thing about playing different role for me, is whenever im looking at the person in my role and their mistakes (or maybe even not mistakes but just preferences), my brain just hurts.
I started playing adc and stuck with it for years. I've swapped to mid for this whole season and it's been great. Not because adc is weak right now but because there was so many holes in my understanding of the game. learning mid forced me to address them. My game understanding is so much greater and I don't think I would have ever gotten here as an ad because I was stuck in the same habits and cycles. Also I didn't have such a great learning resource :)
3:00 LMAO the triangle wards. I still do this to this day as someone who mained Sup in the last 2~3 seasons but switched to JG so I could have better synergy with my Duo who came back from his military service. 2 mins before drag? Wham bam drop 3 wards in a triangle esque formation in the river and recall to have wards for when they get swept. I call it the bermuda triangle of wards with my homies.
My friend switched away from toplane because he'd spent so many years on autopilot in toplane. He only liked one champion in the toplane (multimillion Riven otp in silver) but he didn't like the basic macro patterns necessary for effective toplane. He was also struggling to play mindfully in toplane instead of autopiloting, so he switched to adc to start from scratch. He was a lot worse to begin with, but he spent 4 months finding champions he likes. He was able to play mindfully from the start with a focus on developing good habits from scratch, and is now 4 divisions above where he peaked as a Riven OTP and still improving.
Hey that was some really good input for me. I main jungle for 8 years now and I feel like my skill level is stagnant. Since I never learned how to trade properly I really want to learn a solo lane role. I often times catch myself overstepping in the late game because 80% of the game I have incorporated to outnumber the enemies and with that not care about my own health pool.
For adc, the best secondary is support. Because if you want to be a good adc, u have to get good understanding about support role. Plus if you playing support secondary, you just naturally know what your adc needs most of the time, have good knowledge of waves etc. I tried top and mid too. I had success on mid, but not on top.
I started as jungle and my coach had me start learning mid-lane and its improved my overall gameplay dramatically. I'm much better at thinking about matchups and way better at pathing appropriately for ganks and laners based on the wave setup and the gank potential. P.S. I would love to see Curtis get jungle coached by nathan! Also, I'd argue that ADC players have the worst macro.
I try and switch roles every 2 seasons, i always take my "main role" as support because for me personally i think i am pretty good in that, but i do play my off roles (like jungle, toplane, adc) as my real "main" pick just to get better
Maybe not play other roles in ranked for the average player but good to know all the lanes kind of. I switched from mid to top beceause i didnt really like mid champs that much. And im a real fan of tanks and bruisers.

Doublelift swapped from support to ADC. He was a blitzcrank beast.
Jungel is the easiest to pick up and do average on but it is the hardest role to master at the highest level.
