    WOW! Fantastic job on the conversion & video. We are always humbled when random strangers are genuinely excited about our propane conversions. It is what motivates us to do what we do! 👍 Hit us up if you have any questions. We are here to help! - Hutch Mountain - HutchMountain.com BTW the 1st of your video was hilarious. Pulling your arm off because of a clogged carburetor from bad gasoline can be beneficial… For a free workout program! 🤣

      Hutch does it matter what length hose can be used ? If I attach the unit to a trailer mounted tank it's not long enough to be able to set the unit on the ground . I would like to use a long enough hose to move the unit away from the trailer so the noise at night is lower . Is there a limit on the length of hose that can be used ?

      🆘 HELP US HUTCH!! YOU ARE DESPERATELY NEEDED IN 3 KEY AREAS -->>
      EVERYONE NEEDS TO KNOW YOU EXIST!!
      1. MOBILE / PORTABLE use on fire apparatus (most especially light/heavy rescue and similar vehicles).
      2. COMMUNICATIONS & COMMAND / COMMAND POST VEHICLES.
      3. REMOTE COMMUNICATIONS SITES/TOWERS. (to the small size of the Hondas as well as the lack of remote start and ATS transfer switching and diagnostics, The use would be more limited to using several in parallel as back up if the permanently installed natural gas or diesel standby
      genset fails or if there is no generator installed and personnel will be responding to set temporary power)
      Storing & Carrying gasoline or diesel on a vehicle presents quite a few challenges.
      The same applies to storing gasoline for long periods of time, even with the use of added stabilizers.
      The introduction of inverter based generators by Honda and others (they are pricey, Honda always seems to make the best equipment) allows the use of sensitive electronics and computer/communications equipment out in the field. Now having the ability to utilize propane as a fuel makes it more attractive for use in the emergency services arena.
      I just completed installing one of your kits on a new EU2200i.
      Smooth install, the directions were incredibly easy and it went in like a dream. (This video was very instructional as well)
      Everything works well though have not tried natural gas yet.
      BUT.... YOU ARE DESPA

    Get a large cheapo (HD/Lowes/Harbor Freight) tool box for all the accessories for your gen. I keep the regulator/hose and oil, drain kit, spare spark plugs/fuel filter. Spare socket set and multi-bit screwdriver. This way when you take the gen somewhere you have kit to repair and maintain the gen. ALSO, get an inductive hour meter ($10) to keep track of the time on the gen so you know when you need to change the oil. BTW, I bot a 2200i and installed the Hutch kit back in 2018----so nice to never have to worry about gas going bad. I have 4 propane tanks--just in case. Also, since I primarily use this for emergencies (outages) I have a 10/3 extension cord(50 ft) so the gen is safely away from the house AND the extension cord is heavy enough to properly carry current to my fridge(energy star) and window a/c (energy star)---yes both work with my 2200i, even at peak usage for both.

    I’m not sure if it’s true but I’ve heard carbon can build up on the intake valve from the lack of cleaning effect of gasoline going over it. Simple fix is just occasionally run gas in it which I think would be a good idea anyway just to make sure EVERYTHING is working properly.

    • @CanispaterChristmas

      I think my fuel pump is bad and it's a standby (low use) genny so I don't run gasoline anymore. I'll keep an eye on it though. Thanks!

    if that kit has a flow control adjustment put the generator under full load and close the flow control down till it stumbles down then open till it smooths back up. That will insure no propane is wasted I have a conversion kit for a 6500 watt but adjusted the flow down to about 2000 watts. I get about 16+ hours on a 40lbs tank

      Most excellent! I hoped they actually stocked them at your store and that they weren't just online or something. I try to use them for everything. When I build panels with them I can re-open wire bundles for troubleshooting or to add more wires, otherwise as soon as you tighten regular ones SOMETHING makes you have to open them e.g. cut them again. (Probably some Murphy's correlation).

      This is a good option if you don't use the generator too much since propane is less energy-dense than gasoline. I rarely use mine and had trouble with the gas going bad so it's perfect for my current needs. Others have commented about gasoline vs propane and while not incorrect, they didn't take usage patterns into account. If you want an all-inclusive kit, this is awesome! If you 're more of a DIY'er, you may be able to source things more cheaply, but you'll spend more time doing it. I'm very happy with it. 😂

    Great Video. Thanks. I noticed you drilled 2 holes. One seemed to be use to hook up an electrical pair of wire. Could you explain what that was for? Thanks. I saw another video showing this install using the same Hutch Mountain kit and did not see this step.

    • @CanispaterChristmas
      @CanispaterChristmas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! It's a kill switch. It may have been added to the kit later. Really more of a "nice to have" since you can just turn off the fuel to kill the genny, but the switch is more immediate.

    • @eegg6954
      @eegg6954 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CanispaterChristmas When the kill switch is added, the harness modifies the factory on-off switch so it only cuts off the gasoline. This way the factory switch cuts off gasoline when you are using propane. To shut when running on gasoline, you can use the factory switch to cut the gas flow and permit the carburetor bowl to run dry, so you're not leaving gas in it to gum up.

