Ah vintage Depeche at its best! I always love Alan's 'I don't wanna play anymore'. I miss his playing and background vocal harmonizing. Alan, if you read these comments, you can clearly see that us, your fans, truely appreciate and acknowledge your talent, if that matters now.
Yeah, that Wilder solo at the end of the song is out of control, not only does he come up with that on the fly but he manages to stay in time with that off the wall 80sness
It saddens me when kids who listened to DM since Ultra say "Alan was just a musician". This outro is so cool that most musicians wouldn't think of it for hours in studio.
I agree from 3:42 this live version is amazing...Wilder such a talent, the lyrics from Gore brilliant and Dave performing it to perfection... Great to hear the appreciative Hamburg crowd at the end...wish I was there...and the Rose Bowl....my first was Violator in Birmingham...
@@L0vac who even says that? If you cant acknowledge the superiority of Alan Wilder you are not a true fan. He was the best and the soul of the band in my opinion
@@Calendula-my5ll I agree, but many young fans that listen to mostly newer DM think he wasn't that important and it's just not fair. Heard it during Spirit tour and was surprised
Alan dindnt play on a broken frame, or so they say.... Who played that? Martin no fletch no way. But again.... Dave said "we payed alan like 5o pounds for two years"... Dave doesnt remember a thing
@@delerium101 I saw the documentary on the making of A Broken Frame and I was shocked to hear Dave say that because it's rubbish. Alan was paid 100 £ a week for 10 months, then he became a proper band member in October of '82. The question remains, who played the keyboard solo on Leave in Silence as Alan was not involved in the recording of A Broken Frame?
I think some people don't and can't realize the force of the atmosphere here this live is clearly special, strange, bewitching and the emotions are painful because we won't, no, we won't ever return to this era it makes me so sad and depressed...
Not to mention that real memories are being replaced with digital storage, our way of thinking is changing for worse because of modern way of leaving where we relay on google etc. instead of our own knowledge (even for simple stuff). That's why all you can see today are smartphones filming and hardly anyone let go and feel that special vibe at concert. Nobody creates memories that will last and enrich them. It's just a low quality video on their phone that they'll hardly ever play until it gets deleted by accident. 80's are the best, it was a perfect balance of everything. It was normal to be emotional and have empathy instead of getting offended all the time like spoiled brats that we are today. That's why when people talk about modern music I look at them, I get up and LEAVE IN SILENCE. p.s. even tho I have masters degree in IT, I think that technology is ruining our lives more than it benefits it. It's good (medicine), but not at current extent. We are past best years of humanity and we'll destroy ourselves instead of living in dystopia/utopia in the future.
there is aword for it: Nostalgia....and yes, you finally get the idea that you too are getting old and are on the path to death. As for Lovac...today's fast technology does kill something in our human interaction, but it doesn't destroy humanity. For that, you must squarely put the finger on radical islamism.
Omg what can i say ....my favorite song with brilliant vocals from dave gahan ....gives me shivers every time ...and those dance moves at the end !!!! Blows my mind ,body and soul every time i watch it ! Dave ..depeche mode i lovvvvvvve yuuuuuuuu!!!!!❤❤
I love techno and electronic music in general. I think Depeche Mode are flagship band for all us electronic music lovers. I don't like all of their tracks. However, 1981-1990 is for me THE golden era of DM. Four men , synth and melodies, lyrics and electronic sounds. Sometimes I miss this kind of sound.
The golden era...yeh I agree but I would have to extend to 1993 to include SOFAD....after that no thanks. I've tried to get into their stuff from Ultra onwards but can't ...much as I love all there albums up until SOFAD I always come back to 101 and play iconic tracks like NLMDA, Behind the Wheel , Strangelove and the hugely underrated Nothing...and then there's Sacred, Stripped...
I agree, and it's always good to see others who are of a similar opinion. What I find weird is that DM's popularity seems to have exploded _after_ what we see as the golden era. I was too young to be aware of them in the 80s, but they seemed underrated and overlooked precisely when they were putting out their best albums and, IMO, were at their best as a live band. (I admit I'm biased in favour of the electronic stuff and the lineup with Alan.) Yet they seem to have really taken off around the time of 'Ultra' - and become massive in the 21st century. All I can think is that becoming more like a 'conventional' rock band helped broaden their appeal and kept them relevant. Still, it's depressing that every tour from the 21st century is available in high quality yet the classic stuff is mostly incomplete or only available as rough-quality bootlegs.
it's funny how this band was made fun of in their hometown and in the US of being weird and not mainstream when they started... HAH! look at them in the late 80s until now still drawing the biggest crowd on record. They just took off when Wilder officially joined the band... too bad he couldn't have stayed.
DM ❤️se convirtió en mis favoritos a pesar que esas fechas no nacía, pero cada vez que escucho más canciones para mí nuevas, descubro joyas, eres grande DM❤️
Always loved this song, and the live version really does it justice. In many ways this is the start of the "definitive" Depeche Mode, their first moody and atmospheric single in contrast to the previous more poppy Vince and early Martin songs.

DM without Alan Wilder is like a bicycle with one wheel. I'm saying this as a diehard DM fan but I definitely feel that their output post Wilder is different, I wouldn't go as far as too not good but different. His musicianship is sadly missed.
yeah, really. the first thing they did without him was to release the best album of the 90's, including the best song of all time. to think that he would make difference now is to say that Germany would win the World Cup if they bring back Mathäus and Schweinsteiger to the team.

Best "Leave in silence" ever. Dave's voice gives me a goosebumps while singing "I can't stand this emotional violence". Martin as well.
I prefer this version to the original now for the reasons you said. Plus I LOVE Alan singing "leave in silence........." 😁
