Allo Ralphy, and lovely to meet your moggy...! I just bought this bottle yesterday (not opened yet) and your illuminations were rather interesting and surprising!! The box says it was in the port casks for twelve months, but you may really be onto something with the wetness. Thanks for your "caveat," and I look forward to my own experiences with it. Slainte mhath!!
Thank you Ralfy.... I watched all your videos for past 14 years.. you taught me so much about scotch and other spirits... I can't believe your 1000 review is coming 😳... so this is my personal malt mention for you: Mega Millennium MitchellomaltManiacs... please continue what you are doing so well... cheers 🍻 👏
Hi Ralfy. Re your comments about the finish being less than 3 months, it was finished for 12 months in 1st fill white port hogsheads then married in refill bourbon barrels for 4 weeks prior to bottling.
visited scotland for the first time this summer volunteering on the west coast with my brother. On a weekend off we took the bus down to campbeltown and at random chose glen scotia to visit, then somewhat at random (helped that it was less than £100) bought this bottle. I don’t know much about whiskey, but having come up on four roses and elijah craig, it was something special sitting around a fire drinking this stuff out of mugs. We finished the bottle in about ten days, and I don’t know if I’ll enjoy a whiskey that much again :)
I bet there'd be a long queue to be your Dr.Watson Ralfy and sleuth along with you! An interesting insight into the use of white port cask treatment of Glen Scotia and the effects on the whisky.
Hello Ralfy Mitchell, haven't tasted yet (and I am not a particular fan of Glen Scotia) but white Port can be strangely and marvellously addictive, and that (open) bottle will surely be at its utmost by Xmas
It was a bit weird at the beginning. Found it lovely at half of the bottle mark and below (yep almost out), nice quality woodines came out that was not there before.
I returned recently from Porto, so drank quite a bit white port. The white port can be lovely, especially if it's aged. Hope to be able to try a dram of this one day.
Had the 8 yr peated last year and that was a belter. I like the term experimental, but Glen Moray use the term Warehouse but people don't look beyond whats on a super market shelf and are missing some great Malts . Are Cav and Kal going to be on the big show or a 3 legged man 🙂
Still really hoping for review 1000 that Ralfy brings out one of his most prized/rarest whiskies. I don’t mind if it’s something that’s exorbitantly expensive or basically unobtainable, I want to see him talk about something that is truly dear to his heart and only reserved for the most special of occasions.
Love Glen Scotia. Probably my favorite distillery. I had high hopes for this one as the Tawny Port was magical IMO but reviews on this seem to be mixed at best. Still need to try it as when I ordered this one I got sent the 2022 festival so still gota hunt this one down.
It's what you think of it,not what some other person thinks about it ,and thinks he's an expert on whisky, and is probably one of these people that accepts freebies from Diageo and Pernod Ricard.Ralfy not included,as he's sound as pound,as we would say in Glesga. And he's one of only two people i listen to about whisky.
Very interesting review as always, Ralfy. I have this bottle and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm about 2/3 down the bottle, and I think it really benefits from taking your time with it, and let the oxygen do it's work. Is it as good as the 2022? Not for me, but it's different, and there's nothing wrong with that! Cheers mate, and take care👍
Hey Ralfy, I live in America and I’ve known all sorts of scotch whisky over the years. Once in a while I buy some macallan and highland park, 12s, just because I really love them. I think they’re fantastic despite agreeing with much of your critiquing, philosophically. Anyway I picked up some of both recently and, wouldn’t you know it, 43%!!!! Dropped by to say THANK YOU RALFY for that haha 👍🏻👍🏻🫡
All port wine has to be bottled in Portugal ,the last vintage to bottled in the UK was the 1970 after that all types of port must be bottled in Portugal otherwise you do not get the IVP seal to authenticate the bottle contains real port .
I’m so glad for this review. I’ve had this one on the shelf for ages. I just didn’t like it. It was ok, but there was quite a buzz about it. It did not live up to the hype for me. Glad I’m not completely mad. Cheers ralphy.
Glen Scotia is excellent, but far better at an older age. And in the US, the 15 isn’t much more than this bottle and the Victoriana isn’t that much more either and that’s an excellent bottle.
Although I respect your personal judgement in my eyes this whisky is exceptional good. Maybe it‘s something different, maybe a bit experimental and thus not mainstream. But I love it
I’m waiting for the first whisky with a cola finish. It’s getting silly at this point. Put anything sweet in a barrel a few months, pour it out and then fill it with your whisky and call it a finish these days.
Thouroughly enjoy each of your uploads Ralfy. What by the way is the highest Malt Mark you've ever given a whisky? And to what whisky was the mark awarded?
It's port, not a regular still wine per se. Basically, it's white wine that's had a spirit added before all the sugars are fermented into alcohol. Once the spirit is added and the alcohol climbs above 17% ABV the yeast that causes fermentation can no longer survive so the sweetness remains, which combined with the alcohol level of 19.5% makes for a stronger, richer beverage. This is how most (but not all) port is made.
Glad to see you're still doing well Ralfy! I am wonderig what whisky review 1000 will be like !

