Another great lesson! Your emphasis on practice is spot one. I practice everyday. My progress is slow, but as Jens Kruger says, be kind to yourself, this is hard.
What I appreciate most about your approach is that you don't overfeed us. One of my biggest stumbling blocks in learning is when someone shows a cool backup roll, and I think "that's cool! I want to learn that", and then they show a second intermediate version in the same vid, and I think "well, that one sounds better, I'll learn that instead" and then they play the expert version and I'm like, "forget the first two! I want to play like that!" This video style of one type of roll per video elliminates that problem. Become a pro with the basics, then transfer the skills to the next level in the next video of the series. It works.
Great stuff! I've been taking lessons for a while and have learned a lot of lead parts, but have been at a loss for what to do when it's not my turn to lead. Never felt like I could play a whole song. Your videos on backup are just what I need. Thank you!
I wish someone had explained it to me like this when I started. It makes so much more sense than just playing whatever is written down without knowing the fundamentals. Keep up the great work, Eli.
ah... on 1:37 the first note is not with the thumb, it got me confused then I slow down the video and notes that you used your index finger there :) Btw thanks Eli your videos are great, they really helped me to improve my rolls on the banjo, thanks.
If only I had this stuff spelled out for me when I started learning only a few years ago. There has definitely been a resurgence in banjo teaching recently
I was looking at chords for cripple creek so I could play back up for cripple creek but I noticed it looked like there were chords that took up half measures. What would you suggest to do?
HINT! I stopped (paused) after each new Tab and practiced it till I could do it with my eyes closed....this will be at least a week or two of practice..DAILY!

These videos are so encouraging and helpful! Thank you!
You are a great teacher

Love your style
Thanks for this! Very helpful!
Very helpful practice lessons. I needed this!
Eli, this rolling backup series is well done and works terrific for my learning style. Thanks!
Another amazing video. I’m hoping these videos keep getting more and more technical
Good stuff.
Thanks.
In a future video I'd love to see this topic explored for 6/8 time.
I'm glad your making a series, this concept has always stumped me
Thanks!

Great Work Eli, thanks mate
Thanks Frank!
It’s time to co-opt a holiday standard to read, “it’s beginning to sound a lot like Bluegrass”. Okay, I’ll just go and practice. :)

Plant looks tortured.

Tony T said trying new stuff on stage that doesn't have sufficient muscle memory - EPIC FAIL!
Excuse me but maby you could talk that much, would be better to handle for me.
