The common joke is that Daisuke's albums come with a free game but damn, Strive is absolutely off the charts ost-wise. I listen to the character themes on a daily basis lol
Guilty Gear Strive's character themes are all phenomenal, especially at conveying their story to the listener. Out of the Box, Crawl, and Roar of the Spark are some of my favorites
as everyone is saying you gotta listen to the whole album, but if you're gonna listen to another STRIVE song soon it's gotta be Let Me Carve Your Way. Having learned of Millia's past and understood i think it's the most natural progression you could take with listening/reacting to the OST. love your vids! keep being awesome!
This is such a good song. Not only a banger but also a good introduction to the character. If you got a bad feeling about that part about her relationship with Zato then listen to his song, it's genuinely sad
As a longtime Millia player since the first game to now, this song is a long time coming. She’s always had a complicated relationship with her hair in particular, a direct extension of herself and yet the very weapon she used in the life she wants to move on from. All that torment of hating who she was, and what she had done, carried game into game into game, but she finale found solaçe and comfort in the final act of her story and started forgiving herself. And then Strive came out with this as her theme… …couldn’t be more perfect. She accepts her past but has learned to not rely on her love for another but to love herself and find compassion within.
I've appreciated GG from a distance since Xrd R2 but only recently started trying to actually "git gud" at Strive (still a long way to go on that task). I knew the overall lore of the GG world was nuts, to put it very lightly, and I just figured the characters were designed based solely on how cool they would look in action. I play Millia because I enjoy her playstyle but I thought the extent of her backstory was "aloof assassin with magic hair", I had no idea she was conflicted about her past or wanted to leave that life behind, etc. From the outside GG is "that wacky metal-inspired fighting game with great music and weird character designs" but as I peel back the layers I'm realizing there's a lot more to love here than I thought.
I agree with a lot for the comments that Zato’s theme, “Let me carve your way” absolutely needs to be the next in the GG series due to the connections drawn to love the Sun human self.
I am FOAMING AT THE MOUTH. In seriousness, one of my favorite female vocalists. I love this song. The greatest part about all of Guilty Gear's character tracks, is that they all sound like BOSS MUSIC.
Your doing Guilty Gear!? They're so much fun to dissect and get the character from the lyrics, I recommend "Alone Infection", "Mirror of the World" and especially "Let Me Carve Your Way" Zato's theme as its connected to "Subhuman self". all of them have alot to do with the character and I'd love to see you analyze them
Millia is easily my favorite GG character. The constant tension and resentment between her and Venom, her love for Zato clashing with her hatred towards the assassin lifestyle, culminating in her leaving Zato to die at the hands of the shadow demon Eddie, as well as his resurrection which flipped their dynamic, making Zato the one obsessed with Millia, as he was stripped of emotion and only feels anything when he's with her, explained beautifully in Let Me Carve Your Way, and her ultimately returning to the Assassins' guild, and from their ashes founding the GG equivalent of the FBI. You could easily write a whole ass novel on Millia, Zato and Venom.
@@reapercometh That's fair, it's lower on the list for me. There's at least one part from every single song from the album I love so I think all of the songs are great.
Funny enough, Millia's theme is, in a way, actualy the thematic answer to Zato's theme. His theme asks what to do after all that he has been through, and how to face it without recoiling inwards to emptiness. Millia is basically saying "carry on" to him. That's my take on it, though.
The singer, Aisha, is super wholesome and will often visit channels that reuploads the songs for creative purposes and give them support. I wouldn't be surprised if she visits your videos at some point lol
Guilty Gear's head developer also happens to be the composer. Which is something the game has in common with... Undertale. By the way, since nearly everything in GG is a music reference, especially the character names, I'm really looking forward to seeing a musician's reactions to more of the setting.
The entire Guilty Gear soundtrack is PHENOMENAL, doing an excellent job of telling the story with every song. If you do another one in the near future, PLEASE do "Drift"; it's one hell of a ride, especially when you get to the disney-sounding section of the song. Edit: other personal favorites include “Hellfire”, “Requiem”, and (get ready for how long this title is) “Like a Weed, Naturally, as a Matter of Course”
The thing also with her hair, is a sacred beast, a term for some simbiotic beings that attach to a body part(if I remember correctly) so not only the assassin life but the cursed hair attach the subhuman label, guilty gear is a lot about identity labels and being cast away... Guilty gear makes reference to a person in particular that labels himself as being responsible for the existence of gears(magic living weapons) so the themes of identity are there since the beginning
If I gotta recommend any song from Guilty Gear Strive to listen to, you gotta check out Happy Chaos's theme, Drift, if you haven't done so already! I've lost count of how many times I've listened to that song, especially for that one certain part towards the end. It just gives me chills every time and never fails to put a smile on my face. It also helps that I love Happy Chaos's entire character, and he succeeds as a villain. His name is very apt considering he'll cause trouble and create drama purely for shits and giggles, but he also does it to keep things from being stagnant. Also, fitting his chaotic nature, he fights using guns despite being probably the most powerful being in the series (Guilty Gear fans can check me on that).
hc using straight-up guns when he literally brought magic to the world in the first place is probably one of the best and funniest things ive seen come from the game. bro just took out the gat and started dumping lead into his opponents
Love the lyric analysis and thinking time before checking the background of the characters. Really awesome stuff. Love this song too, it's very listen-to-able in the daily rotation.
