She just wants to be the number one because she wants to. Remember Alya is a perfectionist person, and she forced to be the better version of herself. Furthermore, she is honest, naive, and a straight person. No wonder that she attracts people like Masachika or Taniyama. She has charisma. By the way, Yuki made a good scheme and fooled Alya all the time. Alya is a strong rival, but she is no good for taking care of schemes. But well, Masachika is for that. He is going to cover the Alya's weakness and we'll watch that in the next episode. PD: There are some scenes that anime cut off, but a funny moment was when Ayano asked Masachika to answer if he prefers Ayano or Alya to take care of him, and Masachika, due to fever, answers ''I want a harem''. which Alya looks at Masachika as if he was garbage haha. Yea, it's interesting and unique to see a character who is doing something not because of some backstory but just because she wants to do it. The excluded parts seem funny. It's a shame they had to slip it.
We actually find out why his mother reacted that way in the newest volume of the light novel and get her backstory but it's so stupid. The anime actually doesn't cover everything the mother did to masachika and her reason for doing all that is not ok considering she scared him for the rest of his life.
