Another product review that really is less a product review and a discussion about a new bit of tech. I was fascinated by these sunnies the moment I pulled myself off the floor (having fallen over laughing at them), and just had to have a go of them myself. I must admit I don't think the camera does these justice, there really are quite impressive to look at, the moulded glass around the nose is something else.
Like always, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
    Product Notes:
The KATO by OAKLEY is a commercially oriented version of the Olympic model. Interchangeable nose pads out of non-slip UNOBTAINIUM let you adjust the distance between the lens and your eye, while the clever rake mechanism lets you adjust the tilt. This means that the KATO models can be individually adapted to any face shape. The 3-point fit and feather-light temples made of O-MATTER frame material ensure perfect wearing comfort.
    FRAME:
    • Disruptive design that fits close to the face
    • Adjustable angle through rake mechanism to create the right fit on the cheek
    • Durability and high comfort thanks to feathery light, robust O-MATTER frame material
    • UNOBTAINIUM material nose pads in three different thicknesses and depths ensure a perfect fit and a non-slip grip
    • Wide field of vision due to HIGH WRAP SHIELD and EXTENDED FIELD
    LENSES:
    • Revolutionary freeform glass design allows for extended glass enclosure and stability in key areas
    • UV PROTECTION
    • HIGH DEFINITION OPTICS technology for HD vision
    • Contrast-enhancing PRIZM technology
Comes with 3 nose pads, a case and a microbag
The sunglasses are compliant with Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and the harmonised standard EN ISO 12312-1:2013/A1:2015.
    Model information:
    Polished Black
    • Frame colour: black
    • Lens colour: PRIZM Black
    Polished Black:
    • Frame colour: black
    • Lens colour: PRIZM Road
    O-MATTER:
The durable, lightweight and very comfortable O-MATTER frame material increases protection and provides a flexible fit.
    UNOBTAINIUM:
A hydrophilic material used for nose pads and temple ends. The grip increases as the level of moisture (sweat) rises.
    HIGH DEFINITION OPTICS:
OAKLEY has developed High Definition Optics (HDO). This term refers to a number of patented lens technologies developed in-house for special optical accuracy and fidelity. However, the HDO technology stands out not only for precision, but also for innovative impact resistance. HDO meets strict safety standards and ensures a 100% filtering of UV light. OAKLEY HDO protects the eyes and makes sure visual information will reach the brain with maximum precision.
    PRIZM ROAD:
PRIZM is an OAKLEY lens technology that offers optimized visibility for specific kinds of sports and activities by fine-tuning individual wavelengths of colour. As it emphasizes colours where the eye is most sensitive to detail, PRIZM improves performance and safety. Thanks to the use of specially manufactured lens tints, the OAKLEY PRIZM technology is able to filter light that affects vision in a negative way and to emphasize colours required for perfect performance/vision. The PRIZM technology fine-tunes vision for specific sports and environments and thus sharpens visual acuity to reveal nuances that would be missed by the naked eye.
PRIZM ROAD lenses help endurance athletes to better see changes in road surfaces and obstacles like small rocks and potholes, so that they can react quickly and achieve peak performances. Besides, the lenses enhance contrasts for increased safety on public roads. The lenses offer optimized vision in bright light and in the shadows. White and yellow road markings are clearly visible and traffic signals brighter. Besides, the colours of sky and green are intensified for a pleasant ride.
    Light transmission: approx. 20%

I've the Jawbreakers and when I got them I thought the were radical but these are a different level! The Jawbreakers have a vison blind spot at top when on the drops but I only see the nose section if I'm checking my Garmin. If Oakley did a solution to the top blind spot (extend the lens upwards) then I'd me more tempted to buy a new pair than giving a better view of my Garmin.
I think they've solved a problem that may not be a cycling problem, they've solved a vision issue for leisure or a sport where you are upright looking forward where you now have a cleaner line of sight.

