They would never have seen him clean the car, empty the trash in neighbor's bins, return to the scene of the crime at 9 AM if they didn't keep all their collected evidence secret from the public. They had a suspect all along but said they had ZERO leads etc. and got some serious heat from the public. So we should all remember next time to let them do their jobs and stop whining that they are incompetent, not sharing with us, etc.
Keeping the public in the dark and the criminal/suspect is exactly why he is behind bars with treasures of self incriminating activity after his heinous crime.

It's crazy to me that people are asking why it took so long, when it really only took a couple of months to catch him. You guys, murders go unsolved for YEARS and sometimes decades, and sometimes not at all.The fact that it only took them a couple of months to pinpoint him as a suspect and then build a case against him is truly good police work that we should be commending. They prob didn't leak details to the families because their enraged statements prob made Bryan relax and slip, while they continued to peruse him.

What was most impressive to me was the way the police worked with their heads down & their mouths shut. They were busy doing their job, for Pete’s sake, NOT in news conferences responding to the wannabes and all the speculations. It was great when the authorities reported because they had something to report.
In short, it’s ok to keep you mouth shut & head down so people can do their jobs.

I've been saying this the whole time (that the police aren't sharing all they know, not by a long shot) because I know a little about how competent investigations are supposed to work. What's really crazy is how soon people will forget this lesson and go on the repeat their ignorant rants again. Trust me. From my perspective on this issue it's Groundhog Day, the movie version.

I live in a gated community in the Poconos too. The fascinating part is that if the cops were doing surveillance outside his house they were either inside a neighbor’s home or in the woods. Most likely in the woods, because the houses are pretty far apart around here and a strange car in a neighbor’s driveway would easily be spotted. We literally have no car traffic at all at night. Its pitch black outside.
If they were outside in the woods, this was right around the arctic blast that we had around the holidays.

I don’t think BTK really made a rookie mistake, I think technology caught up with him. He took a long break and when he came back he found himself working with new tech that he didn’t quite understand, he didn’t realize that cops could track a file on a floppy disk to a specific computer. His actual routine for his activity was still intact. Our current perp though, drops a sheath, brings a cellphone, and speeds away from the crime scene (speeding is the last thing you should be doing when leaving a crime scene with a weapon in tow and probably covered in evidence). The dropping of the sheath is probably from being over excited, losing control of himself or the scene.

Not sure, but I think the cell phone pings they were talking about occurred in the weeks leading up to the murders and not necessarily on the night of the murders. He was probably doing surveillance (or he just happened to be in the general area going about his normal activities...it's a small town so the cell towers might not be able to narrow down his exact location). Still, I would have left the phone behind. Re the car: you'd either have to steal, borrow or rent one if you didn't want to use your own. Each of those has it's own risk. I probably would have parked away from the crime scene and rode a bike or walked from there.

I guess because he killed four people, he would want to stay under the radar for a while, and not kill anyone else right away, but police should have also watched him every second so he wouldn't kill anyone again. Some of this evidence, like driving around the scene of the crime during the planning phase with his cell phone on, would not be puzzling if he were a psychopath with a low IQ, but for a first-year doctoral student in criminology, the number of stupid mistakes this guy made are incredible, and it's almost like he planned to be caught, but for it to be in a way that would be drawn out so he'd get a lot of attention. Sadly, that is why it is possible he made his first murder so gruesome, because he wanted it to be more sensational than just killing one person. Every new thing I hear about this case, it's like good grief, seen by police putting his garbage in a neighbor's bin at 4AM!

Crimes that have been committed by someone with no motive are often the more difficult cases to solve, because the first suspects are those who are close to the victim/victims and know them well and have a potentially strong motive to commit the offence, in almost all forensic documentaries this is standard procedure to investigate all of those closest to the victims, frequently a spouse or significant other, or family members and friends.
Of course there are many serial killers that use this to their advantage, and often get away with the crimes for years before they are caught, however, more often now than ever before, they are apprehended and eventually convicted.
I am actually surprised that law enforcement was actually tracking him so closely and were keeping him under surveillance after he returned to Pennsylvania with his father. What is really amazing is that they gave him a false sense of security by not arresting him earlier, particularly when the State Patrol had stopped them in either Indiana or Illinois, but just let them go with a warning, after that I am sure that the suspect had really felt like he had gotten away with it all, and that he could hardly control himself. Little did he know that big brother was watching him closely.
I wonder how many times he has gotten away with murder before this? Since it is highly unlikely that he killed four innocent young people with a knife 🔪 all in one night, in one dwelling, by himself, for no reason, without having done so before, of course it is only theoretical speculation now, but I am fairly certain that there are a lot of people thinking this very same thought.

Questioning why Dylan waited 8 hours is NOT victim-blaming. It’s common sense. I’ve been in situations where I’ve frozen and fainted from fear. But 8 hours is a LONG time not to do anything even after hearing crying and thuds.
I get locking yourself in your room, but why not text one of your roommates to see if they’re okay?? She knew something was wrong with Xana and didn’t even go check the second time BEFORE seeing Bryan. Even after, she didn’t even wait half an hour - an hour to call police to make sure she was safe. She waited an entire 8 HOURS. She wasn’t so frozen that she couldn’t lock her door and walk herself back to her bed.
How do we know he was at this house 12 times prior bc he was stalking them - what if he had something going on with Dylan? Why did he spare Dylan in a bedroom on the same floor as the two others - he just so happened to ignore her bedroom (the closest one to the stairway and the sliding door) TWICE and went into the far one? How did he know his way through the house? How did she see his DARK eyebrows in the DARK??
Also, why was food truck Jack following them THAT night? Why did he ask “Was anyone else arrested?” as he was being taken out of his house? Bizarre and that’s just the REALITY of it.
I think everyone needs to remember that he has a family too. It’s not only about the victims and their families. His family didn’t do anything wrong as far as we know right now and this is probably just as hard for them. That’s still their son. They’re losing someone too.
