowed to make Lester pay for stealing the love of his life. To tie everything back to the Big Bad, in Season 5, I'm sticking with my pet theory. Season 4 was a set-up for a Series Ending Season 5. The loose ends from S4 will come back to help the Trio in S5. The Westies will be back in S5 as either unwitting helpers to the Trio, or unwitting accomplices to the Big Bad. And, finally, I think the Big Bad will turn out to be Prof. Dudenoff--who is NOT dead, having somehow substituted another body (Nicky?) after the Farewell Video he filmed with the Westies, who are unaware of the switch. Those are my theories. Thanks for hosting these OMITB conversations for us. Until next year!!! #Justice4Lester
Season 1 the best. I loved season 2 killer reveal party. First they had us all thinking Cinda was the killer. Going in slow motion and the tomato. That whole bit was amazing. Loved the Glitter guy situation and that Mabel and Theo bonded. Loved Shirley M's role and her relationship with Charles and his father. Very heart warming. I loved season 3 cuz of the music. Loved how Oliver and Loretta bonded. Now that was a beautiful start but this season that relationship story fell real flat. Very disappointed in the writers. If they don't pick up start writing good shows season 5 should be the last season
I do wish we got more from Lester instead of the minor shots he got but I’m happy they are continuing the same plot of somebody being murdered in the building but this was a bit of love hate with the finale.
I don’t think the next season should be the last because we have so many characters to pull from and to have more murders I think we have maybe a few more seasons left before a really big final season
I wonder who inherits Sazz’s estate? I would rank the seasons, good to bad, 3, 1, 4, 2. Even though I identified the killers in season 3 right away, I loved the songs, outside theater location, and the guest stars they were able to bring in.
It all connects everyday people and real psychopaths interacting and still remain a community with outside interaction is really hard to write simply. Most murderers have no sense of their killing of another. Real life interactions with Hollywood Fluff. That's hard writing.
I agree I found the finale a bit anti climatic tbh. I thought they might have had marshall working alongside someone and that person would be the shocking twist. And that Loretta would be the next victim as it would be so heart wrenching it would give that season some spice that it was lacking. I thought a trained sniper with daddy issues was a bit of a cop out for me personally when the writers have done such an amazing job on previous seasons. I was also so sad to realise Sazz definitely was killed as I held out hope she might have faked her death to escape marshall. With the references to surviving the fire stunt I thought in some crazy way Sazz might have survived the incinerator so I was so sad to watch her die all over again in the flashback. She was one of my favourite side characters to the show. I feel like there was almost too many new characters brought in to the story that was unnecessary to the overall plot too and like you say storyline B with duddenhoff was far more interesting than the actual main plot. I am intrigued to see how Téa Leoni will play such a part in season 5. And can't believe sweet old Lester was the victim! That was a shock! Roll on season 5!
I also was disappointed that Sazz is really dead. It’s a sign that the writers are focusing more on the Guests Stars bits, that on an intricate mystery, with twists & surprises. It does seem to be time for OMITB to hang it up, and end its run. The writers are out of ideas.
So.that happened. This is something of a letdown of a season, not because I guessed incorrectly. Everything will be chalked up to the ‘Writers’ Strike’. I liked the confrontation, how it wasn’t funny or showy in the ‘gather all the suspects’ kind of way, since we are dealing with a personal loss of a likable character. It reminded me of Hitchcock’s ‘Rear Window’ (a must watch for mystery/suspense) but this plays so improbably: no accomplice, and Marshall scaled a ledge at NIGHT without falling? IS Jan arrested for another murder, or justifiable homicide? I guess the gun with Rex’s prints is proof enough, but can they prove he killed Sazz now that he’s dead? Wouldn’t Sazz at least change the combination to the room for security purposes? With no copyright to prove the script was stolen, she had more reason to kill him than vice versa! Sazz may have seemed like a better writer bc she wrote what she knew, and many writers advise ‘write what you know’. It was touching watching Charles confront his fear of heights to confront Sazz’s killer and save Mabel.
I don’t like this season bc there’s still plot holes we have to wait to be answered. Who’s watching them? Who poisoned Winnie? Like they brought it up just to bypass it. Like WTH?
Did Lester have the remark about being in.a movie wearing a cgimp mask? With Tia Leoni saying she took a 'shot' was there another movie link, bringing in the father of rex?
Sazz was the closest victim to the audience so I expected a better season. This one was all over the place and a let down. Motive was stupid. The westies made no sense. Could of just been a vacant apartment
Cant i chime in? Can i get my credit for foreseeing season of s4? Check the comments.. i predicted that the gang would go to LA and it has something to do with charles past. I may not have been completely right but i was on the right path. Last week, i gave a clue to watching the first episode again, which heavily included Lester in that episode. The last lines of that episode was Mabel and Oliver, to which he askes if they should investigate the OTHER murder to which Mabel says "Only murders in the building " This was brought up (as i predicted) when Nicky's wife responded "This murder has to do with the building " (S4E8 commentary video is when I commented) I dont chime in for nothing
I didn’t care for this season. Way too many characters and side plots that didn’t tie in at all. I didn’t think the motive to kill made any sense. My favorite season was one. The characters and how they started to bond was so much fun.
