@kittentacticalwarfare1140 "Free Will" only enters Christianity in the 4th Century, so it's not only irrelevant to authentic Christianity, but it's actually explicitly condemned by Paul in Romans 6. I was going to make the same comment! I think one of the points of this Scripture is to declare Jesus's eternal existence. Yes, Jesus was born through a human birth, and existed as you have seen Him on this earth. But He Existed before that, even at The Beginning. This points to Jesus's Divinity. Just as does Jesus Showing up on the earth before his human birth, showing up as The Angel of The Lord repeatedly. This shows His eternal existence, before He was born of a virgin.

*When I was 8 years old I asked my grandmother where did.God come from? She said...”our minds do not go back that far” Still true today, decades later.*
Interesting but God is not a being like we or anything we know IS, he is outside of time and never “came into being” like everything in this universe did. I agree our minds cannot fathom this but it is important to acknowledge that God is not just another thing in the universe, in contrast, he UPHOLDS everything into being - please reference the thomistic insitute on this matter - they do an amazing job
It's good that reasonable men gather together to discuss Jesus Christ. I pray they come to know Him and develop a personal relationship with Him. Jesus is much more than the single most influential person that has ever been. He is GOD.
Now this is wonderful to see. Intelligent, mature men all gathered together to openly and honestly dissect one of the oldest and most polarizing pieces of literature in human history. We need more of this in society. Thank you for this series.
Maybe we need more of this in your society, but not remotely every society needs to dissect a book where people were grasping at straws thousands of years ago. It illuminates the ignorance of mankind, not much more. The Universe is ultimately chaos, and we distill a small part of it to find enough of a pattern to avoid enough things. That's mankind's situation. Brains give the chaos meaning, but the meaning isn't there without the brain, understanding of space and time even as separate things isn't there without the brain. What makes how we change over time "time?" What makes our one eye a 'similar thing' to our other, or even part of the same thing, without a brain? One eye can in fact be the enemy of the other, the brain enemies of them both, the liver enemy to the blood and vice-versa... it's all chaos, and we don't survive it, we just find enough patterns to keep our "kind" going, a very top-level construction of "society" above a terrifying truth.

@DanielleRosaria So what you are doing when that is happening is some kind of semantic archeology. By learning how a different set of cultures grouped concepts together in some foreign way to us, we can restore a kind of facsimile of an ancient frame of mind. The wisdom of the ancients is encoded by and also inbedded within language.
To John’s point (5:40), it was some years back, in my 20s, that I had the realization, the revelation if you will, that relationships are the fundamental metric of the universe/existence. I found it to be very profound at the time, and even shared it to my Facebook, thinking this insight would resonate with people and they would have their minds blown by it. As mine was. Now it’s something I simply take for granted. But I also learned that a revelation isn’t accessible to everyone around you, like John also points out, because of certain entrenched paradigms. It is deeply personal and relational in and of itself. “Knock and the door will be opened, seek and you shall find.”
Yes i imagine many in science/academia use the principle relationship of the Trinity by describing things in the universe as having a relationship with each other without even realizing it. And at an even deeper level, using the analogy of language, which is an immaterial entity, to describe the physical universe. One cannot even use language or learn except to accept, a priori, that the word is equal to the object it is speaking of.
These men are individually brilliant and to see how each struggle to formulate their thoughts and understanding of the scriptures tells us how profoundly complex this book is!
When the Bishop speaks, WOW. The man exudes not only intellectual authority but, more importantly, he exudes a peaceful spiritual connection to word of God some of the others only philosophize about. What an absolute TITAN of a man
Nope. Read 1st Corinthians 1:17 to the end of chapter 3. People probably described Paul as you do *WHEN PAUL WAS A LOST PHARISEE* Before he was transformed 180 on the road to Damascus (as recounted three times in the Book of Acts) and became a new creature (2 Corinthians 5:17) and born again/born of the Spirit (as Jesus says "you must be" in John chapter 3) i.e he became a Christian by definition: John 1:12-13, Romans 8:9. When was this "bishop" born anew? When was he made brand new? That's all that matters. [The RC doctrine is that regeneration - being born anew - takes place at infant baptism but that contradicts numerous New Testament passages (so does infant baptism itself!) not least the analogy that Jesus uses of the wind in John 3. You cannot predict it. You cannot schedule it. The RCC schedules infant baptisms. We are saved by grace through faith [trust in Jesus]: Ephesians 2:8-9 but conversion i.e 180 transformation happens some time afterwards, through the Holy Spirit as God wills it. Read Acts chapter 1. *THEN* we know that someone is truly a child of God (John 1:12-13, Romans 8:9, 1st John): by the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-24) and by how righteous their life is (1st John chapter 3). If the Holy Spirit indwells (John 14:16-17, Romans 8:9 & 14 etc) then the fruit is righteousness.