    What is the part number and model of the small regular? Where does the jet that was in the o-ring container get installed?

    • @CanispaterChristmas
      @CanispaterChristmas  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure. It was a complete kit. You might want to get in touch with Clayton for specifics on the kit/parts. Nice guy. Very helpful.

    • @smokinjoe7420
      @smokinjoe7420 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The jet in the o-ring container would replace the existing jet in the carburetor, if u want to run it on natural gas. The jets for propane vs natural gas have a different orifice size, hence the need to change the jet when switching from propane to natural gas, or vice versa.

    Some logical thinking RE: Propane. Honda makes propane engines. Honda makes gasoline engines. Honda makes bi- and tri-fuel engines. Many times, they're different options for the same engine. Do you think they use different materials for all three, costing more in machining and development? No. At least not in modern versions of these engines. The fuel ports and mix controls are the only differences, and as you can see, they're interchangeable in many cases. Saying it will damage a modern engine to convert it to propane is like saying adding an electric starter will damage it.

    • @CanispaterChristmas
      @CanispaterChristmas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Propane burns cleaner than gasoline, but is less energy dense so 🤷‍♂️

    • @rickmanley767
      @rickmanley767 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has everything to do with E.P.A. regs and certain states won’t allow it to sell there unless it is compliant. Honda probably doesn’t want to manufacture a unit that can’t be sold in California and others. It’s a ridiculous mess.

    I noticed at 14:48 in the video you have what looks like the original on off sticker on the unit but you show that you took it off and added another one the company provided. Is that because your generator doesn't have the new on off switch that was add because of the recall ? Because you don't have the new 3 way switch that allows you to turn off just the gasoline flow to the carb you had to add the on off switch to the top of the unit to allow you to switch off the gasoline pump before you can turn on the propane . The sticker you added and then removed should only be added if you have the new 3 way switch installed . Why didn't you say anything about this in the video ? If you unit is part of the recall you should not just add the on off switch at the top . You have to get the new 3 way switch installed and use the included sticker you had on but later removed. As you can read on the new sticker when you turn the switch all most all the way off they added gasoline off area. When you turn the switch to that area it does what the switch you added at the top does. All the units that don't have the 3 way switch have been recalled and should be replaced because they can leak fuel. Here is a link to the recalled units.powerequipment.honda.com/support/recalls-and-updates .

    • @CanispaterChristmas
      @CanispaterChristmas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The spark-interrupt switch was included in the propane conversion kit. You can use it to turn off the generator or just switch off the propane (probably a better idea anyway) and let it run out of fuel. The generator runs with the fuel switch in the off position while running on propane.

    • @eegg6954

    Thank you very much for the video. Is this immediately ready to disconnect from propane and hook to natural gas? Also, what is life expectancy of the generator with natural gas compared to gasoline or propane?

    • @CanispaterChristmas
      @CanispaterChristmas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These are probably better answered by Clay at Hutch Mountain, but I think so and no clue. I'm not aware of any special connection for natural gas so it would be as simple as shutting the generator down, disconnecting the propane, connecting the natural gas and starting the generator. Also, not sure if there is a life expectancy difference just for different fuels.

      What I have read and heard from people who converted gasoline engines to propane or NG is that the oil will not get dirty. One friend says his oil stays looking new now (in his truck on propane). Everything I have read says the engine will last longer.

    any difference in performance? also, what's the run time on a full 20 lbs tank? thank you!

    • @CanispaterChristmas
      @CanispaterChristmas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Performance should be close enough unless you are running it hard. Propane has less energy than gas so 5 gal of gas will go farther than 5 gal of propane. Run time is based on the load so running it at the max will be less time than running it at 50% of the rated output. I've not run any tests to determine runtime. The biggest difference is not having to worry about the gasoline evaporating and gumming up everything, plus I can cook hamburgers with the same fuel. :) I also like that I can still use gasoline if I run out of propane. Hutch Mountain may have more information than I do. Plus they are super nice and eager to help.

    The thread rap that you use I believe should be Yellow in color not white. They sell the yellow Propane< Natural Gas tape in the plumbing area at Lowes etc. Not sure what the difference is but, I'm wondering why Hutch Mountain didn't include it with the kit.
    As long as you are trying to run an appliance by using the generator you should be ok. Running it through an electric panel would cause a electric back flow into your electric grid. ( NOT GOOD)
    I would look into getting a bigger propane tank. They used to sell a 100gallon tank at Lowes. Usually kept outside with riding mowers out front.
    Remember once someone finds out ya got something they need that small generator might grow some walking legs in the middle of the night. Look into getting something call (ground anchor) (model# is50017)
    Keep up the good work < Lower Alabama said that>

      @CanispaterChristmas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! These were pre-wrapped so I'll let Hutch chime in if he's watching. The genny will not be grid-tied so no issues there. I have a 40lb tank, but again, this is just for emergencies (we have excellent power from the city otherwise) so the propane will be used for outdoor heating and grilling normally. As for security, I have dogs. lol!