This was one of the weakest reveal and season finale of the entire series. I cant believe they went with the most obvious person as the killer. Can't wait for season 5 tho.
@@notamberpit was lazy writing when Marshall said oh I knew about Dudenoff place because of a side plot Sazz had that zi edited out before sending to Bev Melon and for some reason it showed him taking the fireproof vest to snipe Sazz, because that's logical right? !🤷 What a phone it in, rap this finale up under 30 minutes way to crap on the most invested fans AND yes we called it, my 11 year old said oh it's Lester going to die not be the big baddie all along because he has so much info but they sort of ignore him and we never saw his note about the window hole either to compare handwriting. Hoping they threw together season 4 because they have so much more invested in season 5 but doubt I will be theorizing on these sites because felt it was a waste of time. PEOPLE here had better plots and tin foil theories that would've been better than oh my dad made me a secret hunter and I got so Jealous of Sazz I stole her script but edited out the dudenoff story that might still have led to the secret cameras or might not but since Marshall dead we will never know. We also called Jan being the hero in the end, but I was still hoping for a Bev connection or at least Marshall/ Rex split personality good twin/ bad twin to make it make more sense. WHERE'S SAZZ'S PHONE! Why wasn't Glen under police protection? Sloppy, sloppy sadness this time and no redemption moment. I was hoping for a great hail Mary redemption moment in finale and it never came so I was very underwhelmed.
I feel like they’re still trying to hint towards something big, although we found out Sazz’s murderer we haven’t known much about any other issues like who poisoned Oliver’s dog we still don’t know 🤔
Case solved but now it’s time to solve another… what did you think of the episode overall and the ending and thoughts of the overall season…

Thanks for great summary. 👍 I agree, hope that 5.season will be the last but with a lot of answers which we are missing.
If they don't pick up start writing good shows season 5 should be the last season
season 3 isthe cleanest most logical and the fact that in season three it's accidental killing
*“Happy endings are for movies and exotic massages.”*
Showing Lester's death scene was too much. Why would you do that
I wonder who inherits Sazz’s estate? I would rank the seasons, good to bad, 3, 1, 4, 2.
Even though
I identified the killers in season 3 right away, I loved the songs, outside theater location, and the guest stars they were able to bring in.
Also great spot about the dry cleaning link to Lester!!
I also was disappointed that Sazz is really dead. It’s a sign that the writers are focusing more on the Guests Stars bits, that on an intricate mystery, with twists & surprises. It does seem to be time for OMITB to hang it up, and end its run. The writers are out of ideas.
@@117Derek absolutely agree, lets hope season 5 brings back a better format like previous seasons🙏
Last season should be season #5. Maybe a spinoff series called 'Only Murders in New Zealand"

This was our Scream 3 season of the show but done better with less plot holes and great production value
Rex/Marshall is wearing the fireproof jacket when he shoots Sazz? Why? Didn't Rex & Sazz work on that movie 3 years ago?
Ok got a question did the trio find out the that Dickie is her son? I feel like I missed this somehow
Nicky is Dudenoff. Soooo many reasons
my lester theory is he was blackmailing nicky over mob stuff
Sazz was the closest victim to the audience so I expected a better season. This one was all over the place and a let down. Motive was stupid. The westies made no sense. Could of just been a vacant apartment
Cant i chime in?
Can i get my credit for foreseeing season of s4? Check the comments.. i predicted that the gang would go to LA and it has something to do with charles past. I may not have been completely right but i was on the right path.
Last week, i gave a clue to watching the first episode again, which heavily included Lester in that episode.
The last lines of that episode was Mabel and Oliver, to which he askes if they should investigate the OTHER murder to which Mabel says "Only murders in the building "
This was brought up (as i predicted) when Nicky's wife responded "This murder has to do with the building "
(S4E8 commentary video is when I commented)
I dont chime in for nothing
Tea Leoni there's no 'S' in her name
After the underwhelming reveal and side plots that went nowhere, I'm convinced that the show should've ended at season 3!
I didn’t care for this season. Way too many characters and side plots that didn’t tie in at all. I didn’t think the motive to kill made any sense. My favorite season was one. The characters and how they started to bond was so much fun.
this season was terrible and this show has lost all of its cred from 1 and 2. done.
This was one of the weakest reveal and season finale of the entire series. I cant believe they went with the most obvious person as the killer. Can't wait for season 5 tho.
I literally was like “that’s it???” like I was genuinely surprised and a bit letdown when there wasn’t another plot twist.
@@notamberpyeah I was waiting for the twist, like, it couldn't just be that simple
I feel like they’re still trying to hint towards something big, although we found out Sazz’s murderer we haven’t known much about any other issues like who poisoned Oliver’s dog we still don’t know 🤔
They are hinting Torwards something big.. I know those writers and they wouldn’t do this…they are hinting something… CANT WAIT!!
