RndStranger, sorry to hear about your cartrige troubles, it is great seeing that you still are doing youtube, and your well presented archival of obscure games. I found you a couple years ago from the Kamiwaza playthrough, I quite damn enjoy your calm and natural presentation, and while I must say that I return to your channel regularly because my interest in Kamiwaza was piqued by your best in all of english youtube attempt at playing through it, and I am curious about the fate of that series, I will still definetly enjoy the other videos which equally deserve a watch.
oh the poor exerion cart... also your MS paint cutscenes are great, haha. Don't think I've played a ton of this one maybe firing up a random FC ROM or off a pirate system or something... but seems neat for games of the era in the vein of galaga/galaxian or one of those single screen shooters.
I love Exerion; it's a neat take on a 3D fixed shoot em up. I've even owned the arcade PCB at one point. The FC version also sold well enough in Japan that there are tons of copies out in the wild to pick up. Not everyone has to like everything, but I'm pretty sure there's a fair deal of people who dig Exerion in Japan.
I was first put off by this game when I first tried it on a bootleg multicart. I gave it a chance and I actually do enjoy it for what it is: an old school Galaxian-like shooter. I think its decent enough but makes sense it didn't make a splash.
Tbh, it looks like the game would be less dizzying and more fun if they got rid of that "innovative for its time" "" 3d"" background and its scrolling. The background greatly exaggerates side to side movement when as far as the enemy behavior is concerned, the game is actually just a single screen shooter.

I been enjoying this series so much. The part of the $2 dollars make me laugh
I play my first Jalaco Game Exerion on famicom when I was a 8 year old child since 2009

3:08 kinda neat what you can do with just solid tile graphics to make a title screen