Nobody breaks down a special bottling like Ralfy! Well done Sherlock 😊… looking forward to the extras. Kindest regards, S.
Sherlock Mitchell
82 is criminally low, it’s a really, really good bottle. 85 if you’re being stingy, a comfortable 86.
I am personally in love with the stuff. A top fave in my modest collection. But I seem to favor white wine ageing at the moment.
Well done, my dear Sherlock Ralfy.
I realky enjoyed your review, your comments and your experience.
Cheers from a pat-pal in Germany
Definitely in a mood for something different. Resetting the palette and nose. Cheers.

. . . thanks for the information Michael. I will provide a correction to the Patreon subscribers.

I think this is one I would need to taste before I bought it. Going through to Edinburgh in a couple of weeks and hope I can see a bottle in a pub.
Your cat Fluffy has stolen the show again😀😁😎🤩
Looking forward to a review of The Hearach. First offering from Isle of Harris. Got a bottle of Batch 6 in the cupboard, as yet unopened.
Any video with a Fluffy appearance gets an automatic thumbs up!!
Thank you Ralfy for bringing Clives bottle over 👌👍🥃🥳

Recently I had after a long time a dram of GS Double oak.
Was very surprised how solid it was.
Another bottle I can't get... I do love white port though. I would love to try that.

What are your observations on how the white port worked with the 2023 Laphroaig Cairdeas?

Maybe Ralfy will release his own malt on the 1000th episode???

Reviews no more mixed than any other whisky. It has a very high average rating on whiskybase, just a tad behind the Victoriana.

So far this is whisky of the year for me.
It is one of the best things in my modest collection.
Hi Ralfy, be interested on you views on Glenglassaugh Revival. States natural colour but no mention on filtration. I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

Agreed. I'm in love with the stuff.
Whisky season is almost here 🥃 🦃 🎄 🙂
Thanks Ralfy!!
Sounds like an interesting bottle to try. Looked quickly in the U.S., over $300 right now. I'll keep an eye out for a drop in price
recently pop out in eastcoast area for $99
@alfocrown really, where did you see that? If there is reasonable shipping charges, that would peak my interest

Also, and apologies for intruding, but....what will review 1000 be like? Saving a quasi-unicorn Edradour to celebrate the occasion....
getting closer to that magical 1000
Very informative, and interesting ❤❤

Can you do a review on the Ledaig 18 year old please Ralfy. 👍
There's already one on from last year I think

@@deccyboi4218 wow thats a review from 4 yrs back. Id need to purchase from an online market. But i am definitely looking forward to a taste.
19.5% ABV is pretty strong for a wine here in America.
Ach, it’s a winter wine in Europe 😁

Once you've seen it, you can't unsee it anymore 😅 This specific type of cockroach is called "Periplaneta wiskibothia"
It is a mosquito 😊
Glen scotia reitet auf der hype welle von springbank, aber sie sind kein springbank. Sie machen eher durchschnittlichen whisky.