Loving that you're doing the lore dive with each of these. I would love to see your reaction to Testaments theme - Like a Weed, Naturally as a Matter of Course
YES! I love that you're getting into more guilty gear and strive specifically as I feel in strive each character theme has so much more of their personality or creeds in the lyrics. I really dig how you analyze the characters through their music.
What I love about guilty gear music that not too many other series do is the main tracks in the game are character themes. The song is about the charater at the point in the story, even though the vocals are a bit newer to the series, you can see the change a character goes through with each passing game. In Millias case, she Is trying to figure out how to be a normal person again and how to cope with her life up to that point being a ruthless assassin. Every theme from this game is so fucking good because it emphasizes the story without making it a dialougue box That and there is no song that Daisuke Ishiwatari touches that isn't a banger
I see GG and I click, awesome reaction as always Marco. Best thing about this series is that even if you don't like the character (Sin), they have amazing themes.
I think "Requiem" would be an amazing song for you to listen to. LOTS of storytelling through music about the antagonist I-No, and it's extremely emotional, with one of the best finales I've heard to a song from a video game.
Nothing else I wished to listen to more the night before a test. Guilty gear songs have some of of the most emotional lyrics about self image, coming of age and various other deep issues in life, which is so unexpected when listening to a fighting game OST with incredibly heavy guitars and drums, but is such a welcome addition. Also I love that Marco switches from gently dancing with his hands to the piano and then starts pretend-drumming furiously but with the happiest smile on his face I genuenly do the same for so many songs, especially video game ost because I can connect the song with the game's story and gameplay, however I always thought I was kind of weird for doing this, I'm so glad that other people love these songs as much as I do I've been more and more proud of myself for not abandoning videogames songs because of your videos, thank you as always Marco
I love this song so much. It's cool, and emotionally charged. Millia suffered at the hands of the guild, turned into a killer she never wanted to be. And so she betrayed them. But after a time, she realized the guild was her home, and family. So she decided she was going to take over. Guide them back into the light, people who did dirty work for the sake of the world instead of killers for hire. And she succeeded. Even Slayer was content with her decision. He'd made the guild to kill people whose deaths would benefit the world. But they'd become misguided. Murderers who would kill anyone for pay. So him finally retiring, knowing the guild was in good hands? Such a massive sense of approval of Millia. She's gonna make sure the guild is going to finally become who they were supposed to be.
I love the bit of research you do in these videos. Guilty Gears OST isn't so much great *videogame* music as much as it is a collection of beautiful works of art. These songs aren't just bangers for the characters to fight to, they're anthems for everything the characters stand for and what they represent. Learning about Guilty Gears lore is a lot of what makes me love these tracks. That plus just how masterful they are in terms of instrumentation and delivery of vocals of course. Edit cuz I just thought of a recommendation for a Guilty Gear track to listen to: the newest DLC character Bedman? (Spelled with the question mark lol) and their theme "The Circle". It's an especially unorthodox song with really cool lore and it's instantly become one of my favorite tracks in the game
Marco, keep listening to guilty gear songs! Even some of the instrumental only tracks from older games are a bop like Jack a Dandy or Holy Orders, Be Just or be Dead!
All the songs in strive are about the individual charakters problems and their past trauma, but in the end they STRIVE towards a better future despite this.
From all the GGS songs i've heard this one really resonates with me, and i love it! Sometimes u just need to run wild a little and this song fits perfectly with that.
my favorite part of marco's videos is when the music is such a banger that there's just 0 for like 2-3 minutes because he's just jamming out with the song
I absolutely implore you Marco, check out this soundtrack in full, it is absolutely insane🙏 As for where to go next, I second the recommendations for Let Me Carve Your Way, but Drift is also one I’d put there for being the most beautiful acid trip of a theme that I’d love to see you even attempt to dissect
I subbed for more guilty gear strive please consider it! I listen to these songs constantly and it was awesome to hear you appreciate the lyrics for what they mean for the character while also loving the instrumental. Even looking up the lore to tie it together, can’t wait for more! PS “Let me Carve your Way” is best song
I only picked up the game, but I absolutely loved this song when trying out characters. The other song that really grabbed me was Ramletha's theme, Necessary Discrepancy, because I heard it so much while trying to figure out combos with her as my main. Hearing that theme and learning about her story, it's similar to what you felt from this song. I'm very surprised to see that one isn't one that's been reacted to, but maybe it's not a popular song.
while going throught Strive character's themes, Marco will probably have a field day with "Let Me Carve Your Way", "Requiem" and "Like a Weed, Naturally, as a Matter of Course"
GGS has some of the best character backgrounds or motivations delivered through music. Rock Parade and Hellfire are two of my favourites from the game.