I don’t think there’s anything that strange about them, besides the Sutros, Oakleys range were starting to look a bit last decade compared to newer brands like 100% which really shook up the market, these look cool.
I tried them on and all I could see was the thick nose piece dominating my vision, otherwise I would have bought some in the future

I LOVE them and have the Blue Sapphire Prism Kato X. EVERYTHING is amazing, but the nose piece is wide and does jump into your peripheral vision. I'm not sure why Oakley didn't shave the width that sit against the lens. I may cut down one of the extra nose pieces, and see how they work. It's the same attaching mechanism as other Oakleys, just surprised the width of the rubber that sits against the lens is so wide, not the part that connects to your nose.

Never once have i ever worn one of their other frames be it a zero, radar, m frame, jawbreaker and gone gee my field of view is restricted, poor or inadequate haha. But these kinds of designs are what keep them at the head of pack, exactly like you mentioned with zub OTT'S, sub zeros, eyeshade etc it generates hype and intrest.

At the gym try ‘super-setting’, 1 set of a pushing exercise, 1 set pulling, 1 set legs, repeat again. If you’re only going to gym 2 or 3 days in 7 this will work well, cuts down on down time ( boredom) and increases all- body intensity. This is a great way for cyclists/ runners etc to train. Remember , only muscle heads/ body builders believe the body is made up of a lot of isolated parts, athletes know the body is a beautiful piece of integrated systems!

      @sharonmoller7414 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @danielvdl7555
      @danielvdl7555 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@sharonmoller7414 yes and no they are what you make them. For proper strength work you need rest you can't just go from 1 exercise to the next to the next. It does tax other systems. It's similar to saying you can do sprint work by riding at threshold.
Yep it's great to be rounded as a human but not always conducive to being a great cyclist.
And what makes a strong core and back. Chris is doing deadlifts I would say this is one of the best ways to develop core and back strength. Add in some Bulgarians more great core and stability work while working on the main goal of working cyclist specific muscles

    • @sharonmoller7414
      @sharonmoller7414 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@danielvdl7555 yeah all the deadlift variations, single leg stiff-leg lifts I feel my sense of balance is improved by.
I guess my perspective is about the debate whether a cyclist is a machine or a human, dare I say a well rounded human. A bit like the debate “is a cyclist made or born great?” Mentality versus physique, the most perfect cycling workout risks yielding limited results if it’s too mind-numbing and difficult to motivate an otherwise outdoorsy athlete (like me!) who has a short attention span to set foot in the gym. A compromised workout no doubt yields less results but if it’s more mentally stimulating then its more effective as a motivator even if it isn’t the most perfect cyclist gym session.
I count myself as well-rounded-human-cyclist, like others I must work a day job to pay bills, I do work around the house etc. Many are also raising active kids, doing all the life admin, so being a well rounded human (mentally/ physically) is necessary to keep up with those demands, not just while on the bike.

As every day IMO no, right application yes, at a high level yes. Me at the club crit....... NO. It's like riding an aero bike and only averaging 25km/h, or paying 15k for a light weight bike with 10kg excess on the bod

They look super goofy. But, if they had more of a Jawbreaker shape to them, they would be cool. They are too horizontal and make you look like a unibrow-cyclops.

Three lifts one after the other with no rests focused on different body parts. No rest, it's alot of fun to do when taking someone along to gym. Two circuits of these and all good. I'm very casual lifter but goes by faster and fun to do with others.

The real question is, if Bruce Lee was still alive would he wear them?

These aren't really any more ridiculous than the rest of the kit one wears while cycling.

Why do all cyclists wear Oakleys when there are MUCH BETTER brands out there?

I'm super confused. I can barely take you seriously wearing spandex everything. How much do the glasses really even matter in comparison? You wear spandex for performance, so wear eyewear for performance too... Cheers mate lol

I'd wear them cycling for sure. But walking around everyday sunglasses? Nope.

Really ugly. Would be great to see a wind tunnel test of different sun glasses... Used to wear Oakleys and other "aero" glasses - since I ride under 25mph, ALWAYS, Goodr, and similar, are just fine...

Great video until you started trashing other vloggers. Seems unessential. Your video is good mate, but ain’t going to get better by talking down someone else.

lololol you saying they look funny... Dude you are wearing a purple, tight suit and a bike helmet. As a bike guy, I think you are blissfully unaware of how goofy non bike guys think you look. I would start there, if you are actually concerned ha
