    Hi Joey, I took the disc to Daddy's sweet corn stalks this week, and then sowed turnip greens. He loves turnips and cornbread. I love the greens, have never liked turnips.
    More of us need to be willing to be as bold as you and state our faith and willingness to share.
    Hope to make it to plow day, and bring a couple of horse drawn pieces, maybe a mule drawn tobacco sprayer.

    Once the Shuck's start turning brown a little on the tip. We pull ours and shuck it then put it on our antique corn dryer's for seed's.

    • @Jtwes
      @Jtwes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Danny
      I was just telling another subscriber I was thinking about hanging some by the shuck in the tractor shed. Hope your feeling better. I really liked that chome stack it really made it look good. If I do put a flapper on a muffler I put the hinge towards the front of the tractor so if I go under a limb it will push the flap down instead of catching it.

    • @DeepSouthHomestead
      @DeepSouthHomestead 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jtwes you can find the antique corn dryer's on ebay for around 12 dollars each. I got me six of them for saving my seed's. Thanks for the idea on the flapper makes sense.

    • @natevanlandingham1945
      @natevanlandingham1945 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You also want the flapper facing backwards because if you trailer it the wind forces the flapper open the whole time. If you went through and rain it will direct water down into it, if you are in any dirt or dusty area all that dirt will go into the muffler and probably make it past the open valve and into that cylinder.

    I believe you've got that old cultivator figured out Joe. Grandpa had a small horse drawn turning plow he used to lay stuff by with called a Boy Dixie. If Mama was living today, she'd tell by all means to sow a salad patch. She could eat it 3 times a day. Give her a pot of salad, some corn bread and butter milk and she was good to go.

    First off thank you for the open email invite for folks searching for the Lord - we need more like that. But as far as the verbal commands that's probably a matter of what you've got your horse or mule train to. And since I don't think Will will respond to much but stop, go, right and left you might better stick to that. And then the old 140 well it really don't care it only understands foot and hand signals. 😂😂😂😂. Your doing a fine job thanks for your time and efforts. 👍👍👍👍

    I don't see why pulling it off to dry wouldn't work. I always leave mine on the stalk to dry. Grandaddy would sometimes cover a plant with a big bright colored onion sack if the critters were damaging his seed plants. You might have a coon family involved in the vandalism too. I don't think an onion sack would help keep a coon away.

    • @Jtwes

    My wife pulls off the corn, removes the husk and lays it out on a huge wood framed wire rack that sits on two sawhorses, she will move the rack out in the sun each day , when dry she stores them in plastic food crates so the air can get around them, works well. Thanks for your great videos and channel, I have learned a lot.

    That cultivator does a good job. I think you would be fine to pull your seed corn, if it's mature. I'd shuck it back and hang it,or put it where it gets good air circulation. Really enjoy the videos.

    Corn needs to have what we call the dirt ring on the kernal for it to germinate. You should be able to find a picture of the dirt ring... what it looks like. You can pick it and let it dry for sure.

    If the corn is mature (hard) and the shucks are starting to change color/dry, they yes, you can pull the corn and put it in the dry where it will get a little air to finish curing. When you get ready to plant, stick it in the fridge for a few days. The cold helps germination.

    I may have missed your reasoning in another video but couldn't you straddle the okra and put the hand cultivator on the left side of the tractor? then you could makes two passes on the row and not have to drive over the row beside the okra

    I don't know why anybody would waste gas on okra lol just kidding 😅. But on a more serious note I'm think it was on working horses with Jim he was plowing he said you could lean the plow one way are a other to make it turn left are right. It might have been someone else working horses are mules I was watching might be something to ask someone who knows about working horare mules keep up the great videos.

    Hello Joey. I also think the old cultivator worked well, just a lot of effort. Everything is relative so what works now for you may well be too much for your dad, or Sammy. Sorry to state the obvious, just trying to prevent a “run” on horse drawn equipment. Lol. The Amish have that sorted out. Your bog weights certainly make the disc practical, just too heavy for me to manage. Not sure what they ended up weighing, but do you think a 20 gal water tank per side would be enough weight? That way I could manage the installation, fill, work it and then dump as needed. Always got to make sure they are completely full, no sloshing around.

    • @Jtwes
      @Jtwes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that would be plenty. What I have is really to much but I fixed on that in my next video.

  • @finniganshomestead2956
    @finniganshomestead2956 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    After you added those weights it transforms that harrow into a beast. Its all the tractor wants as well by the looks of it. I'll be doing my second cutting of the corn and bean rows tomorrow. I do't like to spray chemicals so I end up tilling more than most folks to keep the weeds down I guess.

    Eph 2:8-9 KJV 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
    That is my cornerstone scripture that I stand on so that I know I am saved.
    Rom 12:3 KJV For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
    True beauty of this is that God Himself actually gave to me The Measure of Faith so that I am able to believe.