Never touched guilty gear and I know barely anything about it but I found this song thanks to maxor and I gotta say guilty gear has some seriously fucking good music
In a soundtrack absolutely full of bangers - like no joke, every track in Strive is fantastic - even with plenty of songs added with DLC characters, this is still my favorite song on the soundtrack. That melody is just *so* good. Big recommendation for checking out Drift, a reasonably close second.
I click on your video while working in order to listen to it while its on the second monitor... the song starts and i get the urge to headbang...... At least I am awake now :D
As a lot of people already suggested, Let me Carve Your Way is a good companion song to this one! I also would like to suggest Out of the Box, a less dramatic theme, but still a great one!
Glad to see this on the channel. GG has always been Ishiwatari's passion project; more care has gone into crafting its music, story, art direction and mechanics than many other games. Yet despite how old the franchise is, it feels like it's only started to get wider recognition with Strive. Past time, I say.
alright. if you wanna hear something strange, listen to alone infection, it's fausts theme, and it's incredible, but chaotic as hell! (my favorite song), or, if your looking for something else, ZATO-1's theme is magical in it's own right, and i think would be more your style
Sigh….. GUILTY GEAR OST IS JUST FREAKING AWESOME, ISNT IT!? And yeah, I love this song so much! Gives me Evanescence vives! KEEP AT IT DUDE!! At least all of STRIVES OST!!
In my opinion, Armor-Clad Faith is the best Strive song. I didn't know much about the lore when I picked up the game but the song informs basically perfectly of Potemkin's character.
Great video as usual. I reccomend Let Me Carve Your Way (Zato's theme) from Strive next. Sorta a companion piece to this song as Zato's story is all about Millia.
Great. Now I have to listen to that song on repeat agan. I already had The Death of God's Will and Order open in separate tabs for days. Oh well, here we go again...

Love your reaction and all detail !
I click on your video while working in order to listen to it while its on the second monitor... the song starts and i get the urge to headbang...... At least I am awake now :D
WAKE UP
As a lot of people already suggested, Let me Carve Your Way is a good companion song to this one! I also would like to suggest Out of the Box, a less dramatic theme, but still a great one!
i hope one day you will do the hidden boss turned playable character...With the one arm, and eye, and the massive plots of land.
Guilty Gear and Killer Instinct just have the best soundtracks when it comes to fighting games!
Every song on the Strive ost is worth a video, hope to see more.
Zato's theme in guilty gear strive is really amazing too
....And I lost my voice again
Subhuman self is the best ost from strive imo even my friends who doesn't game at all fckin loved it compared to other osts.
Baiken's theme next pls. Love me some guilty gear songs
Glad to see this on the channel. GG has always been Ishiwatari's passion project; more care has gone into crafting its music, story, art direction and mechanics than many other games. Yet despite how old the franchise is, it feels like it's only started to get wider recognition with Strive. Past time, I say.
Highly recommend "Talk About You", the Strive story credits theme. It's a bit simple, but it just feels SO good to listen to.
Love the guilty gear strive videos. Would love to see more
Gotta love GG. Everything a banger. Cant choose a fav.
alright. if you wanna hear something strange, listen to alone infection, it's fausts theme, and it's incredible, but chaotic as hell! (my favorite song), or, if your looking for something else, ZATO-1's theme is magical in it's own right, and i think would be more your style
Just did both! Will upload soon
Here for this banger of a video.
If someone ask me what is angrily hopeful means, imma show this song
Great reaction, keep it up!
No matter what this song always gives me chills
Sigh….. GUILTY GEAR OST IS JUST FREAKING AWESOME, ISNT IT!? And yeah, I love this song so much! Gives me Evanescence vives!
KEEP AT IT DUDE!! At least all of STRIVES OST!!
"'Perhaps because of her complex relationship with Zato- her savior, teacher, lover, and enemy'-
Oh, that *is* complicated."
In my opinion, Armor-Clad Faith is the best Strive song. I didn't know much about the lore when I picked up the game but the song informs basically perfectly of Potemkin's character.
Definitely give the entire OST a listen, my favourites are both Faust's and Nagoriyuki's themes.
I cant believe that your doing guilty gear now! I love the channel and I hope you react to all the songs lol. Thats alot to ask for but they are all amazing!
that's the plan!
This and Armor Clad Faith are my two favorite songs from this entire album, but the whole strive soundtrack is good.