@@ShonMardani It's also an ancient greek word which translates as word. In English Logos translates as the plural of ''a graphic representation or symbol of a company name, trademark, abbreviation, etc., often uniquely designed for ready recognition''
That’s not what that verse says at all, and it’s especially not what is indicated in the original Greek text ἐγὼ εἰμί (I am) either. The interpretation that Jesus was calling himself the Father YHWH as in Exodus 3:14 is bunkum. To back this up, this exact same sequence of ἐγὼ εἰμί is translated as “I have been” in John 14:9. It’s also used countless times by many other people other than Jesus in the New Testament. Jesus is simply stating that he existed before Abraham even came into being, to make a point. He’s not saying he’s the Father YHWH. Making such a correlation through bad English translations is an enormous stretch that for some reason has caught on like wildfire, but it’s NOT accurate and this should not be used as support for the divine nature of Christ. John 1:1 shows Christ’s divine nature: καὶ θεὸς ἦν ὁ λόγος “and divine was the Word.” (Theos here is missing the definite article, so it is important to note that it is therefore adjectival and qualitative in nature, unlike the first instance, and is thus better translated as “a god” or “divine.”) John 8:58 should not be used to make claims that Jesus himself was not making. To do such is to put words in his mouth, when he tells us himself who he is: the only-begotten Son of God. He’s not YHWH.
How can a word be the first thing to exist, when it requires all kinds of complex things to make happen? Words don't really do much--if everybody sat around and talked to each other all the time, nothing would happen.

This points to Jesus's Divinity.
Just as does Jesus Showing up on the earth before his human birth, showing up as The Angel of The Lord repeatedly. This shows His eternal existence, before He was born of a virgin.

The corn. I the first AM the last. I’m The Spirit Of Truth, what is it that you seek?
Yes i imagine many in science/academia use the principle relationship of the Trinity by describing things in the universe as having a relationship with each other without even realizing it. And at an even deeper level, using the analogy of language, which is an immaterial entity, to describe the physical universe. One cannot even use language or learn except to accept, a priori, that the word is equal to the object it is speaking of.

Read 1st Corinthians 1:17 to the end of chapter 3.
People probably described Paul as you do *WHEN PAUL WAS A LOST PHARISEE*
Before he was transformed 180 on the road to Damascus (as recounted three times in the Book of Acts) and became a new creature (2 Corinthians 5:17) and born again/born of the Spirit (as Jesus says "you must be" in John chapter 3) i.e he became a Christian by definition: John 1:12-13, Romans 8:9.

11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Yes Jesus is God these are some verse to back up the divine nature of Jesus.
Logos is a Farsi/Persian word " ناموس - namoos " which means "Honor".
John 1:1 shows Christ’s divine nature: καὶ θεὸς ἦν ὁ λόγος “and divine was the Word.” (Theos here is missing the definite article, so it is important to note that it is therefore adjectival and qualitative in nature, unlike the first instance, and is thus better translated as “a god” or “divine.”)
John 8:58 should not be used to make claims that Jesus himself was not making. To do such is to put words in his mouth, when he tells us himself who he is: the only-begotten Son of God. He’s not YHWH.
It means that everything, including time and matter was spoken into existence by God
The Word is “I AM”
How can a word be the first thing to exist, when it requires all kinds of complex things to make happen? Words don't really do much--if everybody sat around and talked to each other all the time, nothing would happen.

but sometimes they do too much thinking about verses that are simple to understand but I guess God reveals himself to people in different ways because it seems like poor people have stronger faith & that's probably why Jesus came to the world thru a poor family and spend most of his life among the poor.
I will shine your light over the darkness a very overshadowing of darkness your light will reflect your glory your power will be seen on display in that time upon great victory shall you overcome for your glory our God is...his word will be like a rainbow the kind of word that has fulfillment
I somewhat recently retain the view that our vibrating reality is literally the word spoke in to existence. Refining the highest essence through experiencing itself
The Good News that we can defeat the greatest enemy of humanity, human nature, by adopting the nature of God which is freely given to those who believe in the life and death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
It’s a message of redemption, immortality, morality, transcendence. A true work of art.
The Word is God
Human nature isn't the enemy rather death is the enemy... Not to be nitpicky lol!
Eternity won't be enough to explore His depths!
@@louisastrickland-j7m amen. The anticipation...
I love this conversation and I'm looking forward to the full series.
When did this discussion take place, and what will the series be called?
The word, to me, is sound that creates understanding and consciousness between two beings.
The hustle is strong in this one... you can get this free from your local church.
“The word became flesh and dwelt among us”(that’s Jesus)
“My word always accomplishes what it is sent to do”(that’s Jesus)
My thoughts; when someone speaks, there is a person who also has a voice; the person is not the voice, and the voice is not the person, but the voice and the person are inseparable and simultaneously exist together; the person uses the voice to communicate; to transmit information; to affect the environment. God has always existed and has always had a voice and that voice is the son. When God speaks, it is Jesus that proceeds. Any effort to explain this will undoubtedly wind up in some ditch along the way since we are infinitely less knowledgeable than the Word that made us. Just my thoughts. Happy thanksgiving everyone.
Just praying my little bro comes to God before its to late.
"The Word" is Jesus the Christ, the Son of God
The physical body of the Son of God was not in heaven with God when he created everything in the beginning.
It was Gods thought/plan that was there all along
The Word is God. He is teaching us His thoughts and His ways. The Word was with God in the beginning. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. The parable of the Sower is where the word was planted "first". Naturally, the word was planted first. just thinking out loud :)
”You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me” John 5:39
He is ultimate reality. To gain wisdom and understanding is to get to know him.
