Erykah is heavily influenced by Chaka. She definitely hit the high notes with the right clarity and brightness. Fantasia brought the funk to the “Tell me something good” song. I loved it! I loved how she put her spin on it! Very entertaining! Lil Mo & LaTocha were pitchy. It was awful. Faith Evans understood the assignment.
Angie Stone has the same timbre and tone as Chaka, just in a lower register, so she pulls it off beautifully. Erykah has the high range which she executes flawlessly. Keke has that gut strength that pushes through effortlessly and without trying to "be" Chaka. Most of these performances were good but those were the standouts for me. We have come out of the era of real singers being appreciated. All these wonderful, gifted entertainers have been replaced by mediocrity. Loved every minute of this video. ❤
