It's amazing how much one can learn from a few piano maintenance videos. In 36 years i've never known about these adjustment screws and how the mechanism works. Only the "pushing the jack out of the way" part makes me a bit nervous as i don't know how flexible these are, whether i can break something if done wrong.
Thanks for this vid - I have severe misalignment with a 1900 piano and you are giving me hope I might be able to fix that. I was beginning to think I might ditch the piano because at any step of the recovery process I might hit a fatal issue, making all previous work a waste of time. I have learned a boat load about how pianos work, not so intimidating.
this is not the best or correct way to make this adjustment. Burning the shank and then bending or twisting the hammer with your free hand in the appropriate direction until it hits the string squarely. Any questions? Have a Nice Day.
