I was just speaking to a friend who kind of acts as my spiritual director about this. I struggle very strongly with balancing my work with the rest of life. If I’m not at work, I’m thinking about work. Very timely, thank you Bishop. I’ll watch it in it’s entirety when I leave work (I know, I know)
I'm a worker with disability. Add to the fact that I am a woman, sometimes dignity is hard to come by even with my female fellows. My paid jobs are few and far between because that's how the Ticket to Work Program works. The Government and the Church both feed the Soul of the working world. I'm either in some kind of school or work or both at the same time because of the nature of my disabilities. My favorite work is actually practicing my conversations with God, because it makes me better for my community. I'm going to try to give up lecturing God for Lent and take enough time before to hear Him speak to me first. Thank you Bishop Barron. Thank you W.O.F.
Hi Bishop Barron, I agree on some of this, but I will disagree on one point since I experienced it for the last year and a half. Industry is not always the foil to melancholy if your day job is one that is not fulfilling. For my experience, I was stuck in a job that didn't pay enough, didn't want to utilize me (they kept saying I'd get a promotion for 4 years and it never happened), and where the contract was being reworked such that work slowed down and it was unclear if I would continue to have a job. So everyday going to that job was like a dirge, even though the work was something I generally liked doing. The only way I have gotten work to feel better was to leave that place. But searching for jobs and getting rejected hundreds of times over the course of a year and a half was not a remedy to melancholy either.
That's a nice topic to discuss. Could you please make a episode dedicated to the problems (faith, motherhood, relationship with mens..) which young women faces nowadays like you the one you did why men? The title would indeed : The Fall-and Rise?-of Women. Thanks!
If we are just and if we are pious, the Spirit of Holiness can be in us If we fast and pray night and day, the Spirit of Holiness can be in us It is written, to be read Prophets Saint Simeon and Saint Anne, Pray for us
in my opinion, we are created in the image and likeness of God the Son, and that is how we come, we are born as Happy children then we make ourselves miserable in our infamous decisions
80-hour workweeks? Sounds like a recipe for burnout, not holiness! Work is good, but didn’t God Himself rest on the 7th day? Maybe we should stop measuring our worth by our busyness and start seeing it in light of eternity.
This concept of things I don't get. The way I see it you should be working and or caring for family. What's left is your "leisure time". "But what about me?" Not a Godly question as I see it.
Is there an easy way to recognize truth? Is there an easy way to show something is untrue? Is it possible to have consistent beliefs about things that are untrue? Is this why there are vast schisms within all religions and god beliefs? Today let's focus on the schisms that exist in Christianity! From Catholics, to Protestants to Calvinists to Mormons...Christian beliefs are all over the map. What if the Calvinist's have it right...God has already chosen who will be saved and who will be condemned to hell so none of it matters anyway:). That is also why you had Christian's who supported Hitler and why you have Christians who support Trump now and you had and have Christians who believe both these men are abhorrently evil. You have Christians who vote to force raped little girls to give birth, vote for never ending gun violence, vote for inaction on climate change and health care costs and tax breaks for billionaires and you have Christians who vote exactly the opposite. Because in the end Christians are just flawed human beings who are good, evil and in between just like all other human beings. Now Christian's apologists will attempt to divert these oberservations by claiming it is because of "sin". But why would those who believe in christ do evil things and those who don't believe in him do good works? Why does it take the lie of Christ or Muhammad or Joseph Smith to make people who would fall naturally on the good and peaceful side of society do evil? Why do 99% of people know that Earth is a globe? Because truth leads to consistent belief something that Christianity fails at completely!
"Industry is the enemy of melancholy." Brilliant!

It's working for a living that was the curse working for pleasure is what is part of what God has built into us.
Perhaps we should make all work God's work and not our work but to benefit others. Keep the Faith

Cause is the foundation. But what if cause is physical ?

Someone once said enjoy what you do and you'll never work a day in your life
Idle hands is the devil's workshop. That's what my granny used to say.

Jesus, son of Joseph. Yeshua bar Youseph, was his surname, wasn’t?
