- Shakti Samanta speaks about his film 'Amar-Prem'. He says, "I first read that novel this is not a very big novel it is a long story you can say then somebody told me that picture was made two-three years before in Bengali I saw that Bengali version and i liked it and I thought it is a different type of thing. Amar Prem doesn't mean that everybody should meet the separation the last portion of that film that story was so beautiful and I said yes let me make it so we tried and fortunately when I narrated the story to Rajesh Khanna. Sharmila of course, she didn't get up from my office that I will do this role I said ok then I told Rajesh Khanna Russian heard the story and said I will definitely work I said Kaka you don't have any dates he said how many dates you want I said I want every day where Sharmila is working but I can do one thing you are shooting up to only 6:30 after that you are not shooting so I'll take all your dates from 6:30 onwards he agreed."

Very well said by Shaktida,really, nobody except Rajesh Khanna could characterize father-son double role in Aradhana and in 80s Dard, really he was a most brrilliant acto, perfectionist by nature b.y God gifted talent. His wise decision to choose Khanna for Aradhana after 6/7 yrs. waiting was really very fruitful and a golden gift for Indain cine world called The Original Super Star

Amar-prem is brilliant story, craftsmanship. Thinking about the climax scene with Shamila-Tagore (felt like my-mother), Rajesh-Khanna, Vinod-Mehra brings tears. It is one of my favorite classic besides Gurudutt's 'Shaheb Bibi aur Ghulam'.

Today (29/12/23) on the birthday of Late Rajesh Khanna I watched _Amar Prem_ for the first time!
It’s a masterpiece when it comes to depiction of human relationships, frailties & compassion! Songs are very meaningful and soulful! They've आत्मीयता & मधुरता - which were so common in that Golden era of Indian film music.

Great director..he is tremendous sense of music..his movies have amazing songs..
Shakti Samanta was a director who presented human relations in the most emotional way.his films used to be based on excellent stories.he presented best of "Bengal" in Hindi films.
Rajesh Khanna and Shakti Samanta-has remained a beautiful combination in the history of Hindi films.Aradhana,Kati Patang,Amar Prem,Anuraag,Ajnabee,Anurodh, Mehbooba,Awaaz,Alag Alag.......The combination flourished and gave us some beautiful films with superb music.Shakti Samanta also worked with Ashok Kumar, Shammi Kapoor,Amitabh Bachchan,Uttam Kumar,Vinod Mehra and Mithun Chakraborty among others.he gave substantial characters to heroines and was one of the very few filmmakers in whose films,heroines had stellar roles than heroes.Shakti Samanta also served as Chairman of Film Censor Board.

The Best of Best Director in the Hindi Cinema. His all movies are super hit. His last directed movie 'The Great Gambler' was superheat movie. He made Amitabh further hit. That movie takes you on a world tour ride in just Rs.50 and in my time it was Rs.3.50. He's a champion in making movie on the foreign location.

What a great man he was besides being one of the greatest film makers. His contribution towards music has been tremendous.
His list of hits is never ending....Jaali note, Singapore, Howrah Bridge, Kashmir ki Kali, Saawan ki ghata, An evening in Paris, Aaradhana, Kati Patang, Amar Prem, Anuraag, Ajanabee, Anurodh, Mehbooba, Balika Bodhu, The great gambler, Barsaat ki ek raat, Amanush, Aamne Saamne, Main Aawara hoon, Palay Khan, Aakhri Baazi, Geetanjali,.......
Even a few months before his demise, I recall he was engrossed in reading a novel in Bengali and was contemplating making it in both Hindi and Bengali. I had the great fortune of spending a lot of time with him right from my childhood discussing and analysing cinema and music. Thanx to my Father who distributed a few of his films, our families bonded well.
He passed away on the 11th of April 2009 but he still lives amongst us through his films. May HIS soul rest in peace forever and his onward journey be eternally blissful.

genius director......asha bhosle still on tv shows listens to some old RD-KK-kaka songs and says ""im lost...those moments, daily meetings which were so routine in my life come flashing back. RD-Kishore- Anand Baskshi and Shakti Samanta/Rajesh sitting in my house and rehearsing, trialling.
those olden days....directors used to sit and spend devoted time to explain the subject, situation clearly to music directors, lyricists would live sing and experiment ...nowadays people are much more busy, fast paced life....MD's record a tune and share digital link with lyricist or singer and then practise alone initially.
