There is no parallels to Pancham Da, one & only takes birth in centuries, his music was like additive, sedative and extremely mind & influencing..
What a kind of music he created just divine, eternal and infinite...
No competetors, no matches his music was distinct and unique ...❤

In Pancham's own words "everything was fine until 1985".. the debacle of "Saagar" (commercially) changed equations. First Ramesh Sippy sidelined him followed by a whole lot..Dev Anand, Rahul Rawail, Raj Sippy, Nasir Hussain. The only people from old lot stood by him were Gulzar Ji and Ramesh Behl. Vidhu Vinod Chopra liked him so much even before coming into films, so when he made his first movie having songs..his only choice was Pancham. He worked with him for Parinda first, followed by 1942 A Love Story. He had to undergo a bye pass surgery in 1989 and then also none stood by him ... not even Asha Bhosale. Vinod has aptly mentioned hete that those (foul)crying on his death were the people who literally destroyed him emotionally.. even his most trusted secretary Bharat Ashar..

Saagar flopped only because of weak script and dimple Kapadia. People did not accept her as a lover girl. She looked too matured for the role. Music and kamal hassan were the only good thing in the movie. After that all ramesh sippy films flopped badly. Music in both akayla and brashtachar were horrible.

Mozart would be good or may be super good.. but RD is "THE RD." He is Infinite.. he is Himself only.. Nothing comes closes to RD music.. Comparing with anyone is like putting him on second number while on number one is the person with whom we are comparing RD.. "Eh Na Chalbo Babu Moshai"

How Panchamda desperately needed ashaji by his side during his bypass surgery at London but she preferred to go for her music tour. His life's pathetic years described in the book of Khagesh dev burman. He needed mental support from his nearer fellow but was ditched. Off course his carefree lifestyle, drinking and smoking is equally responsible for his untimely death.

I remember seeing a documentary on the music of RD Burman that I saw on an Emirates Airlines flight of all places back in early 2000s.
In that there was a section of an interview with VidhuVinodChopra (VVD) where RDB Sahab composed initial music for 1942 ALS and VVD was said he was totally aghast upon listening to it during rehearsal. He told RDB to stop and told him rather sharply he was disappointed and this was not what he expected from a genius like him. Where was all the magic that he had seen from his earlier films? Where is it all now? Gone or hidden?
RDB being a sensitive person, was hurt, but then he renewed his effort and re-composed the music. And this time the music was what we hear today: eternal and melodius.
This I saw in that documentary. I have been searching for this for a long time, but not found it yet.

RD Burman was ignored and film producers were discouraged from using him in the 1980s and 90s. I grew up at that time and the music and movies were absolute trash!
Then there were 4 hit movies that sprang out like a breath of fresh air - Tezaab, Jo jeeta wohi sikander, QSQT and 1942 a love story, all of which had some real nice songs. 1942 was RD Burman's first break after nearly a decade.
That is why they are mentioning RD's neglect by the film industry in general.
See Vidhu Vinod Chopra talk about it here -th-cam.com/video/pSGlU2vOm0s/w-d-xo.html

There was no one like Pancham and there cannot be another pancham. Let’s not talk about the talent and how genius was he because we know that. But, look at the reaction of people who worked with him. It is quite obvious that they are literally shouting and telling everyone that working with Pancham was like family. I have seen entire pancham unmixed by Bramhanand and I came to know how much people loved him. He was genius in creating any musical piece but besides that he was the finest human being at heart who had always collaborated with musicians and gave credit to them for his success. He understood the value of team 50 years back. What a person.
I could see that Gulzaar almost cried at 2.60 You don’t get such talented person with golden heat that often. I wish that at least god had allowed him to witness 1942 a love story success to neutralize all bitterness that he received during his setbacks. Anyways, he is still living through today’s generation as Kavitaji said.

There are people who stayed close to him making observations.
But as a western percussionist with little opportunity to meet him, I have to state that his contribution essentially lies in his vehement emphasis on rhythm that too western rhythm in all songs be it dance or sorrow melody. He has revolutionized rhythm as the integral part of all kinds of songs.

    • @anon-kl8tm

Benedict Debbarma exactly, I do at times feel that hindi cinema didn't deserve his music, hindi cinema was at its peak of masala and commercial endeavour during the 70's and slipped to an all time low throughout the 80's which was the worst phase in the history of bollywood films! RD Burman had all his career during this era, the films really confined him and almost cut off his wings and had him handicapped in terms of going out there venturing into things, exploring stuff and expressing his true self! Just imagine AR Rahman doing music for dabangg! AR Rahman is a genius but it shone the best and he expressed his creative flair either while working with directors like mani ratnam, imtiaz ali, shankar like Is that really a great combination to anticipate, certainly no way! RD did music for majority of such films throughout his career, worse, did loads and loads of films per year, it would have been very difficult to bring freshness( forget innovation) almost running it as a conveyor belt churning out and producing music as in a factory in mass quantity for those truckloads of films! In spite of such times of scenario and circumstances, RD Burman was well... THE RD Burman as you and I, and the majority of music lovers know him!! The greatest innovative composer of Indian cinema, and his musical range extending was literally from kahsmir to kanyakumari !!
