There is no anime character as pure as Himmel. He will not be surpassed. And I like to believe that HImmel never confessed. That Himmel understood Frieren and her perception of time. And that he felt a confession from him would be self serving, and instead he knew how she felt, the limitations of her emotional understanding, and that he did everything he could to support her into the future in ways she was comfortable as a way to express love in the way he was able, and that he was happy to do so. He's the most selfless perfect man I can't even begin to understand.
He truly is one of the most genuine characters I've gotten to watch! Love him 🥲
If I am half the man Himmel was, i will considered myself lucky

He knew, he knew she would never get it and would never feel the same way for him as he did for her. But he accepted that reality and choose to love only One Woman till the day he passed.
(Edit) Also looking forward to a certain future episode with Stark and Fern knowing that I am likely to see you melt from the cuteness.

3:25 if you're curious, they're both around 18 now. But they grew up pretty isolated from people their own age, so they're still figuring things out.
Himmel is one of my favorite characters of all time and I have seen hundreds of anime
He gave Frieren true love and the only battle he could not win was his battle against time. If you look back in this episode the thing that was literally separating them was the clock. How could he tell her he loved her when her time is so much longer than his? Imagine how much that could potentially hold frieren back the rest of her life. He didn't want to be a potential shackle and instead of confessing he seemingly sprinkles his ways of affection in throughout their time together probably knowing that Frieren wouldn't ever understand during his lifetime. He loved her anyways despite never truly telling her how he felt.

Imagine realizing 80 years later that a close friend had feelings for you and they're never coming back... Himmel dropped to his knee and Frieren back then had this face like "wait why are you kneeling to put this ring on my hand" 😂 😢 😂😢 😂😢

I want to give you credit Abi, you are one of the few reactors (might be the ONLY female reactor) to read that line from Sein about men not caring about birthdays and anniversaries and not immediately knee jerk to the opposite extreme. In a broad sense, as a man I kind of get what he means. Me personally, just thinking about how I feel about my own birthday, I treat it as any other day. Any celebration or focus on it is solely for the benefit of those that want to celebrate it with me. Additionally as is stated later and I am sure you will agree with Sein on it, Stark didn't even recall his own birthday and so it's entirely possible he didn't even know it was her birthday until it was brought up and at that point she was already upset. If he also didn't know prior than her being upset at his lack of getting her a gift is even MORE illogical than it already is on it's face.
The clever thing about Fern and Stark's fights is that most of them initially seem like a stereotypical lovers' quarrel, e.g. "he forgot my birthday", but once they finally communicate, it turns out the real conflict is about something entirely different.

Himmel IS Him! Every man should aspire to the greatness that is Himmel and every heterosexual woman should want a man with the greatness that is Himmel. Also on that note, I am not sure if you've heard the news but in the last week (I believe) in Tiawan a man saved someone from a knife attack and when asked about this act of courage and why he would interject he stated "It's what my hero Himmel would have done.". Legit story you can look up and confirm and one I think everyone should hear.

I could be wrong. But I don't think there's a big difference between Dwarves and Humans in duribility in Freiren. I think warriors can train up their duribility. Stark has done that to some extent which is why he can tank a axe to the stomuch. But he's not on Eisen's level yet.
